Hi

I don't have the wheel hubs themselves so I cannot make the model in real life but hopefully it should work.

It is a meer 17L in lengh and should have drive, and a little suspention and steering but not loads, it only needs a little bit as there will be 4of these units in the model which amount to more overall steering angle, and the wheel clearance between the mudguard is only around 2L at the most.

I'm just wondering if this setup will work if built in real life, the wishbones can pivot slightly due to how they are attched onto the frame.

The steering rack will probably touch the differenential outer gear but if I reinforce the steering rack it should not wobble as much.

You might need to change the uv/cv joints to get more angle.

Hmm, I doubt this will work in real life...

The attachmentpoints of the A-frames are not braced vertically. In fact they are just held in place by the friction of the 3L axles, that will most likely start to slip.

The gear rack is not braced and can move towards the differential (which can be easily remedied by adding a vertical beam in between the differential and the gear rack)

The pivot point of the CV joint is one stud inward from the steering pivot point. That will limit the angles considerable.

Which does solve the final issue of the balljoints connected to the gear rack hitting the differential when moved sideways.

My estimate is that the angle you can give the wheels by hand pushing through the play between the parts is larger than the angle you can achieve by turning the steering wheel.

I don't know of any other way to mount the wishbones.

edit:

I have added a beam behind the steering rack and have attached the wishbones vertically but now since they canot pivot maybe the steeering arms are too short.

does anybody have any other ideas?

Only other thing I can think of is to have suspention like on the unimog but with small springs.

It has to be 16 or 17L though

Turning axis are different, there will be problems (B difference). A difference also ir problem, because You cant fit it inside needed width. I think, that in this way, with A frames and independent suspension, it is almost impossible.

Problem is not so much in steering, than transmitting power to wheel

Hello!

Unfortunately you can't use the item 6572 together with the differential, and that the axis passed between them.

If you really want to use a leash 6572 you can use it with minor modifications.

11.lxf

Anyway, 92906 together with 32494 can only turn by some 10-15 degrees. So it's not usable for steering axle.

The pivot point of the CV joint is one stud inward from the steering pivot point. That will limit the angles considerable.35.gif

Independent suspension with drive and steering does need quite a lot of width with the available parts.. Have you considered making a live axle instead? They can be made significantly narrower..

The proposed idea here with the small A-arms doesn't look very practical at all

The problem is how do I have a live axle, there is 4 axles, The chassis and diff frames hold the outriggers so if the diff frames move, the outrigggers will too.

The set i'm modding is the technic 8258.

I made a mockup hub that positions the ball joints practically in the same place as the real wheel hub, the steering works fine, It has around 4 mm of steer which is fine as it is a big lorry.

It is still using the small A frames but I can reinforce them since they dont need to hinge for the suspention. Drive still works fine and I dont have to mess with pesky UV joints.
