I agree.....that is a lot of tan 2x2 tiles......I can't wait to see this one progress.....Brick On 'LegoSjaak' !

some dark tan 2x2 tiles arrived this morning... :sweet:

That is a lot of tan 2x2s! This will look like a really cool plaza when it's finished, can't wait to see it!

i made a design in Excel and printed it on paper.. but i'm stil curious about the final result too!

Looks great! However, I would give the tree some space to breathe around its trunk, not let the pavement touch the tree.

Thanks Alois! I could put some tan 1x2 grille pieces around the tree. I planned 1x2 tan tiles..... I'm considering your idea!

Excellent work so far! I really like the tree in the center

THis won't be the centre tree.... .....

Might want to get some 2x2 stud jumper tiles. They are extremely helpful in setting your minifigs so that you are not playing "Dominos" with them!

I mean, what's a plaza without lots of (standing) folks!

Looking good!

Looks good so far.

With all those 2x2 tiles, it seems you planned a quite tall city square. However if it is "just" tiles (even when there are some trees) I think it might look a bit empty, but that's just what I think according to your progress.

This is going to be beautiful!

I share your ideas... :sweet:, thanx! Still working on it... next week, more dark tan tiles are coming by postal service.... 16498300098_71123cc036_z.jpg16499751039_ebd0d493f7_z.jpg16684546561_b710d8e40e_z.jpg16498300568_a03c0d48cc_z.jpg

This is a base and after that i planned some street furniture like benches and maybe some kind of large statue or a fountain... till then, the trees and flowers will do...

Thanks LT, a kiosk would also do well. But i will try to make it not too busy.. The squares will be in front of the modular buildings i have.. so it should not draw too much attention. I also thought of some other things as a barrel organ, which is typical Dutch, or a fish stall..... together with a bunch of nice people, it will be a nice neighbourhood...! By the way...the first inspiration was caused by seeing the superb layout of Serpico! But as i wanted to get a different look, i decided to make my own design! Edited by LegoSjaak

This is a brilliant looking project...cant wait to follow it all the way to completion! Some carefully placed items (like what lightningtiger said), such as a kiosk or bandstand etc...will really tie this together with the buildings you are going to add.

I already put a flower cart on it and some other things will follow...but first i want to finish this pretty large project (It is LARGE for me at least..) First i want to see how it looks together with the modular buildings.. Then i have to adapt a street along this square and after that i'll start with additions...!! But as the project is larger, and time is scarce, it will take a while!! But i'm really loving it myself too!

Looking forward to seeing this with buildings.

Yes, can't wait either....i'm happy the whole square is more or less 'modular' as it has 8 baseplates 48 x 48 as a base....

Today the rest of the dark tan 2x2 tiles arrived and also 1x2 dark tan bricks and 1x2 + 1x4 tan tiles.... Almost done now.... 16097210873_8deffae06e_z.jpg And after that, it is time for the minifigs to go populate the square!!

Amazing! I wish I had that many tiles! Are you going to put the buildings right on the edge of the square or are you going to have a street between the square and buildings?

The layout as how it is planned now is like the one in the picture. Maybe i put one brown 16 x 32 Pet Shop half to the right, so the GE comes closer to the square. The whole surface is 192 x 304 studs. 16535808669_a0e681c177_z.jpg

This looks great, the entire layout is going to be enormous, I can't wait to see the finished product.

I can't wait either, but i have limited time... and my son has his birthday, next sunday..so i won't spend any time on the layout...
