Posted March 20, 20159 yr Hi, I have designed a Lego Model Railway and is based on the East Kent Railway and covers the Shepherds Well Station area to the area around Golgotha Tunnel and the curved main line connection, the plan was done in BlueBrick Software and edited in MS Paint (added text labels) Plan of the East Kent Railway Lego Model Railway. I plan to building the East Kent Railway Lego Model Railway starting later this year depending on how much cash I have, it will also be long term project. The Lego model railway is based on the East Kent Railway and covers the Shepherds Well Station area to the area around Golgotha Tunnel and the curved main line connection, including the Engine Shed and Turntable (in reality the East Kent Railway did not have a turntable), it will include a Headshunt and Run-around loop (In reality the East Kent Railway did not have a Headshunt and a Run-around loop) carriages were propelled or pushed into the station sidings by the Steam Locomotive and it was up to the guardsman to stop the carriages). I will be running both passenger trains and coal trains, this will include two passenger trains and two coal trains (one empty, and one full). The size of the Lego Model Railway is 192 studs wide (60 Inches) by 384 studs long (120 Inches). I already have built a Lego Steam Locomotive and some rolling stock, the locomotive is a Lego version of the EKR no 5 Adams Radial 4-4-2 Steam Locomotive and the rolling stock is based on the SR 10 Ton Goods Van and the LBSCR 48 Ft Bogie Coaches and started ordering the parts to make the platform end modules. The wide Radius Curves will be ME Models R104 and R88 Curves. I update the plan to include loops on both storage yards. Edited March 20, 20159 yr by jamesed_1971
March 20, 20159 yr That looks really nice, I like the idea of an open ended (non-loop) layout and this one has good form to it. You might want to add runaround tracks to the top two branches though. A freight train could go forward from one yard to the next, but it has no way of dropping the cars and returning with a different train. Likewise, with the single passenger runaround, once to the far end of the line the passenger train has to shove back.
March 20, 20159 yr Author I will add some runaround loops to each storage yard with a area to turn the locomotive around and add a forth siding to the coal & passenger storage yard, as for the passenger trains one would be starting from the station while the second passenger train would be in one of three / four storage tracks waiting its turn to go down the line once the line is clear and the other passenger train has arrived in the storage area. As for the coal train, the empty coal wagon would be stored on the coal train storage yard waiting for the coal train to come down from the coal and passenger storage yard with full coal wagons (as if the coal train was coming from Tilmanstone Colliery (which was beyond Eythorne which was beyond Golgotha Tunnel), a distance of 2.5 miles), once the coal train had pulled into the coal train storage, the steam locomotive would be decoupled from the full coal wagons and coupled up to empty coal wagon and would pull the empty coal wagons back to the coal and passenger storage yard (returning them to Tilmanstone Colliery). the full and empty coal wagons would be swapped over by hand to enable the next coal train to be ready. I am currently alter the Bluebrick railway plan. Another thing with this Lego Model Railway, if I have more money and more space in the future I could extend the Lego Model Railway to include Eythorne EKR Railway Station and the junction to Tilmanstone Collery and the main line to Wingham and Port Richborough.
March 20, 20159 yr Very interesting layout concept. And I see that you have even more ambitious plans.
March 20, 20159 yr Author I got the dimensions wrong, it is 672 studs wide (210 inches / 17.5 Foot), 1344 studs long (420 inches / 35 foot), due getting the size right, i am making it smaller, but if at some point in the future I hsve the minimum space of 20 ft by 40 ft and enough funds to support I will build the second plan.
