IMForeman86 Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 I'd say no. If you've watched the classic series, you will get loads of references that will give you a lovely warm feeling when you spot them in the game. But if you haven't, then when you will get a lovely warm feeling when you spot the LD references when you do watch them. LD has been described as 'a love letter' to Doctor Who fans in some reviews and Tt themselves admit that they spent more time than they should have on the DW content. Andy Holt and Mark Warburton are mahoosive fans, and it shows throughout the game. There's some really special Doctor Who treatment in there, it's great! I think it was Stephen Sharples from Tt that was responsible for a lot of the Who content though....judging by his Twitter profile when the game was released (@sharpysharps) Quote

I don't own the game (i have too little spare time alas) so i am actually only interested in the characters the packs come with. Mr. T!!!! Yeah Lego, thank you! From the whole bunch, this is my most anticipated one. And ET, but he isn't confirmed, is he? He probably come with the A-team van and i hope he's a funpack Adventure Time, yes please. 3 packs? Probably a teampack with Jake and Finn, and two funpacks. My guess: Lumpy Space Princess (like Slimer) with brickable Lady Rainicorn and the Ice King with some sort of Ice-shooter thing. Sonic. Never been fan of the games, but do like the figure. A musthave, but i do hope, just like Mr.T it'll be a funpack. And oh yeah, Dr. Who is just as nerdy/geeky as Mr. T, or as Sonic or as AFOLS are. It's not a competition. In the end a lot of NAFOLS (Not AFOLS) will see us as childish nerdy people, and they don't care if we know which Doctor is the tenth or seventh, or who Raven is, or et cetera et cetera. Quote
FrankyCentaur Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 Looks like Lego is coming out with an official brick-built Adventure Time set, guys- https://ideas.lego.com/blogs/1-blog/post/60 In my opinion, that pretty much confirms it. I doubt they got the licence for nothing, Adventure Time is coming to Lego Dimensions...? :) Quote

Darth Wayne Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 Nice, love me some AT!! Hopefully the hubworld has at least Candy Kingdom and some other places maybe, like Lemongrab's castle or LSP's dimension but then there's SO many locations they could do... Quote

jonwil Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 Midway must have inherited the rights to a bunch of Atari titles at some point, I know quite a few of those are definatly Atari titles (Gauntlet, Marble Madness, Paperboy) Quote
gamejutzu Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 That will certainly please some Adventure Time fans. Yeah, all they need to do is read the wishlist thread for inspiration. Although realistically, if they are releasing these, they should be done by now. Quote
rob-ot5000 Posted March 13, 2016 Posted March 13, 2016 (edited) List of the Midway games; *SNIP* OHHHHH MY GOD! MARBLE MADNESS! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!! *ahem* Sorry. That's cool. I liked that game. A lot. I liked Spy Hunter and Paperboy, too. Some of the others sound familiar, but I don't know for sure. There was one old game that I played where you fly around in a spaceship from left to right while enemies stream in at you from the edge of the screen. The mechanic was very similar to some of the gameplay in LEGO Avengers (and maybe some of the Dimensions stuff and others? I forget..), but for the life of me I can't remember the name. It looked similar to Defender, but I don't think that was it. Anyone have any idea? EDIT: Gradius. I think it was Gradius. The name came to me right after I posted, of course. Anyway, thanks for the list! Looking forward to my Best Buy shipment this week. I got this, Stay-Puft, Superman, and Aquaman! Here we come, Ralph Wiggum! Edited March 13, 2016 by rob-ot5000 Quote
Brickweiser Posted March 13, 2016 Posted March 13, 2016 Do we know what the Midway arcade terminals in each level accomplish? There is one in the Wizard of Oz level (1st story mission), but I found all the minikits for that level, and rescued Oz, so don't know what it will accomplish using the terminal. Quote

Forresto Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 I almost wish they would do a separate Lego Adventure Time game in on it's self. The series lends itself very well to TellTales style of humor and gameplay plus the episodic content is a perfect fit to the mission format. Quote

Regardless, I betcha they'll make some original content for the franchise especially when they release the level pack for it. And once your done with that level you can have Tree Trunks, The Ice King and maybe Cinnamon Bun as characters who give you quests, then you could visit the Candy Kingdom, go to Finn and Jake's home, maybe go to the Fire Kingdom or the alternative reality and then see Fiona and Cake, oh the possibilities are really endless! Wasn't there something said about how if some packs sold well enough that they could merit a whole game based on the franchise? I wouldn't be surprised if Adventure Time becomes one of those games. (Although I probably would've said the same for Ninja Turtles and that clearly didn't happen, despite being genius. Say, why don't they get the Ninja Turtles in on this action? I mean, sure, most of the franchises here are WB ones, but if they can get Back to the Future and Jurassic Park they could probably pull that off!) Quote

I mean, sure, most of the franchises here are WB ones, but if they can get Back to the Future and Jurassic Park they could probably pull that off! LEGO's license for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles expired, and Mega Bloks picked up the rights, so there won't be any more TMNT from LEGO for a while. For a franchise to appear in LEGO Dimensions, it presumably isn't enough for it to not appear in a competing toys-to-life game; it undoubtedly also has to have the construction toy rights available to TLG. gamejutzu Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 (edited) I feel like games based off one or two movies, or a plotless show, or a show with not much characters (because LEGO can't work with that... ) won't have that good a game experience. I mean, you have Finn. He can use his swords. He could glide with his hat. He has an inventory in his bag. Hooray? I mean, lots of franchises aren't interesting or solid enough to be it's own Lego game. Because the main problem here, is that LEGO will never stray away from it's "break and make" formula consisting of uncomplicated combat (downside for an Adventure Time game) , or uncomplicated puzzles (also a downside for an Adventure Time game). And besides, how boring would it be to only play as Bubblegum or Peppermint Butler for half or all a level? It's boring. Why would LEGO do that? Because only playing as around 5 characters with the Lego formula will get repetitive, so there has to be more characters to keep it fresh. And that would result in a boring game, as the "side" or "other" characters are not particularly interesting. And this isn't only for Adventure time. This is for all these other examples I keep hearing of, like Ghostbusters or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Both games have characters that are basically the same in terms of abilities, and uninteresting or not enough side characters. LEGO isn't going to evolve anytime soon, so I don't get why people are acting like it will. Unless they want it to have the Lego treatment, in which case I am pointing out why it wouldn't work. This isn't directly related to the discussion, but I occasionally hear talk of these concepts here. Edited March 15, 2016 by gamejutzu Quote

If they can find a way to make the likes of Bart and Homer Simpson into playable, functioning characters, they can do the same for Finn and PB. Finn could have anynumber of past magical artifacts, and PB has her science stuff. PepBut might be a little boring, but he's not the kind of character you'd play as in the story anyway. Quote

Lyichir Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 (edited) In general I feel that Dimensions is a great avenue for Lego themes that are either too niche or too limited in subject matter to support a full game to get their chance in the spotlight. Of course, that makes me wish that more unlicensed themes could be represented—I'd love to see themes like Elves, Friends, Nexo Knights, and Bionicle get some representation outside of mobile and handheld games, and for that matter a City world would provide a great opportunity to follow up on Lego City Undercover while covering some of the more recent sets and subthemes... sithewok Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 I played Midway arcade for a bit - up to the first checkpoint - in between jobs. It's definitely fun for someone like myself (old enough to remember the arcade heyday...). I do wish that they had reprogrammed the original games to have some visual relationship with Lego. I didn't realize that it was just going to be emulated versions of the games, honestly. I thought that it would be lego-ized versions. That may have been common knowledge, but I missed it. It's kind of disappointing as the games seem like an "artificial" way of progressing through the level if that makes sense... Quote
