8BrickMario Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 Instructions! Some really nice parts there, like the light blue A-frames and printed trans-purple shields. Interesting use of the Mini-Hero arms as well. Also, this is the most concrete proof we have of the bases being separate. Quote

This is interesting, look at the change in the Simpsons level look: The left is from the instructions put up a month or so again, and the right is from this new instruction. Quote
Blondie-Wan Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 Instructions! Some really nice parts there, like the light blue A-frames and printed trans-purple shields. Interesting use of the Mini-Hero arms as well. Is that what those things are? I was wondering about them. I'm not well-acquainted with Hero Factory stuff, and there are lots of parts from it I don't know. And look at that big, funky-shaped 12 x 24 plate with the two 6 x 6 corner cutouts and the 6-wide circular hole! Far out! I somehow didn't realize there would be a big new oddly-shaped plate like that; I guess I was thinking the whole portal assembly was based on a few smaller, more conventional plates held together edge-to-edge by all the stuff stuck on top of them. Nice to see we finally get Wyldstyle's Piece of Resistance tracker (and with a printed tile, yet - even while the one in the actual movie was shown as a sticker). That's not in any of the regular The LEGO Movie sets, is it? I haven't actually put any of mine together yet, aside from the Minifigures line - I've been waiting until I could finish collecting more or less the whole line, and then put all of them together in one huge TLM build-fest... Also, this is the most concrete proof we have of the bases being separate. That, plus when the other instructions confirmed it a month or so ago, plus when LEGO reps confirmed it a while before that... ;) Quote

Dorayaki Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 (edited) The only in-house LEGO themes are the ones that have been totally franchised out, with TV shows and a long theme life. Everything else is licensed, which is a shame, since kids buy more than just Ninjago, Chima, and licensed sets. Chima and Ninjago are long-standing enough to still be relevant, though, while other in-house themes could fade into obscurity depending on how long Dimensions lasts. It's currently the best intepretation for the participant themes. But still, since it's not nominally "LEGO Movies' Dimension", the uncodified qualification is still unfair. It might make some sense all themes are licensed. Other than Chima and Ninjago, other story-based LEGO themes came with one or several annual TV specials at most. Among them, I think Friends do get lots of advertising---but in different ways other than mainstream TV or movie series. This year the eofficial channel intend to do more webisodes to show the daily life in Heartlake City. Although I expect a long-length story as well, perhaps it does correspond to the main idea of this theme. Still, popular and topselling themes are not always determined by having a TV show license or not. I think the theme participating problem already existed in TLM. While Chima is the only new addition, although many retro and major LEGO themes were referred in TLM, it actually barely mentions any of those LEGO's in-house story-based themes. Johnny Thunder, who is unable to be in this game, was the only LEGO hero made appearanced other than Lloyd from Ninjago. Therefore, TV franchise seems not to be the only factor. Shawn Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 (edited) Those instructions have been taken down :( What set where they for? They were for the Start Pack 71172. I saved all of the important pages here, but I am not sure if they had another manual as well. I was only able to save this one. http://minifigpriceguide.com/wordpress/lego-dimensions-minifigure-building-instructions-confirm-that-the-minifigures-can-be-taken-apart/ Edited June 12, 2015 by Shawn Quote
Master_Data Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 Johnny Thunder, who is unable to be in this game, was the only LEGO hero made appearanced other than Lloyd from Ninjago. Why not? We haven't gotten an announcement yet, but a Thunder-esque character would be perfect for this game, especially since Indy is off limits. Quote
Dorayaki Posted June 14, 2015 Posted June 14, 2015 Why not? We haven't gotten an announcement yet, but a Thunder-esque character would be perfect for this game, especially since Indy is off limits. It was to indicated that many LEGO heroes are absent from TLM and Dimensions is showing a similiar situation. So Johnny's possible join wouldnt make it even better. But like you said, Johnny was considered a ripped-off version of Indy and it seems like that he can dominate the adventrous side of LEGO themes by the hands of WB. Quote
npgcole Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 They're about to show some gameplay here if anyone's interested: https://www.youtube.com/e3?feature=int-yo-e3 Quote
JDW Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 Yeah, the YouTube Live is all about a Portal level for those interested. Gameplay looks identical to all of the other TT Lego games. Video also shows the physical Lego gamepad lighting up. Looks pretty cool. Quote
CM4Sci Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 Speaking of the Portal level, the original creators of that Ideas project published a remade version of the Portal project. Quote
Oky Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 Nice! I like what I'm seeing so far. I was hoping the gameplay in the portal level would have been closer to that in the portal games, but I guess that was asking for too much. Also, only 9 test chambers? I know it's just an add-on, but that seems a bit short considering they already breezed through two of them in that short demo. Oh well, still excited for this level pack! Quote
Oky Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 Wait, it sounded like they were saying that this level is included in the starter pack... Maybe the level pack will come with test chambers in addition to these 9 that come in the main game? That would be great. That might explain why the wild west Hill Valley seems to be in the main game. Maybe the BTTF level pack includes a level for Hill Valley in 1985 and/or 1955. Quote
Oky Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 Or maybe they just "forgot" to mention that you will need to buy Chell in order to unlock this level in the first place. EDIT: Sorry for the triple post. Quote

JDW Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 It certainly sounded like the Portal level comes in the main game - they said it was about mid-way through the game, with Oz being the first level. Quote

KristofBD Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 A little birdie tells me that the game comes with a default level for all franchises, but the level packs unlock a free-roam world of each franchise. So does that mean all franchises get a level pack? Quote
just2good Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 So does that mean all franchises get a level pack? No, some of these free-roam places come by deafult I've heard. Quote
badbob001 Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 (edited) If the game comes levels to all known themes, then each level must have something to entice you to buy the related fun pack. If previous lego star wars games are an indicator, then there will be doors to areas that are only unlockable if you have the correct character. So in the portal level, I bet there are areas that are only reachable if you have Chell. Normally you would unlock characters if you play well or enough. But now you just have to take our your wallet. :) This is pretty smart of TT/Warner/Lego. They give everyone a "free" taste of a level and but if you want more, you have to buy the related character pack. Pretty subtle form of product-placement. I think as we get into late 2016, there will be newer themes and levels that are not part of the original game. Then they will need something to get you to buy or download a Dimensions 2.0 expansion. If Lego is smart, they should retroactively patch the original levels to support newer characters and give players a reason to replay the old levels. Edited June 16, 2015 by badbob001 Quote
8BrickMario Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 That's an awesome trailer! I love LEGO-GLaDOS, although she sounds off, and that quick appearance of Wheatley was funny, I wonder what Homer was doing? Those new modes look really interesting, with the size-shifting and elemental powers. That's what those printed shields are for on the portal, then, Quote
