Lind Whisperer Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Every time I have suggested the existence of a majority of LEGO themes sharing a canon universe or universes, based on cameos and crossovers, I have always noticed that strong sentiments commonly arise in quick response to this. Because of this, I created this thread. Now, this thread is not a thread for why you disagree with one or another of the many theories regarding canon, or a thread for you to comment on why you think other people are foolish for linking themes together in their personal canons. This is a thread for you to share your own personal views as to what sort of universe or universes you see your figs occupying - even universes based on personal imaginatings, and not on canon. Hopefully, we'll see enough different views to start a general index of opinions on the subject. (The index will mainly be focused on LEGO Co.-centric canons, completely imagined ones would be hard to categorize for obvious reasons. We may very well create a unique index for completely imagined ones at some point, but separate from the canon-based one.) What sort of universe, or universes, do you, the individual person that is reading this, consider the various themes to occupy or share? Because this could quickly go down-hill, a couple of basic rules(these may be added to, as time goes on): 1. Telling someone else that you think their ideas are stupid or foolish, will not be allowed, and any comments like that will be marked for moderation. This is a thread for free opinion - and comments like those are discouraging to the flow of free. 2. You are allowed to question as to why other people believe in one theory, or another, but in a way that is constructive, not deconstructive. Deconstructive: "You said that A=B. Well, you're completely wrong because C=B, and therefore A can't equal B!" Constructive: "You said that A=B. When you say that, have you take into account that the more recent release of C shows that C=B, and that that might contradict A equaling B?" Let's get started, and have some fun reading what kind of worlds other people have their figs existing in, canon-based, original, etc.! Quote
Tereglith Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 To start things off, here's a couple of theme connections that can be considered 'canon' due to definite shared set elements: -Power Miners and Atlantis. This the most solid connection I can think of, since the Atlantis set 7984 Deep Sea Raider literally contains a Power Miners character. -Space Police III and Classic Space, due to the statue of a classic spaceman in 5974 Galactic Enforcer. Since Classic Space can definitely be considered to coexist with a bunch of other older sci-fi themes (Blacktron, etc) this mainly just draws Space Police III into the broader sci-fi lineage. -This is important, however, because the coexistence of the Octan corporation in both Lego City and Lego Space themes indicates that most Lego space themes can be considered a canon future for the civilization depicted by Lego City sets. Those are the big three I can think of. (Except, of course, for how The Lego Movie ties all themes together with its meta genre-bending awesomeness ) Quote
Peppermint_M Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Atlantis also has a link back to Aquaraiders, one poor chap from the previous theme didn't have a happy ending as one set demonstrated! Dino links to Adventurers with Josh Thunder a descendant of Johnny (time scales make Johnny a little too old to be a father, maybe even grandfather to Josh). Quote
Lind Whisperer Posted March 17, 2015 Author Posted March 17, 2015 Classic Space is a very interesting case. There are two main theories that can be derived as to the setting: It's set in the future of LEGO City, as hinted by the similarities in the logos of the recent City Space wave. A printed wall piece from one of the early '70s bases reads 2076 - possibly the year the set is supposed to be set in. The theme has no relation to LEGO Earth, and the sets are in fact the navies of the planet Zonia, as suggested by the Jim Spaceborn comics. Personally, I take a third option that I believe melds the two ideas reasonably well. The first few waves of Classic Space, the iconic blue-bodied, grey-winged, and yellow cockpitted ships, are LEGO Earth ships, and their location on the greater timeline is presumably set in, or around, 2076. The later waves, when the color scheme shifted mainly to white bodies and blue cockpits, are Zonian ships, and they hail from Zonia. Quote
DuckBricks Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 (edited) I think that there are several different canons or alternate universes in place, at least for the Ninjago world. While Ultra Agents villains appear in Ninjago, their backstories are radically different, and some even have different names. For example, Invizable, an Ultra Agents character, was created when a popular singer was sucked into an evil portal and emerged as an invisible man. Mr. Paleman from Ninjago, who happens to be the same exact character as Invizable, is a descendant of a Master of Light... Even Clutch Powers is mentioned in Ninjago as what is supposed to be just an easter egg, although it can be argued that Ninjago is one of the worlds Clutch Powers visited on his many adventures... As for space, I personally think that all the worlds are interconnected, but due to their being little to no story info about each theme it is a tad hard to discern how they all fit in. And then there's this. I don't even know where to start with that crazy storyline. EDIT: Oh, and Galaxy Squad and Ultra Agents; they both contain Solomon Blaze Edited March 17, 2015 by legozebra Quote
Boxerlego Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 (edited) What about Technic theme. How would you include Technic Theme. It has figures also, are they giants... Time cruisers has Technic parts so Time cruiser must have technology from the giants, which brings this question up when and where did they receive this wonderful tech and are Time cruiser responsible for the distribution of this tech across time. Also think about this there was that episode where Space Ghost and Batman can be seen together. So does that mean there is a chance of a Space Ghost Theme LEGO in the near future... I cross my fingers. Edited March 19, 2015 by Boxerlego Quote
robuko Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 My figs live happily in a mash up coexistence between all themes and other character franchises, because I have a 5 year old! Quote
Umbra-Manis Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 They exist in Lego Universe! (Someone had to say it) I really enjoyed that game, it really would have been perfect for a minifig series. Quote
Thetford Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 I actually used to think as a kid that the Rock Raiders theme was in the same universe as the train theme at the time, as both had the same cave like background just in different colours on the packaging. I guess I thought they were the miners that carved out the rail tunnels. Quote
obsidianheart Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 My own personal build-stuff loosely incorporates a lot of different themes in a lot of ways that would make story-purists of those themes mad, but will never be rigid enough to be considered a canon, as it needs to be fluid enough to incorporate new themes at my (or my son's) whims without a tear-down/rebuild. I've never been too sold on the idea that the LEGO themes are really all that connected, anyway. They're like the ideas books in old buckets: There if you need them, but you can probably do okay without. Quote
