March 25, 20159 yr Author Hmmmm... a thermometer of some kind? That is a good guess. To think about it, Ive seen thermometers that look like that on some vehicles but its not a thermometer. A spring? No spring here.

March 26, 20159 yr Author It could possibly be used as a digital counter but a digital clock it is not.
March 27, 20159 yr Author That is a good guess Dr_spock, really good guess. To tell you the truth I don't know if that will work but there is a possibility that it can be a stud finder and I do plan to find out when it is completed. That was one of the devices in my mind when I said this quote below, but to think about it there might be some difficulty for this device in being a stud finder. The device is not really designed for that but It would be interesting to see if it can do that and more. The device is said to have many uses and that means it has many names.
March 28, 20159 yr Author It it some sort of GPS like tracking system? Not at all. is it a proximity sensor? Yes, you could call it that.
March 29, 20159 yr Author It could be a metal detector, I'm not for sure how well it will work but I do know this. That certain kinds of metal it will respond to and other kinds of metals it probably will not. Something about the metal that determines how the sensor will work.
April 5, 20159 yr Author No need to guess anymore. It is time to show you what is it I have made. I've finally completed it. It only took 2 modification to make this build work but overall the majority of the LEGO was not harmed in the build only the 1x1 round plate and the 1x1 round cylinder were required for modification. Other then that this build really was something special when it comes to building techniques involved to build this. Magnetic Pole Detector Here it is this is what I been building since the time I made this topic. It is a magnetic pole detector which is able to determine North pole from South pole on a magnet. What was unique about this build for me was that I mange to build around the 20mmx80mm circuit board on all 6 sides to have a perfect fit for it with the LEGO design. The circuit board length was exactly the same length as a 1x10 plate however the width was in the odd area of LEGO and required some shifting of the stud pattern with this part and this part on top centered the circuit board perfectly. The amazing thing about this build for me is how well everything fit together. From the button to the circuit board and the ability for LEGO to be built around it all. Even thought the build wasn't entirely LEGO. I tried my best to keep it LEGO all the way through. The PF wire came in handy when making the sensor but in the end making the sensor I had to resort to a none LEGO part to complete it a plastic Pen tube. One thing I'm proud to say is that no major modification were needed for this build to work. It only took two simple modification for the most part here they are. Modification 1x1 round plate for the button tact switch 1x1 round cylinder for the tube
April 5, 20159 yr Author Pole detector? Sorry dr_spock. I stop taking answers today when I created my Brickshelf folder of it. You were 33 minutes to late.
April 6, 20159 yr nicely done, I definitely can see how it may be used as a stud finder / metal detector / and a prox. sensor (as guessed before)
April 6, 20159 yr Author Thanks GallardoLU, I have found out that there is one problem in how it can be use as a stud finder, metal detector and a proximity sensor. No matter what, when the button is pressed one of the LED lights will light up and that is not very useful for those purposes. Now to think about it I have used proximity sensors before on a Lego project I made awhile back. Edited April 6, 20159 yr by Boxerlego
April 6, 20159 yr Sorry dr_spock. I stop taking answers today when I created my Brickshelf folder of it. You were 33 minutes to late. Darn, missed it by 33 minutes. That was fun guessing game.
April 7, 20159 yr Author Wow boxerLego, that thing looks like it eats bricks for breakfast! It can eat bricks like there is no tomorrow, I wonder if it can eat a EV3 Brick? Great work, that's a really nice device you've designed. Thanks Tariq j, The only thing I designed was the LEGO around the circuit board and components. The electrical part was actually made from a youtube how to video So I had some instructions. Darn, missed it by 33 minutes. That was fun guessing game. Well at least you guessed the first one Edited April 7, 20159 yr by Boxerlego
