Jurss Posted October 9, 2023 Author Posted October 9, 2023 FYI - dedicated topic will follow, when I will do final touches and will be able to make good pictures Quote
Jurss Posted November 8, 2023 Author Posted November 8, 2023 Thinking about TC26 started to reinvent wheel :) Don't know yet, if it will turn in contest entry. But this was some quick idea, POC, which I could use. Jurss Posted December 30, 2023 Author Posted December 30, 2023 Some idea for TC26 this would be steered track section then would come non steered, over which could be some tipping bed That steering section has issues, mainly with that drive. It would need some reduction before track drive gear/wheel. Also geometry is not the best. It is under some stress. Most probably won't have time to solve that :( Quote
pleegwat Posted December 30, 2023 Posted December 30, 2023 If there are multiple track sections, I presume that turntable is not going to connect to a freely rotating superstructure. Does the drive need to go through the turntable at all? Quote
Jurss Posted December 30, 2023 Author Posted December 30, 2023 Idea really was to turn front track section. I think, I have seen it on some soviet crap. Quote
Jurss Posted January 26, 2024 Author Posted January 26, 2024 There is long time idea in my mind about smaller GT3RS . Main stopper is smaller engine. Some idea But it is just 1 stud shorter. Some option could be, if there would have been 5L bar. Maybe there is something else? Also was thinking to use as piston/rod this but I don't have them. Then everything could be set narrower on this Quote
Thirdwigg Posted January 26, 2024 Posted January 26, 2024 Sorry @Jurss, I should have looked at this thread first. This is similar to the first idea I had as well. I wonder if it might work better with this part. This way you are not constrained my bar length. This issue with this design is still the size. You still need 8 (functionally 9) modules of width, which is a lot of space in a 15 wide car. I secretly I want the option to work for a WRX as well, so steering space will be needed. Quote

But still, width then is still an issue. There should be some few wrenches in my sons pile of lego, but could not find any. With those it could be possible to get narrower width. Yes, it would look strange, but main engine principle could be covered, Quote

Yes, it would look strange, but main engine principle could be covered, I'd be quite interested to see how it would work with those wrenches! I know I have one, but it might be in the bin of minifigure parts at my parent's house, so I'm not sure if I'm able to experiment with it right now Quote

The handle is a little short considering the stroke length, so it may bind in the connector as it cycles. Quote

Divitis Posted January 27, 2024 Posted January 27, 2024 Great minds think alike! I just got a bag of these to use as Engine connecting rods in a mid scale (9 studs long) V12. I'll keep you posted on the progress. Meanwhile, if you need me to experiment with the part on your behalf, just let me know what you wosh to know. :) Quote

Divitis Posted January 28, 2024 Posted January 28, 2024 @Jurss This works smoothly. And also allows for a piston of sort to be attached (note the round 1x1 plate) However, I cannot think of a way to have the left and right side work together without offsetting them 1/2 stud. Ideas? PS: I'm Italian. Quote
Jurss Posted January 28, 2024 Author Posted January 28, 2024 31 minutes ago, Divitis said: without offsetting them 1/2 stud. Ideas? Maybe it would work even without offset, as there is pretty big play? Especially, if they were really on opposite sides. Making that offset could ruin compacteness lenhgtwise. 32 minutes ago, Divitis said: I'm Italian. OK, but it would be also pretty good latvian username. Quote
Divitis Posted January 28, 2024 Posted January 28, 2024 There isn't enough play unfortunately. However, your comment made me think, what if I added some? And this worked - replacing the axle with a 2L bar. But this way, all rods would go up and down at the same time, which isn't realistic. So I introduced a flex bar and it looks very promising. It can probably only be driven by one side but that shouldn't be an issue for a fake engine anyway. Also, a 'flower' 1x1 round tile fits perfectly on top of the wrenches/rods. It simulates cylinders nicely. I'll work on proper bracing and add the other wrenches. Then should probably open up a thread to share the technique with everyone. Quote

In some flat layout, it would work as expected. 13 hours ago, Divitis said: Then should probably open up a thread to share the technique with everyone. Yes, that would be proper way, to continue with this. Quote
pow Posted January 30, 2024 Posted January 30, 2024 This piston configuration is perfect to do VW's VR6 Engine. It's an inline V6. As there is a good article on wikipedia i think it's the best to leave out the description on how it works and looks and just add a link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VR6_engine Quote
