My first Lego train MOC, a New York City Subway car:

This is based on the NYC MTA's R142 (Original: http://www.imagesreplicas.com/R142-B%20NL.jpg). Im new to Lego trains so please feel free to comment/advise/question. I spent a ton of time trying to get angles on front right and am pretty happy with how this turned out but still need to find some stickers as a finishing touch I think. I designed this myself and then noticed New Brick City had done a similar NYC subway car before so I did use some of that design for inspiration on the bottom half of the car. Bogies etc were toughest for me and Im still thinking about trying to build custom ones that fit and look better. Anyway, enjoy and thanks for looking!

That's a nice model, quite detailed, how many pieces did you use.

My gut feeling says it's probably a little too tall, but I like the way you've done the details on the front face, especially the little slanted bits.

Looks good. You could lower down the door windows by one plate.

I agree and I might also be tempted to eliminate the studs appearing at the base of the windows by changing the underlying brick to a tile. That way the windows are only attached at their top (it's a bit flimsy, but it looks so much better)

Either way this is a good looking MOC and I like it.

Oh wow! That car looks great with a lot of subtle detailing tossed in to make it pop. You really got the difficult front well built. I suspect you are very close to the point where most changes at this point would take away almost as much as they fix... well, redoing the trucks might be a win win. Adding stickers might be a nice finishing touch (though I like it undecorated). The one thing you do need is to build another 3 of them for an honest train (grin). Great work.

Definitely understand the comments on door and overall height and had similar concerns. Basically the size of the windows (the transparent panels, not the train windows in the doors) led me to some compromises. I thought those window panels should start one plate below the top of the doors (easy to see in the pic dr_spock added, thank you) so when i moved the doors down a plate the window panels started to get too close to the bottom of the train when they started two plates below the roof - same problem when I made the whole train a couple plates lower - the window panels started to look too big/too close to bottom. I guess what I could do is use a different part (not sure what) and/or a SNOT technique for those windows to make them less than three bricks tall and avoid all these issues (and to hide the bottom studs). Thanks very much zephyr1934 - I spent a ton of time trying to get the front right and I was thinking about a few more cars (although the required cost and time would definitely get me in trouble at home...)

why not use http://www.bricklink...12&itemID=42404 with a transparent plate on top. Offcourse for the 4 wide windows you'll need 2 and you will notice the thin separation line but I think that would be a small comprimise

Nice car - agree with others that the angled lights came out really well. I also think the doors look great, at the same time I agree that the overall height could come down a plate or two.

Good effort, and nice solution to getting the headlights at an angle on the front there.

This looks good, it's like mine but wider and longer. I like the smooth roof and how you did the front of the car.
