Sigh... too bad that, much like with the distro and preorder on LEGO Jurassic World, they dropped the ball for us PC-gamers. (US LEGO JW sounds like Steam Exclusive, which means "No Preorder Goodies For You!" :( )

May still pick up the two BTTF packs anyway, along with if they happen to do any "Classic JP" (not JW, not any of the other craptastic sequels, the original Jurassic Park).

Does anyone else think that this seems like a pretty risky venture for LEGO? Right now we have confirmation of at least 40 different sets being released, but nearly everyone who buys even one of them will probably want to have the $100 video game and portal first. LEGO has made video games in the past, but they're not sure how many people will be willing to shell out $100 for a game and $15 for each additional character.

Also, who knew that Superman got around on his own private scooter jet? (I think a microscale Fortress of Solitude would have been a lot cooler.)

It doesn't sound risky at all, there are a ton of Lego fans in the world: kids, teenagers, adults, and elders. Disney, Activision, and Nintendo were successful in doing it with Disney Infinity, Skylanders, and Amiibo for Super Smash Bros.

The Ghostbusters will be a level pack. Anyways is Joker and Harley Quinn are good guys in this game? Even they are still supervillains I saw them in the trailer fighting with Winged Monkeys and Winkies in the Wizard of Oz level.

Can't wait for the next trailer to see Chell, Doctor Who, Homer, Chima characters, and Owen Grady in action.

For the rumored S11 Yeti minifigure in LEGO Dimensions, once if its the rest are fully revealed it will be a Minifigures level pack which allows you to switch into other minifigure from Minifigures series.

No telling. I've been thinking about how the Ghostbusters might be brought into the game. The problem is that I can't think of enough side-builds to go with them. Obviously the Ectomobile would be one thing, but then what?

That aside, if we were to get the whole team, I'd assume one Level Pack, one Team Pack and one Fun Pack. Otherwise, I'd guess we just may not get the whole team.

As far as the "sides" go, there are actually several playable characters now known who are villains / antagonists, at least in the source material - the Wicked Witch of the West, Gollum, Bane, the Joker, Harley Quinn, and even Bad Cop (albeit not so bad in the end). Perhaps there are multiple goals - like, some common goal of defeating a menace that threatens all the worlds and everyone in them, but then individual characters could also have their own personal goals on the side, that might be at odds with other characters (like, "get back the Ring" or "break the Bat" or "steal all the Chi" or whatever). It could make character interactions pretty interesting. But who knows? I will say I'm dying to know more about how the game and all these characters work. LEGO and WB have done a good job of piquing my interest, I must say.

I'm sure Lego can whip something up. A number of the Dimension sets have builds that are never seen in any of the source material. Gimli comes with an axe chariot? Superman with his hover pod? Aquaman with his sub scooter thing? They could also make a brick built Slimer or something if they don't want to make a vehicle or building for the Ghostbusters.

I feel like they are releasing way too many of these figure packs. They're not cheap either. I'd rather spend the $15+ on an actual lego set.

Too many for completion, perhaps, since all of those overpriced packs plus the expensive game really stack up to a large LEGO Dimensions bill.

Well, obviously. And collecting all LEGO Star Wars sets is very expensive as well. That doesn't mean there are too many of those (which is not to say that there aren't too many - though I'm not saying that there are, either; I'm just saying it doesn't mean anything).

I don't think anyone - certainly not LEGO or WB - expects even half of LEGO Dimensions players to even attempt to complete a set of all add-on packs. I'm sure they expect most players to just place an emphasis on those characters and themes that most interest them. LEGO and WB will offer these accordingly - there will likely be far fewer copies made of each specific individual add-on pack, say, than of the starter packs, since they will assume that for any given character, there will be a certain percentage of players that aren't interested in that character, versus players who are.

The flip side, though, is that to fully exploit the game's potential, and also make it as satisfying and engaging as possible, they will want to offer a massive variety of characters, so that each player can find as many characters as they want and can afford. It allows them to fine-tune the revenue potential they can get from each player. Those players who only like a few of the available characters, or can afford only a few, can at least get those few, while those players who like a ton of the characters and are inclined to buy lots of them can do so. It doesn't work as well if they release only a few characters, though.

I just pray that distribution will be fair. If they make store-exclusive or limited-edition packs like previous toys-to-life games, I'll lose respect for the game.

It's an assumption based on the prominent use of an unmistakable Ghostbusters PKE meter in the extended version of the announcement video.

Do we have pictures of that? Because I don't think I've seen that.

*cough*Amiibo!*coughcough*

Yeah, Lego's facing a pretty low bar for that. I'm sure we'll see some retailer exclusives, but I'm sure Lego will be fair about it and not make it impossible to find the ones you want.

Also, who knew that Superman got around on his own private scooter jet? (I think a microscale Fortress of Solitude would have been a lot cooler.)

I'm telling you, man, the Supermobile would've been great! Or maybe the Justice Jogger!:grin:

It will probably be around the lines where the Dr. Who, Portal, Wizard of Oz, and Back to the Future Packs will be hard to find until supply meets demand. Other themes in Dimensions will simply be available at all times simply due to the fact that demand isn't astronomical for those character (calling it now, Chima will be shelf warmers).

My thoughts on how demand will effect stock:

Common: Ninjago, Legends of Chima, DC (depends on the character), Lego Movie (depends on the character)

Uncommon: DC (depends on the character), Lord of the Rings, Simpsons, Lego Movie (depends on the character)

Rare: Dr. Who, Portal, Wizard of Oz, Back to the Future

I think the pieces included will also have a huge impact. Right now the LotR sets seem lacking since they don't have any new prints or molds. No Lego LotR fans want to get them unless they are getting the game as well. With the Portal, Doctor Who, and now BttF packs though, they all offer an exclusive print or mold only (currently) available in that set. That means Lego fans who have no interest in the game will buy them up as well just to get these new pieces.

Quite possible, although I expect LEGO (and / or WB) will at least try to tune the supply to the demand, and actually produce more of those packs they expect to be most popular, and fewer of the packs they expect to be less popular. I'm therefore going to hazard a guess that most of the packs will be roughly equally easy to find, with the possible exception of an occasional outlier for whom they misjudge the demand (in either direction). Oh, and any vendor exclusives, of course.

Yes, I have no doubt about that. We already have people just in this very thread saying they indeed to get this pack or that pack just for the elements (including but not limited to minifigure elements) even though they won't get the game.

I don't expect any of these to sell out. Anything that is outsourced by LEGO is often made in an extensive number of quantities. Look at the "Everything is Awesome" edition of the Lego Movie. You can still find mass quantities of that in many stores yet it's really not that expensive for what you get.

I can think of a few other builds... Of course the Ectomobile, but then you could have a brick built mini Stay-Puf Marshmallow Man, a micro Ghostbuster HQ (I don't remember if that's it's real name), heck, considering the piece count in some of these "builds" LEGO might try to get away with a Proton Pack build, which would be disappointing....

Posted (edited)

I think they'll keep the proton packs as brick-built accessories worn by the characters, just like the existing ones from the Ideas set, most likely with the same build and the same printed piece in the back. Or possibly they might create a new molded element to take the place of the whip or something, but keep part of the build the same. I think they wouldn't count it as the "side" build in these; it'd be more like Bane's backpack, and they'll do something else for the additional build.

A mini Mr. Stay-Puft does seem a good candidate after the obvious mini Ectomobile, and perhaps Slimer / Onionhead and mini Lady Liberty, assuming they do give us all four. Those seem the four likeliest side builds to me... though if they do it the way I was thinking and give us one team member in a Level Pack, two in a Team Pack, and one in a Fun Pack, we'd still need one more build to make a total of five (since the Level and Team Packs have two apiece). Hmmm...

Most of the builds are either vehicles, or some sort of secondary character / creature (Shelob, K9, a flying monkey, etc.), but they can apparently be any crazy thing, like a ginormous sandwich. What could work for the Ghostbusters, after using all those other things?

Like I said, I think we'll get Stay Puft and Slimer packs... And, I hope the level pack includes Vinkman with a proper new hair mould (all level packs besides The Simpsons seem to include a new moulded piece).
