Piratedave84 Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 I'd usually expect a BP to be a 1 shot defense, so if I was lassie at the end I serious would have thought about scum killing you, assuming it'd work. On the other hand, if someone survived TWO night kills, I'd assume they were permanently BP. So 3 was just weird. I don't remember the exact math, but at the time, whatever number of vanilla you said had been claimed was the number of stumps plus the number of people who had claimed in thread. So to all of us, it appeared that you'd just said that all the stumps were vanilla (ie no PRs among them) and those of us who had posted claims via codes were all vanilla too. Yeah but most of us had 1 or 2 claims based on PM etc. so our actual total was greater than what was published
Hinckley Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 Yeah but most of us had 1 or 2 claims based on PM etc. so our actual total was greater than what was published But the Scum didn't know that. They knew that everyone who had posted a code publicly was vanilla. So all they had to do was choose from those who hadn't posted codes (and weren't themselves on the Scum team) to hit people with Night Actions. You essentially narrowed down the field for them by 6 players as to who had Night Actions (minus of course the Scum who claimed vanilla publicly).

I know we had some definite discussions on the scumboard about it and listed those who had claimed as vanilla and then ignored them as night targets.
MagPiesRUs Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 Thanks for the great game Walter! I loved the theme and the presentation throughout. I enjoyed the game set-up, the stumps were a lot of fun. My one complaint would be the amount of confusion roles out there (naive cop, miller, framer and janitor), but I understand you needed a way to balance out the stumps. Things probably would have been clearer if we knew there was a janitor. Who came up with the idea that all non-oaks disappear? And why did we all end up believing it, despite the Elder's daily hints that we were completely wrong? Well done Hinckley, and well done to the scum too. You all played great. I'm glad that Foog and I managed to prevent a maple win by acting incredibly scummily. Just as planned. But Hinck killed Foog last night? I would have thought the scum would win too, in that case. They would have fulfilled their objective to outnumber the oaks, after all. Or am I missing something?
Hinckley Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 But Hinck killed Foog last night? I would have thought the scum would win too, in that case. They would have fulfilled their objective to outnumber the oaks, after all. Or am I missing something? I was told I could kill Town and win the whole game or kill Scum and the Oaks would win too. So, I chose to be a dick. I believe it was because I killed the Townie. fhomess was told he had to kill the Serial Killer in order to win. Things get a little muddy when it's down to three players. I don't remember any games here that got so close at the end. Have there been any others?

I tried to clarify that, but it was too late I guess, people were not listening. I was right thoug that the codes were being misused; they proved useful but only later on. At that stage everyone had claimed Vanilla; every single claim was of Vanilla.
Walter Kovacs Posted March 6, 2015 Author Posted March 6, 2015 But I reach my win condition at the START of day 9. Yes but.... I mean... Hold on, let me check my notes. Here it is. Day 8. No Lynch goes into Night Actions. So if Only a Scum gets killed, SK and Town win. That didn't happen. If the Scum kills the Town and SK kills Scum, SK wins outright. If the SK kills Town and Scum targets Town or SK... WTF! I can't even follow my own notes. fhomess is correct. Scum would win at the start of a Day 9. Dammit. Ummm... Crap. Well, in light of the fact that I am a complete idiot who can't read, I have to award the win to the Scum team as well. I had notes for a reason, and didn't double check them. While Hinckley would have won as long as he didn't get lynched, I am sickened by the fact that he doesn't get the solo win he thought he was getting. For that, I apologize profusely. So, a bit belated, but congrats to the Maples, winners of Unrest in the Forest.
Walter Kovacs Posted March 6, 2015 Author Posted March 6, 2015 One thing I've neglected to do is to thank all of the players. The Host only provides the stage, it's the players who bring the game to life. I thought everyone was fairly engaged into the game, and really played well, given your mafia experiences. The newer players made some newbie mistakes, but at least they were trying. And more important, I hope they learned from it, too. There were a lot of funny moments, but this quote is still my favorite: Nope. Simon can't be the Serial Killer.
fhomess Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 Thanks, Walter! As for fun quotes, I told Hinck in private that I was no good at finding SK's. While I started to suspect he might be it when Scuba was killed at night, I wasn't convinced until Day 8. Read the final day of Mafia Mafia. There were 2 scum, 2 town and the SK left. Town somehow managed to get a triple lynch on the non-towns. I liked this quote as well from Day 7. Bob had denied the 2:2:1 possibility despite knowing it was true. That triple lynch was a thing of beauty, and the end of this game felt very much like the end of that one.
mostlytechnic Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 Quote of the game for me was late day 7: If Lassie and Sue are Scum, then I suck at this game. Ha!
mostlytechnic Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 Ah, I'd forgotten Mafia Mafia (it was only my second game and seems like a lifetime ago...) What a crazy game! And yes, parts of this one felt like that for sure (in a good way).
Lady K Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 Belated congratulations to scum maple team. I never really suspected fhomess as scum till the end, great job! There were several funny moments in this game.
Scaevola Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 Congratulations to Hinckley and the Scum: you both played great games. Thanks to Walter for creating and permitting me to participate in such a well-made game. I also very much enjoyed collaborating with the (mostly) Town bloc.
Dragonfire Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 Interesting you bring that up... for kicks, I tried playing a game over on mafiascum, one of their newbie games (9 players, 6 of whom are newish). Man what a different environment! Massive vote throwing around (there's no role-playing to fill the start of the game, so they just start throwing votes at random and see how people react). And there's so much more harsh accusations of scumminess, but also so much defending people that you think are townie. I got lynched day 1 Yeah, it's very different isn't it? I prefer Eurobricks. I've survived and won two games in mafiascum, both newbie games, one as scum and one as town. I tended to get into massive 1v1 arguments with people which lasted the entire game . Once I defended a townie who was one vote away from being lynched on page 2 of the game . Got a lot of heat for that. So, a bit belated, but congrats to the Maples, winners of Unrest in the Forest. Well, that's just rubbing it in I would have preferred a solo SK win. At least Hinckley was aiming for that, instead of choosing Mafia over Town. One thing I've neglected to do is to thank all of the players. The Host only provides the stage, it's the players who bring the game to life. You're welcome. There were a lot of funny moments, but this quote is still my favorite: You're breaking the rules- no quoting private PMs! Ha! It's funny cause it's true but he's not.
Bob Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 Belated congratulations to scum maple team. I never really suspected fhomess as scum till the end, great job! There were several funny moments in this game. You were the only person sounding the call repeatedly this entire game that I was scum and everyone ignored you. I felt so bad using the lame defence that we always suspect each other and we're always wrong. By the end of the day though I just stopped replying since everyone thought I was the serial killer. I was so convinced that TPRU was the serial killer that I nearly suggested that we reach out to him to get a majority lynch against someone like Hinckley or Fugazi, but I don't think I proposed it because I wasn't certain.
Hinckley Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 hile Hinckley would have won as long as he didn't get lynched, I am sickened by the fact that he doesn't get the solo win he thought he was getting. For that, I apologize profusely. So, a bit belated, but congrats to the Maples, winners of Unrest in the Forest. Also, I wouldn't have killed Foog unless I thought I was getting the solo win. Now, I feel dirty. Just to cover all bases, how would I have won alone then? It doesn't actually seem like that was possible. Just clarifying, of course. It was a fun game regardless. I'm really sorry, Town. Stupid Scum...
jimmynick Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 You should have ignored my advice, lynched fhomess and NKed Fugazi.
Hinckley Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 You should have ignored my advice, lynched fhomess and NKed Fugazi. I double checked with Walter to make sure not voting would win me the game, too. Oh well. I suppose it's difficult to keep it all sorted when the game is that exciting. It was pretty intense. We were each PMed scenarios. Here's what mine said: Alright, here’s the deal. There are only three players left. There are two possible combinations: 1 You, one Oak and One Maple. Lynch the Maple, and the Oaks win alongside you. Lynch the Oak, and you win alone. Get lynched and watch the Maples win. 2 You and two Oaks. Even easier. Avoid getting lynched and you join the Oaks as winners.
Hinckley Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 Also, Congratulations to the Scum. You did play a really fantastic game. My thought that I would let the Town win if I knew I couldn't win alone has more to do with the fact that I talked with them throughout the whole game. I probably would've felt guilty realizing how great a game you played...and how Scummy and flaily-weird the Town acted the whole time. Awesome teamwork, Scum.
TheLazyChicken Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 Congrats to the scum team! You all played well, and I need suspected any of you! Except for badboytje88. Also, Congratulations to the Scum. Hey Hinkley, when are you planning to do The Forest 3? (If you are planning to do it)
Lady K Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 You were the only person sounding the call repeatedly this entire game that I was scum and everyone ignored you. I suspected you were scum, but couldn't prove it, up until that post. I then felt you really were the SK, I didn't push because you were playing a great game. Had me fooled, good job!
Hinckley Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 Hey Hinkley, when are you planning to do The Forest 3? (If you are planning to do it) Hinckley. It may be a while. I'm trying to finish up a second degree and then find a job. I then felt you really were the SK, I thought he was too!
Yzalirk Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 Finally you guys can see that I was indeed an Oak. Remember how I was talking all sorts of crazy and having the final laugh before I got lynched? Yeah... I did get that final laugh. Too bad I wasn't a Jester. I hope now you guys get a feel for how I play now but I can't say for sure that I'll play another game. This gets too intense, even for me.
mostlytechnic Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 I felt bad janitoring you (you'd even said in game that you'd be ticked off if you got lynched and then janitored that night!) but we had to. It kept everyone wondering, set up the next day's lynch, and kept people thinking there WASN'T a janitor :)
