"Press annoucement for the new Dimensions series:

"LEGO® Dimensions™ packs based on 16 new entertainment properties will begin launching on September 27, 2016 with the Ghostbusters Story Pack, Adventure Time and Mission: Impossible Level Packs, Harry Potter and Adventure Time Team Packs, and The A-Team Fun Pack. Additional expansion packs based on other highly anticipated films Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and The LEGO® Batman Movie and wildly popular properties The Goonies, Sonic The Hedgehog, Teen Titans Go!, LEGO® City Undercover, Knight Rider, The Powerpuff Girls, Gremlins, Beetlejuice and E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial will be released in product waves stretching into mid next year. All expansion packs provide players with continued compatibility to use everything from waves 1-9 interchangeably, anywhere throughout the game. And no new starter pack is required, as all new packs will simply enhance the LEGO® Dimensions™ Starter Pack game and work with the existing LEGO® Toy Pad.""

So finally we are getting LEGO City Undercover based stuff on non Nintendo game systems. Hopefully its a level pack or even better a story pack to make up for the games being made only for Nintendo systems.

When you realize that this is the first time the same character has been used in more than one toys-to-life property (Sonic in Amiibo/this).

Well sorry but no it's not ,as I might have mentioned on the last page nintendo have a Bowser amiibo are thre is also a skylanders Bowser. :smug:

Wow! The only minifigure I don't like is Jake, and perhaps Voldemort and Harry, as I would have liked entirely new figures. This is exciting! So many new franchises, though I'm worried about the direction the Powerpuff Girls choose.

I can't wait to have a Beetlejuice/Betelgeuse minifigure. And I loved that Sonic joke at the end. This is gonna be great!

Every franchise has tons of characters they could do. I don't know why there's the continual assumption that they will go back to "old" franchises to make more characters. Lego will (and should) only go forward with new franchises to entice more people to join in to the game. Plus they've already made full games for Harry Potter, Jurassic World, LotR, etc. so making more packs for them is rather redundant. Not that I don't appreciate their inclusion in the first place.

Whilst I agree that they're right to introduce new franchises, I also think if they completely ignore the old ones it will be a mistake as it will alienate the fans of the old IPs. Many people bought LEGO Dimensions primarily because Doctor Who was in it for example so if there's no more Doctor Who content that would mean any Whovian who doesn't like these new franchises will be alienated (having said that, there is evidence to suggest there will at least be a Strax NFC minifigure).

Plus it will also leave some exclusions look even more odd. No Marge or Lisa Simpson yet for instance and it stupidly sounds like there will be no Simpsons content this year, so any new Simpsons stuff would probably come next year.

Not quite — Bowser and Donkey Kong have previously been released as both Amiibo and Skylanders SuperChargers figures.

How did they do it last year? Did they come out with a trailer and then come out with the pictures of the actual packs at a later date or did they all come out together

They announced some packs later but I believe they released pictures of the actual packs during their announcement.

The world does not revolve around Dr. Who. And again, Lego would get far more people playing the game by adding in more and more wide-variety franchises than building up one that less people may be interested in. In regards to Simpsons, I agree it may have been better to use Marge or Lisa as opposed to say Krusty, but it does appear Lego was very limited in regards to their Simpsons options as they lacked the ability to use the voice actors (with the exception being Dan Castellaneta), which not only made the characters rather quiet, but severely limited the level options. It's seems clear that some franchises are one-off's and others are not.

So, there'll be a third Adventure Time pack, in addition to the other two?

Apparently. There's a good amount of options on who it could include. I'm hoping for the Ice King, although I could see him being used as the level villain instead (if not the Lich, as indication from Finn's box art).

LEGO CITY UNDERCOVER!!!

While I'm disappointed that there aren't more original Lego IPs on the list, I have been hoping for this franchise in particular for a long time. I wonder what exactly we'll get. A team pack with Chase McCain and Rex Fury would be awesome, but so would a story pack that could conceivably include levels based on recent City subthemes like Arctic, Volcano, and Deep Sea Explorers.

Agreed! Rex Fury as a physical minifig... that would be cool!

I'm starting to feel more and more alienated from Lego Dimensions, because of the bombardment of licenses which I am not familiar with. I am not going to watch the A-team, Ghostbusters, Docter Who, the Goonies, etc. just to be able to appreciate and spend money on these sets! These licences bring unique, specialized pieces and designs that could be useful, but TLG has many great original IPs that I'd rather see. How about BIONICLE: Mask of Light, the Movie, with (proper) figure versions of Takanuva and Makuta in a team pack?

If you are going to 'legoficate' so many half-mainstream stuff, why not do that for great original Lego IPs? :sceptic:

The LEGO Batman Movie? Does that mean we're finally going to get LEGO Movie Batman?

I'm not sure what you mean by that, but if you're talking about getting a minifig based on Batman appearance in the LEGO Movie, I think we already did in set 70817?

On topic though, I can't express how excited I am about all this.

I am looking at the rumor list from September 2015. http://brick-inquire...o-dimensions-2/

It's interesting that some packs are numbered and some aren't. If this really indicates how many packs there'll be for any franchise, the situation is as follows for Year2:

Adventure Time: >=3 (at least one LP and one TP)

Ghost Busters 2016: >=2 (at least one Story Pack)

Fantastic Beasts: >=2 (at least one Story Pack)

Harry Potter: >=2 (at least one TP)

Teen Titans Go: >=2

Sonic: >1

Gremlins: >1

E-T: >1

One-Off releases:

Mission Impossible

A-Team (Fun Pack)

Knight Rider

And I really hope that Dimensions2 will show all Year2 characters and their abilities in-game, so that I can plan which non-redundant packs to buy to get 100%.

I never said it does. There's other franchises that would alienate big fan bases if they didn't continue them too - Lord of the Rings, for example. Yes, introducing new franchises adds variety but they've got to keep some of the old ones too because they are the reason why many are playing the game. Some people picked up the game for Scooby Doo, a lot would have found Jurassic World appealing and many are crying out for more Wizard of Oz. If they just focus on the new franchises, then they'll lose a lot of people who played the game for the old ones. They'll gain a lot of new players but I think they would find they'd have more playing if they continue the old franchises alongside the new.

I'm not saying they should produce loads for the old franchises but at least one per old franchise a year alongside the new ones would provide a better experience in my view.

I wonder what other Story Packs there will be as well as Fantastic Beasts and Harry Potter? An eight-level Sonic The Hedgehog story would be fun.

I think out of the new franchises, the one with the most potential is probably Harry Potter. There are a lot of iconic Harry Potter characters they could do.

I 100% agree. I have a feeling Harry Potter/Fantastic Beasts is going to be the most populair of all the packs...

The licence coverage is phenomenal, and with Disney Infinity shutting down, we know there's a lot more to come. I think what's also great is the minifigures, obviously it would be very impractical for Lego to produce a wave of sets from every single one of these licences, so this is a good way of giving fans the iconic minifigures without having to produce waves upon waves of sets - or CMF series for that matter.

Certainly Harry Potter and probably Fantastic Beasts. I can see Harry Potter having more longitivtiy than Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them but it all depends on whether audiences find the Wizarding World without Harry Potter as appealing as the Harry Potter series.

They've haven't officially said they don't intend to follow up the other franchises. Sure, we're seeing a lot of coverage devoted to the new franchises, but that doesn't mean they won't add to the old ones. Dr. Who, the Wicked Witch, Harley Quinn and Scooby Doo get a fair amount of coverage in the trailer (Some even got a little bit of voicing), so that tends to suggest they still recognize them as important franchises. That doesn't guarantee more packs, but it does imply they'll continue to have some importance within the game, if anything they might just be used in the updated story more.
