henrysunset Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 I am extremely excited to announce my new book, "The LEGO Architect" will be published later this year by the awesome team at No Starch Press. The book explores popular architectural styles like Neoclassical, Art Deco, Modernism, Brutalism, Postmodernism, and High-tech architecture through LEGO. The cover features an amazing LEGO model of Unité d’Habitation, built by the folks at One World Architecture. For each style, you will see beautiful photos of real buildings, a short explanation of the style, a selection of amazing LEGO buildings created by artists from around the world, and instructions to build small LEGO models based on the unique design elements of each style. You can learn more about the book and see some excerpts at tomalphin.com (You can already pre-order the book at amazon!) Sample page layout showing Brutalism LEGO models which will be featured in the book. Question: What is your favorite fan-made LEGO Architecture Model? We are finishing up the book now, but there is still time to make sure that the very best fan-made LEGO architecture models are featured in the book. Please reply to this thread with links to your favorite LEGO Architecture projects! Sincerely, ---tom P.S. If your model is featured in the book, we will send you a free copy! Quote
XAxles Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 All of HP Monroth's Architecture MOC's. They're not just accurate representations, they look like a real finished set! Of note is his Deir al-Bahari and Taipei 101 builds. But I'd be doing moctown a disservice if I didn't mention him in this discussion. I especially adore his MOC's of the BMW Building (seriously, that one is a runaway winner), Torre Caja (clean, understated yet classy) and One Penn Plaza. Quote
WhiteFang Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Hi, you may find this useful. I recall there is some topics on this feature but I can't locate it on my mobile phone. Those are some awesome architecture mocs which I have ever seen in real life. Quote
Steve309 Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=93746 I put mine up in this thread you created a year ago. For some reason this book is $2 cheaper in Canada. On amazon and chapters indigo. I have preordered it. Thanks for letting us know. Is the august date accurate or just a place holder ? Quote
henrysunset Posted March 16, 2015 Author Posted March 16, 2015 (edited) Great suggestions, keep them coming! @Steve309, We are working hard to make August a reality. I have no idea why it is cheaper in Canada, that seems like a good deal given the current exchange rate! ---tom Edited March 16, 2015 by henrysunset Quote
Jameson42 Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 I've done a few scale buildings. I have a collection of Albums on my Flickr devoted to them: https://www.flickr.com/photos/jameson42/collections/72157651233419076/ If you'd like pictures of any of them for your book, let me know. I'd be glad to take higher quality shots of any of them... I have the camera and equipment to do it but often don't take the time to do so without prodding. -Jameson Quote
henrysunset Posted March 18, 2015 Author Posted March 18, 2015 (edited) All of HP Monroth's Architecture MOC's. They're not just accurate representations, they look like a real finished set! Of note is his Deir al-Bahari and Taipei 101 builds. I had seen a few of HP Monroth's works, but not all of them. Thank you so much for the link. I like the simplicity of his builds and how they are really respectful of the Architecture series style. But I'd be doing moctown a disservice if I didn't mention him in this discussion. I especially adore his MOC's of the BMW Building (seriously, that one is a runaway winner), Torre Caja (clean, understated yet classy) and One Penn Plaza. I love his work and already discovered a few of my own favorites. Great suggestions w/ BMW and Torre Caja in particular. I also find his Kranhaus Süd really clever. I've done a few scale buildings. I have a collection of Albums on my Flickr devoted to them: https://www.flickr.c...57651233419076/ Your model of Thomas P. Hardy house is amazing. The "Large" version is more precise, but I have a fondness for the tiny version as well. Edited March 18, 2015 by henrysunset Quote
BEAVeR Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 Wow, that book looks really amazing! It looks great how you handle both the architecture and the LEGO side of things. One of my favorite architecture builders is *Olly*. His models are a bit big, but I got to see some of them in person, and that really was quite intense. I've built an Architecture MOC myself a while ago. In fact, an Architecture Tower Bridge was the first creation I posted here on Eurobricks. And by some coincidence, it is my first test subject for my new renders, so instead of the picture in that topic, I think this one might be a bit better: link to the picture with a higher resolution. Good luck and congratulations with the release of your book. I hope that it my reach many people, and make them happier and smarter. Quote
henrysunset Posted March 19, 2015 Author Posted March 19, 2015 (edited) @BEAVeR, that is an excellent tiny rendition of the Tower Bridge. Totally befitting the Architecture series, and the rendering quality is excellent. While I'm not including bridges in my book, I did add it to my gothic collection on pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/tomalphin/ Thanks! ---tom Edited March 19, 2015 by henrysunset Quote
