I'm still miffed that LEGO City: Undercover didn't get a PC release. The "features that would be too complicated to replicate on a PC" consist of moving a rectangle around until things highlight. There is no real reason why that couldn't be programmed. Except that it's "supposed to be a WiiU exclusive". Which is honestly one of the...least logical choices for advertising LEGO's made. Think about it. The WiiU itself costs $500. The game another $550. What kind of parent is going to spend more money on LEGO after having already forked out $550?

I am a PC gamer and I do not care what platform they release this on. I won't be playing it, I just want all of those figs!!!!! :)

All the figures except for the ones that comes with the start kits, right?

Actually all of those minifigures could be gotten in other normal sets for much cheaper. There is nothing special or new in the starter set other than the game, is there? No new prints or molds...?

The printed shields, the baseplate, Wyldstyle's tracking device...

And of course there's the toy pad itself, which could also be considered a LEGO element (it does have studs, after all). And the NFC bases - three of one type, all printed, and one of another, blank. And there are other parts in colors in which they're either uncommon or unique to this set (at least, it has eight of those new-ish A-shaped plates - this piece - in medium blue).

The Wii U costs $300, not $500. Lego City Undercover costs $60, not $550. And video game exclusives happen all the time. Lego Dimensions' absence from PC is odd, but City Undercover's made sense. It wasn't on Xbox 360 or PS3. The game was designed with the Gamepad in mind, and features many Nintendo references. It was made for the Wii U only, why would it be ported?

Also, I'm guessing a main reason for no PC Lego Dimensions is that it's a toys-to-life game. These games rarely are released unchanged on PC because it's easy to hack the game and unlock all the characters and levels for free.

This exciting photo was retweeted by the official Dimensions account... are they selling them there early or something?

What kind of parent is going to spend more money on LEGO after having already forked out $550?

The kind of parent who has a lot of disposable income and spends a considerable portion of that on gifts for their child. One of the most profitable kinds of parent as far as LEGO is concerned! Additionally, any LEGO video game release, even on PC, can potentially demand a lot of up-front investment from parents, since PCs that parents own for personal use do not necessarily have the same graphics processing capabilities as a dedicated game console.

It's also worth noting that LEGO City Undercover was actually published by Nintendo. As I see it, Nintendo and TT Games probably saw it as a very beneficial partnership, since both LEGO and Nintendo are incredibly popular with children, and LEGO games have been incredibly successful on Nintendo consoles in the past. The opportunity to have early access to the system hardware (and be able to devote all their development time to optimizing the game for one system that they didn't have prior experience developing for) was probably a big incentive for TT Games as well.

CM4Sci, according to the original tweet, this was a "sneak peek" at E3. No mention of them being for sale or distribution there, though.

*sigh*

Sorry, I guess I should have been more clear. I meant there is nothing new in terms of the minifigures in the starter set? Of course there are the printed chips and the game base.. but I thought people who weren't interested in the game were really just after the exclusive new minifig prints and new molds. I mean are people really planning on collecting the chips if they aren't even able to or don't want to use them?

That gets me thinking. Since the chips are the only piece that contains the character unlock, I wonder if people will buy sets and then just sell the chips separate and keep the minifigures if they don't have a system to play the game or any interest in playing? I could see people buying say the Ghostbuster pack and then replacing the new Venkman with the old and selling off the chip and old minifig. Maybe even just selling off the chip alone for cheap. It would be a way to unlock all the characters for dramatically reduced prices in the game if you don't care that much about the minifigures.

A bit of confirmation from Andy at FamilyGamerTV

"Also positive is that the Starter Pack comes with much more than the Lord of the Rings, Batman and Lego Movie levels. Each of the franchises is included from the off with Level packs adding additional content. This gives players a taste of each franchise universe before investing more money in the full set of levels."

Well, the NFC bases are printed with character-specific iconography, which makes them nice little display bases even if you don't play the game, and I suppose there'll be people who treat those bases as sort of deluxe equivalents of the black 3x4 tiles with four studs that come with the blind-bagged Minifigures.

I think the three characters themselves - minus accessories - are identical to versions found in other sets, but Wyldstyle does have her two-piece scanning / tracking device, as seen in The LEGO Movie, and it uses a printed 1x2 tile that's unique to this set. It's a noteworthy accessory / piece of equipment that's closely associated with one of the major characters of the movie / theme, and one she's seen using briefly but quite prominently in that one scene. Diehard The LEGO Movie completists will certainly want that printed tile (ironically, in the actual film it appears to be a sticker).

That gets me thinking. Since the chips are the only piece that contains the character unlock, I wonder if people will buy sets and then just sell the chips separate and keep the minifigures if they don't have a system to play the game or any interest in playing? I'm sure there will indeed be some people who part these sets out, just like any other set, and it'll probably go both ways (i.e., some will be players of the game who don't care about having the "correct" figures, and some will be non-players who just want some but not all of the parts, and/or want to sell parts off to make money). I don't think most people will do that, though; it'll be kind of a niche.

The gameplay we've seen has confirmed that, but just2good confirmed this a while ago.

It may just be a hint that Dimensions is coming, similar to dinosaur in the end of Batman 3 credits, though I wouldn't be surprised if they put JP characters in.

That's certainly possible. I'll say it's suspicious that JP characters found it rather than JW characters. If they had no intention of including JP characters than this tease is both misleading and cruel.

Yes. You will see both the figures sold individually, likely for $15, as well as the stands with the game data, probably around $5. People will sell them and people will buy them, it's inevitable.

Standard prices for everything (in the US):

Starter Pack - $99.99

Level Pack - $29.99

Team Pack - $24.99

Fun Pack - $14.99

Cheers Blondie-Wan, so converting that into pounds makes it around £62.00, which seems very reasonable.

Indeed, though as I'm sure you know all too well, US prices aren't good reflections of the rest of the world's prices most of the time, and I don't know what yours will be. Apologies for not addressing that earlier - when I made my previous post I was looking at the mobile version of the site, which doesn't show all the info (like "Country") below user avatars.
