Master_Data Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 Pretty confident they RFID chips just have a code to unlock the content. It doesn't make sense from a cost standpoint to put much data storage in the toy, also RFID data links are not very high bandwidth to be transferring actual content. In that case, the licenses announced now (and maybe next year) will probably be the only licenses we will see in the game. Unless they make future licenses available through a combination of an additional DLC and Fun Pack (Is that even possible in a toys-to-life game)? Quote
Vorkosigan Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 No reason the RFID code can't trigger a download of new content. Games these days are updated all the time. Quote
Blondie-Wan Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 If they intend to be able to release additional Level Packs well into the future, one would think there'd at least be some appreciable amount of data in the packs, since otherwise they'd have to develop all the additional levels and such now, years before they plan to release them. I would think they'd like to be able to keep the options open, perhaps for licenses and themes that haven't even been thought of yet. No reason the RFID code can't trigger a download of new content. Games these days are updated all the time. Or that. Quote
Master_Data Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 (edited) I just analyzed the extended trailer, and I wish I had done so before we started speculating based on that box! LEGO Orthanc (LotR) 00:27 Marty's guitar(definitely a reference to BttF if not completely accurate) 00:27 Mini statues of a lion and a dog (Oz?) 00:29 Another dog (looks like Toto from 04:45) 00:31 Unknown Poster 00:33 LEGO Crane/Wrecking Ball (City) 00:35 Ghostbusters Ghost Detector 01:02 Arcade Games (Defender? and Robotron:2084) 01:42 Wonder Woman (DC) 02:31 LEGO T. Rex (JP/JW) 02:31 LEGO Black Zero (DC) 02:31 Micro Manager (The LEGO Movie) 02:31 Sandwich reference (Scooby Doo) 03:31 Better view of the portal (printed with the Ninjago symbols and a compass, amongst others?) 04:40 Two-Face, Oliphaunt, Jay, Daily Planet 04:46 Vortech 04:57 Better picture of Lord Vortech 05:00 Batman Poster (DC) 5:10 Ninja Katana (Ninjago) 5:10 Donut (Simpsons) 5:10 Not much here that we haven't inferred from the character line-up on the top of the box... except that every reference I posted has a character in the game except for LEGO City and the T. Rex! Could some of the remaining characters be City and Dino/JP/JW characters? I hope so! After all, Universal is listed on the LEGO Dimensions homepage! Since every prop in the trailer is a reference to a playable character, can someone help me identify the poster at 00:33 and help me figure out how Defender (if I even read that correctly) and Robotron: 2084 could factor into the game? Can someone also determine what the other symbols on the dimensional portal (besides the Ninjago one) refer to? I wish I had caught this before, but it does suggest that we could be getting Jurassic World Fun Packs! Edited April 16, 2015 by Master_Data Quote

Boettner Builds Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 I don't really care about the game play, Just give me those MINIFIGS!!!!! :) Quote
legofanatic12 Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 All the minifigs can be removed from bases. Now I can get Bad Cop, Marty McFly, Wonder Woman and Cyborg minifigs without buying the whole set. Quote
Aanchir Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 Pretty confident they RFID chips just have a code to unlock the content. It doesn't make sense from a cost standpoint to put much data storage in the toy, also RFID data links are not very high bandwidth to be transferring actual content. Well, I wouldn't be surprised if there were SOME ability to save data to the figures. With other NFC figures like Skylanders, Disney Infinity, and Amiibo, you are often able to "level up" or "upgrade" a character and then save that data to the figure almost like a memory card. That way you can take the character you've "trained" over to a friend's house to assist or compete against their characters, or even trade a character you've "trained" with a friend sort of like Pokémon. The latest version of Skylanders, called Trap Team, also includes special "trap" pieces. They do not come preloaded with character data, but you can use them to capture enemies you defeat in the game in order to play as them later on. My brother has speculated that the vehicle chips in LEGO Dimensions might be a bit similar to this, letting you build vehicles in the game and then save them to the chip (hence why the vehicle chips are not uniquely decorated like the character chips — their data would be more mutable). 8BrickMario Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 Just mentioning that there's confirmation on the bases being separate pieces. Quote
Blondie-Wan Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 I think that was obvious to most of us here, looking at these more from the LEGO side than the game side, but I've seen a number of commenters who seem to come at it more from the gaming angle worry that the figures were permanently attached. It's nice to have the confirmation otherwise. (If they were permanently attached and fixed to the bases, of course, the tradional LEGO piece counts shown on the packaging would be wrong.) Quote
8BrickMario Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 Well, enough people were worried, so LEGO had to make the statement. Quote
Savage Oppress Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 I hope they release the game separately from the starter pack for $59.99, since $100 dollars is way too expensive for a Lego game and extra lego bricks that you can easily get from a Lego set in the Lego aisle. Quote
Blondie-Wan Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 The stuff in the starter pack includes the game pad and the RFID bases, as well as the more conventional LEGO elements. You wouldn't be able to do much with the game without them. Quote

legofanatic12 Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 Is Chen and the Riddler will have a playable figure soon or they are just non-playable villains? Quote
kevkipo Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 It still hurts Lego is teasing the LOTR fans with a Balrog and everything... They're like look here's what you could've gotten! Quote
Blondie-Wan Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 I think pretty much every LEGO video game based on an entertainment franchise, even the Star Wars ones, depicts characters, creatures, buildings, vehicles, etc. not portrayed in the actual sets. And every licensed theme, even Star Wars, lacks certain things in official sets that some fans would like to see. Quote
8BrickMario Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 And not to mention that several of the models in the games wouldn't be feasibly sturdy enough for release in a set. Since it's a game model, it won't fall apart, but a few of the vehicles or scenery builds have illegal techniques. Quote
8BrickMario Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 That doesn't strike me as Hogwarts, but I don't know what it is. There have been no clues as to an HP element of the game at all. Quote
just2good Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 That doesn't strike me as Hogwarts, but I don't know what it is. There have been no clues as to an HP element of the game at all. Doesn't seem like it'll be in the game, I'd imagine they'd reveal it now since it's a WB property. Maybe, if there's a followup game next year, they'll be in along with some stuff from the spinoff, but let's not get too ahead of ourselves! Quote
PenPlays Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 Do I see Hogwarts in the background? It's Minas Tirith. Notice the white tree on the left of Balrog. Quote
