rodiziorobs Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 I've had an idea for Pirate MOC (steampunk pirates, actually) for quite awhile, and was about to start this week. I suppose I could alter it a bit and have Space Pirates instead, this contest sounds like too much fun to miss out on! Thanks Bob de Quatre! Quote
Hammerstein NWC Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Steampunk pirates are most definitely science fiction!! Quote
rodiziorobs Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 (edited) Steampunk pirates are most definitely science fiction!! Mmmmmmyeaaaaahh...but I think steampunk wouldn't be keeping close to the theme of the contest, since after all it specifically states "Space Pirates", so I think I'll just stick to that. If your ship is airtight so that it can survive without an atmosphere, and it has rockets* to navigate in an airless environment, I think a steam-punk ship would be fine. *Or you could have the ship propelled by steam. SpiderSpaceman Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 (edited) I don't think anybody's entry will rise to the level of that magnificent tiki robo ape dude on the frontpage, but I'm looking forward to being proved wrong Edited March 17, 2015 by SpiderSpaceman Quote
Commander Beltar Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 If we enter Category A, are we allowed edit a fig or create a new one in place of one before the deadline passes? It says in the post that MOCs are considered wips, but what about the minifigs. ~Beltar Quote
Artanis I Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 What's really funny is I bought some clothes online last month, they turned up today (so I'd sorta forgotten what was on them) and one of them says on the front: SPACE PIRATE How cool is that... Or even better than that, a Space Pirate Castle like this one I built many years ago :) Great! I considered mentioning all 3 together but didn't think it could be pulled off properly Quote
Ruse901 Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 For Category A - is it meant to be a "crew" of 6 minifigs that go together cohesively? Or can it be 6 complete individuals from across the Galaxy? Quote
Space Terrapin Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Great contest concept! This one looks like a must-join. Tahnks Bob dQ! Quote
Bob De Quatre Posted March 17, 2015 Author Posted March 17, 2015 Steampunk pirates are most definitely science fiction!! Steampunk isn't space... but if you mix some more futuristic bits in it, it could pass. If we enter Category A, are we allowed edit a fig or create a new one in place of one before the deadline passes? It says in the post that MOCs are considered wips, but what about the minifigs. ~Beltar Of course, you are free to change your entry before the deadline. What's really funny is I bought some clothes online last month, they turned up today (so I'd sorta forgotten what was on them) and one of them says on the front: SPACE PIRATE How cool is that... Great! I considered mentioning all 3 together but didn't think it could be pulled off properly Then you have no excuses for not entering For Category A - is it meant to be a "crew" of 6 minifigs that go together cohesively? Or can it be 6 complete individuals from across the Galaxy? You are free to have a crew or unrelated figs. Quote
Trainmaster247 Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 What do you think of a red and tan futuristic space tavern??? I have no money to buy extra parts. also does anyone have tips for cyborg builds? Hi me again I want to make some decals for my minifigs does anyone know if I can just use double sided tape and paper (would it look OK) any help would be great thanks and what are the recommended measurements (in pixles) Quote

If you drew it yourself-recipe for disaster. As an avid custom decal maker, I started out trying to make decals with double sided tape and paper, and it was awful. Ten to one that your colors won't match up and that they will be to light to show up. I recommend printing on sticker paper or label sheets, but be careful, they can really mess up a printer. Quote
Trainmaster247 Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 OK I came up with another question last night. For category B could we take an old lego pirates set and convert it to space/futuristic? Quote
Bob De Quatre Posted March 18, 2015 Author Posted March 18, 2015 OK I came up with another question last night. For category B could we take an old lego pirates set and convert it to space/futuristic? No, this must be an original creation, not an existing set. Quote
Trainmaster247 Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 Well I finally came up with my design I am either doing a space base for the pirates(need to find my stone pieces) or a red tavern. I already have a crew of 10 and some nervous visitors to the tavern/ prisoners. Quote
telaruhn Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 (edited) I am having a hard time wrapping my head around how to blend space and pirate. It sounds Steampunk in some respects (which is another theme I can't wrap my head around). I mean, something that is flying but has cannons. I think the mix of technology is what throws me. How to make it consistent? But I think I have a hard time thinking futuristic anyway. You aren't the only one. I have a group of space thief characters in mind, but they aren't all that pirate-y in the sense that they use Pirate-themed parts. And I don't want to give my figures a peg leg or swap their gun with a sabre just so they fit the theme... Let me put it this way - I see "space pirates" as characters stealing spacecraft and causing havoc in a planetary sector. I don't think it's strictly related to the LEGO Pirate theme and its motifs, so the fact that this contest wants you to use them throws me off a bit. Edited March 18, 2015 by telaruhn Quote

That's the space where creativity lives. For visual representations in pop culture there are plenty of examples of space pirates e.g. Disney's Treasure Planet or Space Raider corn snacks from the UK. Which reminds me I'm hungry...and only a sci fi themed corn snack will suffice. Quote
Hammerstein NWC Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 steampunk can most definitely be space but your the boss! :) Google steampunk space pirate and see how many hits you get... I'm going to make some steampunk space pirates outside of the competition. Hopefully I can convince some people it is possible! :) My entry is going to be more in keeping with the traditional pirate line :) Quote
Bob De Quatre Posted March 18, 2015 Author Posted March 18, 2015 I'm not saying you can't do something steampunk, just don't forget the space part Quote
Hammerstein NWC Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 My bad! I'm in for sure on category A, possibly the free build too! :) Quote
Trainmaster247 Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 I already made my starter one check it out here (i wanted to go basic and limited parts)---- http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=107148 Quote
e1team Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 (edited) Scratch that! I'm being dumb :/ B is for the sake of a teamwork and C is individual for each. Yay! :) Edited March 19, 2015 by e1team Quote
Trainmaster247 Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 Can we do micromodels or is it strictly minifig scale Quote
Graham Gidman Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 If a builder wins two categories, but can only accept one prize, will he or she be able to choose which prize they want? Quote
