As of 10 March 2015 at 5pm Central Time (US) the color palette has stopped working entirely in LDD Extended, both in the tools and in the brickset on the left. Colors are still available in Normal and Mindstorms modes. You can still sample colors in Extended, but other than that you only have Bright Red available to select.

Haven't tried any fixes yet, apart from sampling imported colors. Only a guess, but perhaps it's a hopefully temporary fix to the palette overload problem noted in this tread's topic.

I'm going to make a large "in-model" palette out of 6x6 tiles in every color so I can sample from it and still build. Otherwise I'm at a complete standstill. Anyone that follows me on Mocpages (Justin Davies) knows I'm pretty prolific, so this a like slamming into a brick wall for me.

Glad I'm not the only one having this problem... went to work on a model I was building and discovered I couldn't change the colors in LDD Extended, it only shows #21 "Bright Red"

I really hope this bug gets fixed soon, right now its very un-intuitive to work with by having to switch back and forth to use templates and change the color.... maybe this means we'll get more legacy parts and an actual software update!

I thought I'd stop in to say that LDD has updated in March on more than one occasion, so this is probably related to that. Maybe we'll even see one tomorrow..

Edit: It might be worth mentioning that I just opened LDD and I'm not experiencing this bug. Perhaps it was fixed..?

Edit #2: Now I am.

I have bug too. To me, it seems like a good indicator that someone at TLG is working on the new update. Hopefully, this means the problem will be corrected quickly and the update will arrive sooner rather than later in the month.

This is why backing up your drives is a cool thing to do. Superkalle! Would there be any problem with me uploading the contents of the palettes folder for these fine folk?

Also, there are two ways to force LDD to work offline and stop whatever caused this from re-occuring (for now):

  • Block LDD in your firewall, or
  • Add the line initialiseDesignerURL= to your preferences.ini (yes, that option IS "blank", and it forces LDD to use a non-existent update URL)

Of course you WILL need to revert either of these steps in future, if you ever want any sort of updates again :B

I can confirm that disabling the auto-update feature as described and then copying back in the palette folder fixes the problem.

I've uploaded a zip file of the palette folder that I took from a clean installation on an offline computer so I hope it help you guys out.

ldd.lego.com is down. Is there something going on? ... No, false alarm.

As of today at 5pm Central Time (US) I lost my entire color palette except for Bright Red. I can't access any other color on either the color selection tool or in the menus on the left. I can still sample colors on existing models, and have normal access in Normal and Mindstorms mode. Has anyone else had this issue? I'm running 4.3.8.

I merged your post with this topic. Also, please don't cross-post - I removed your duplicate post in the "bug report" topic. Thanks.

I checked out the lego.com site but no info on a fix. It was interesting to note that the version available to download is 4.3.6 not 4,3,8 which I already had installed. I installed the older version but this didn't fix the problem. The pallet file is still missing and i have no back up.

Recently for a few months, I just opened LDD for checking for an update, wich didnt come yet, so I closed it instantly. Now today, just 2-3 minutes ago, I downloaded the Gauss XL hero, to recolor it for my liking for a fanfic of mine, wich I write for only myself to read. As I wanted to start the recoloring process, I realised that the color palette is gone and only red is available. Is there any official news on the matter? Anyway, where can I see official news about LDD? A blog or a site perhaps?

I've been having the same problem as well, so I went through and recreated the pallet using bricks. Fortunately, I had already used every color in my different models, so it wasn't too hard to find everything. I'm attaching the file down below for people like me who are too lazy to search through their computers to restore it. Just use the Color Picker Tool to select the color you want. Hopefully Lego will fix everything soon, but in the meantime I hope this helps!

The palettes are finally back! My LDD has just downloaded them from LEGO servers.

Do you mean updated via the LEGO server, or that you personally fixed it locally on your computer?

The first. I'm too lazy to fix it myself. I've corrected my previous post.

Can any other confirm the update that fix the problem?

One question: the update that causes the problem brought ad update of the brickset? Are there new bricks and decorations?

I can confirm that it's no longer buggered.

EDIT: I cleared the files from the palettes folder for the hell of it, and LDD just re-downloaded them. The checksums for the downloaded stuff match those of my backups.

Still on 1564.2 :I

Fixed for me too. Unfortunately, still no brick update... but honestly at this point having the software function correctly is good enough.
