I would have to assume that since some classic arcade games were shown in the announcement video as teases, those particular games would likely be some of the ones in the game. That gives us Defender and Robotron 2084 (!), it seems...

Let's hope for Gauntlet. Actually, no need to...

New pic. What's the most interesting to me is that the "female acrobatic walls" from the LEGO Movie game are returning to the LEGO Movie world.

Yep, although there might be other non female characters who can get up them too. To be honest its going to be interesting to see if Batman for example still has the ability to change suits and therefore fly (From 2nd and 3rd Batman TT games)

In the trailers I have seen many of the features of TT games of the past are there, Silver and Gold lego blocks (the ones that can be destroyed with explosives or fire/lazers).

In the last trailer there is bit where the Scooby Doo Mystery Machine is driving towards the camera and in the background it looks like the the puzzle from the Marvel game where you had to use Ant Man when hes small to get through.

From IGN:

The villain in the game, Lord Vortek, has found the originating base plates for each of the shared universes in the Lego system. While the TT team couldn’t fairly position mixing worlds as a crime in the wake of The Lego Movie, it’s the evil purpose Vortek is twisting those mash-ups to that’s the real problem. Having kidnapped the leading heroes’ sidekicks, he unwittingly invites the attention of the game’s three main protagonists (and starter set pack-ins) Batman, Wildstyle, and Gandalf.

The mash up starts right out of the gate, with our trio of heroes encountering Dorothy and her three traveling companions on the Yellow Brick Road. Batman, on being introduced to Dorothy’s Scarecrow, immediately mistakes him for the Gotham City villain and becomes convinced that the flying monkeys and fields of poppies are hallucinations brought on Scarecrow’s gas. It’s a great bit of humor and immediately reasserts the angst-ridden, pompous Batman from The Lego Movie.

Since there is Laval, Eris, and Cragger in fun packs which they used a 2014 Fire variant instead of a 2013 one. Who will be in the team and level packs?

My guess:

Chima Team Pack: Gorzan and Worriz.

Chima Level Pack: Either Tormak or Rogon

I suspect there won't be a Level Pack for Chima. I suspect that world / realm / level / universe / whatever will be in the base game with the starter pack, and we just need to add characters.

Clever bit with the Scarecrow, but I thought this was supposed to be the DC version of Batman, not the LEGO Movie one.

I think it was confirmed somewhere both Batman's (DC and Lego Movie) are in this game, which will lead to the inevitable meeting of the two and TT will have plenty to work with on that! Mabey they can throw in 60's Batman from the last Batman game.

Hahaha. Agreed, I want to see that Scarecrow cutscene. Also, maybe Batman has multiple personalities... technically he already has 2 anyway. XD

TLM Batman: I only work in black... and sometimes very very dark grey.

*60s Batman walks in wearing his blue and light-grey outfit*

Also, isn't there also the Batman from the TV/Direct-to-DVD specials? (Not including the DC Superheroes Unite movie which was essentially the movie version of the Lego Batman 2 videogame.) That means there are 4 Batmans (Batmen? ). I'm not sure what would happen if all 4 of them met each other.

Since there are three characters in the starter pack, I was hoping that TT will finally create a three-player co-op game (my two kids always wants me to play with them). But the game description seems to indicate it's still only 2 player.

Players can let imagination guide their solo journey or have a friend join the adventure with co-operative, drop-in/drop-out play.

The portal is suppose to support up to 7 add-ons at once, but I guess that means only two characters and then five vehicles/gadgets.

This video is from yesterday. I thought the title was pretty misleading:

In-Depth w/ LEGO Dimensions Gameplay & Secrets

I felt that the the discussion on gameplay was close to zero-depth. But I'm guessing it's like all the TT games from the past years so no point in talking about running around a linear level collecting bricks. One frustrating thing with most TT games is that in trying to make the game work internationally (or to save money), there is usually no dialog or on-screen instructions. That meant a lot of wandering around and trial and error, which leads to the kids crying for daddy to search gamefaqs. :) Please let the characters talk in this game and have someone assign you on missions.

But the video did have some interesting discussions on rebuilding the portal or moving the figures physically around to solve puzzles. I don't know... I hope the physical aspect is actually meaningful gameplay and not just mindless busy work.

As seen from the side-shot of all console versions of the game, the portal device is the same.

Screen-Shot-2015-04-09-at-11.18.39-AM-1280x8661-600x405.png

A super close-up of the PS4 version shows that the portal has a long usb cable.

So this won't be wireless like some versions of other similar products. I wonder what would happen if I connect this to a PC. Hopefully, the portal hardware is exactly the same for all versions and you can use the same one for different consoles, but that only makes sense if they sell the game itself separately.

I've seen screenshots and such with more playable characters than that in use at once. I suspect the only limits on number of total... constructions (minifigures and side-builds) are that a) anywhere from one to a maximum of seven items can be placed on the toy pad, and b) at least one of those has to be a playable character figure (for each person playing, so at least one for single-player, at least two for two-player). Note how most or all the other TT LEGO games (at least since LEGO Star Wars in 2005) let one have more characters in play at once than players, and players typically switch between different characters for different abilities. I suspect in this game, one can indeed have up to seven characters on the pad at once (and it would just mean not having any vehicles / creatures / sandwiches / whatever). But it would be nice to find out.

I'd also like to know whether the game will allow having multiples of the same character used together in a single game. There will obviously be lots of players who will want to play with friends who also have the game, and lots of them will have some of the same characters (if nothing else, there will obviously be a colossal overlap in ownership of Wyldstyle, Gandalf and Batman). What happens when somebody puts two (or more) Doc Browns on the same pad? A pair o' docs paradox?

Disney Infinity uses the same base for consoles from the same company, meaning the Wii base is compatible with the Wii U, and PS3-PS4 (The Xbox 360 & One being the exception), so there's that. I'm not too sure about how different the 7th and 8th-gen consoles are different from each other, I can definitely see the portal being exactly the same for all the editions of Dimensions, with only the software disc being the difference. Having only one type of portal hardware to manufacture would be more efficient, wouldn't it? That might also explain why the Dimensions base is not nearly as thin as the Infinity base, since it may have to be bigger to support all the different consoles. Also, all Infinity 1.0 bases are compatible with the 2.0 and 3.0 software, which means only the game software has changed between Infinity versions. That's why I'm glad Lego isn't going down that route. (And at least Disney will be offering the 3.0 disc separately.) The only actual good reason for a "2.0" in Dimensions would be an actual improvement/change on the portal hardware.

But the thing is if you look at the picture posted theres a flat circle disc in the center of the toy pad that you're supposed to place one of the items on and while it may very well be for the level items you get in level packs, for some reason I seem to remember somewhere that your supposed to place a vehicle on that spot. but that wouldn't make sense as in screen shots we've seen two vehicles in play (ie gimli racing batman with opposite vehicles) plus it would be stupid to only allow one vehicle at a time, so hopefully I'm just crazy *huh* . again, it would make sense to put the level pieces there ie the tardis or Marty's hoverboard.

From what I've seen, the "Level" pieces will just be the playable characters in the Level Packs. When you first open any pack, you're directed to assemble the figure (or figures, if it's a Team Pack) and put it on the pad, which then gives you in-game instructions for building everything else in the pack. I imagine the initial figure triggers a download of any data the game requires, whether it's just that one in-game character plus the instructions for the side build, or a whole new level.

I'm not 100% certain yet that it actually does have a "special" purpose (one uniquely different from the two L-shaped areas) at all. So far, the only thing we know for sure about the three areas on the pad is that a player will be able to move something from one area to another to execute certain in-game actions. But even that might just be a way to perform an action, and not actually depend on the placement of a character or object on a specific part of the pad.

(Mind you, I don't pretend to know for sure. I've already been surprised by lots of things about this game already, so I'm clearly not that great at making guesses.)

Yeah this game is chock full of surprises! One that I just noticed is that on the box it says internet connection required. now maybe all games say this and im an idiot for pointing it out but it says it on the front and i've never noticed a lego game say that on the cover before. so if it is indeed unique then imagine how cool it would be if this game had an online function!! getting to run around the worlds with multiple other people would be awesome! I reeaaallly hope this happens! but again it could mean nothing and im getting hype over nothing but i really hope it does mean something
