Bob De Quatre Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 The Caribbean galaxy is a nice place to live. Each planetary system is protected by battalions of the imperial armada under the command of the Governor. Well it would be a nice place to live, if it wasn't for the space pirates! These lawless souls only hunger for riches, treasures and rum! The Governor do what he can to protect the civilians of the countless cities like Spaceport Royal to be ransacked by the pirates, while still looking for planets to conquer and the rumored treasures of the galaxy. It is said that near the core of the galaxy, the first inhabitants still live, defending fiercely their lands with their primitive technologies. Their temples are said to be guarded by robo-tiki warriors. About the space pirates theme Space pirates is about treasures, avoiding the Imperials and drinking in taverns... but in space! It's a fun theme that brings fun one-eyed-captains, grim soldiers and angry tiki warriors straight through the centuries to live more exciting adventures with robot parrots and laser saber (Any ressemblance to an existing franchise is purely coincidental). Categories A: Pirate Crew - Design and build a group of six (6) space pirate themed minifigs. Animals and imperial troops are welcome. B: Sailing the river of time - Tag with a fellow member to create two MOCs representing the same set, both in space pirate and classic pirate themes. C: Rum for everybody! - Open to any space pirate entries that don't fit in the other two categories. Rules First rule: have fun! For category A, brickbuilds robots or characters are allowed, just don't oversize them. Example of characters can be seen here. For category B, you must represent the same set in classic pirate theme and space pirate theme. Each set should have a maximum of 700 pieces (so aim at 600). The two sets must be similar in shapes, features and minifigures, only the theme change. The contest will run from 15th March to 30th April, 2015. As long as it's still April 30 somewhere in the world, you can still enter. Entries posted after the deadline will be disqualified. This contest is open to all EB members, even if they joined EB after the contest has begun, with the exception of the Sci-Fi staff, who are not eligible to win prizes. One entry per member and per category. You can enter all categories with different entries, but you'll be eligible to receive only one prize. All entries must be new creations, not posted anywhere else prior to being entered in the contest. You may be asked by a staff member to change your entry if it is too similar to an earlier creation. All entries must be built from real LEGO. No clone brands, no third-party custom parts, no digital entries. Custom sails and rigging are allowed. Non-Lego light sources are allowed as long as you mention it in your entry description. You can use official stickers or custom stickers. All entries must be posted as a new topic in the Sci-Fi forum, the title prefixed by, "[sPC] Cat X - ". (For example, "[sPC] Cat C - The dark grey pearl".) Post pictures no larger than 800x640, but you may link to bigger pictures. You may do a 'full-blown photo edit' with all the text, effects, background compositing, support erasing, and other effects on one picture. All your other pictures may have no editing other than color adjustment or background removal for a solid-color background. For obvious reasons, any photo editing that changes the shape, functionality, or color (not tint or adjustment, but actual color) of a LEGO piece is prohibited. All entries are considered WIPs (Works In Progress) until the deadline passes. Until the deadline has passed, you are allowed to change and improve your MOC. For each categories, EB staff will make a first selection, and then EB members will vote for their favorite entry among that selection. Prizes Prizes for category A: 1st place: #70409 Shipwreck Defense and #70166 Spyclops Infiltration 2nd place: #70409 Shipwreck Defense or #70166 Spyclops Infiltration Minifigures.com also offer one Pumpkin King to the first and second place winners of category A. Prizes for category B (split between each team member): 1st place: #70412 Soldier's Fort and #70168 Drillex Diamond Job 2nd place: #70411 Treasure Island and #70167 Invizable Gold Getaway Prizes for category C: 1st place: #70413 The Brick Bounty or #70165 Ultra Agents Mission HQ 2nd place: #70170 UltraCopter vs. AntiMatter Quote
DuckBricks Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 How exciting! For the first category, could I give the pirates a distinct Blacktron twist, or do they have to be purely original? And by "minifigs," could I do a guy in a mini exo-skeleton abut the same size at Pete Reid's mini robots? Quote
lightningtiger Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Cat. C is for me.......I'm already thinking of a pirate space craft on the hunt for some galactic booty ! Plus I have up until the end of April......hmm. plenty of time after Brick-a-laide I can develop something cool ! Quote
kaiju Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Can LDD be used? According to rule 8 in the announcement, no. Which is unfortunate as I'm currently suffering a distinct lack of physical bricks suitable for this. Quote
jonwil Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Maybe its time to pull out my black seas barracuda hulls, sails and other parts and build the Black Star Barracuda (a MOC I have had in my head for years...) Quote
Capn Frank Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Are "sets" in the classic pirates theme supposed to be posted in this forum or the pirate one? If they're posted in separate forums, there could be a link to each sister thread at the start of each thread. Quote
Ninja Nin Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Wow ! Nice contest Bob. I like your daily character introduction in Flickr, it keeps drawing my attention ! I will see what I can come up with ! Quote

Robots are cool, but not all of your 6 "minifigs" should be brickbuilt robots, you have to use standard minifigs parts. Can LDD be used? No digital entries this time, sorry. The team can post an entry for cat B here, but the classic pirates sets could also be posted in the pirate forum. Wow ! Nice contest Bob. streifen Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Am I correct to assume Category C is a free-for-all build as long as it is space-pirate? Quote
Tariq j Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 (edited) Cool, I'll try and come up with something if I can. EDIT: Can I use minifigure parts form the PotC line? Edited March 15, 2015 by Tariq j Quote

ultron32 Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Just to clarify - in category B, I take it you mean for us to design our own sets, not to make pirate and space pirate versions of an official Lego set? Quote

About category B, you may team with another member, and you have to imagine a 700 max parts set and built it in both space pirates and classic pirates theme. Quote
Captain Nemo Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Awesome contest! I'm already in the piratey mood gearing up for BoBS, so adding a space element to that shouldn't be too challenging! Quote
Im a brickmaster. Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 I've always wanted to make a MOC from robot pirate island! If I get my crap in a bag I just might be able to enter! Quote
Razi Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 (edited) I have a little airship up my sleeve. *laughs evil-ly* also, do they have to be really piratey or just space theives? Edited March 15, 2015 by Razi Quote
Commander Turtle Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Cool theme. Space pirate here checking in, seeking a classic pirate builder for category B! Quote
Lord Tyrus Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 I presume fleshies are allowed, not just yellows...? Great contest, thanks! Quote
wipeoutzone Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Interesting contest.. So no digital entries even if they are photorealistic clean renders? Quote

Robots are cool, but not all of your 6 "minifigs" should be brickbuilt robots, you have to use standard minifigs parts. Ok, sounds good. I plan to include two "giant" figs and the rest should be regular figures. Also, I may just be missing this, but are custom sticker decals I print out for mining torsos alright? Quote
sheo Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Considering a space craft for the third category, what features could define it as related to the space pirates theme? Sorry for the newbie question. Quote
