Then later, partway through the Wizard of Oz section, it completely froze up the WiiU. Had to force the system to power down.

Every single LEGO game I've played has had this happen. I'm playing around minding my own business, when: BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP......and game is frozen and I have to unplug the system. I don't know why it happens.

Bought this for WiiU. I was surprised by the issues we've had...

Granted, my boys were impatient and didn't want to wait the estimated 19 minutes to let the game update when we first started it up. So we went straight in, not realizing that there was a GAME BREAKING BUG 5 minutes into the game! If you don't update, and you remove Batman from the portal at any time, then it'll never let you build the Batmobile. So you're stuck there forever. I had to google and found out it was a bug and to let the game update. There also were differences between the onscreen instructions for building the portal and the printed booklet. Dunno if those were fixed in the patch or not.

And then annoyingly, when you installed the patch, and loaded your "stuck" saved game, it restarted the game and you have to sit through those non-skippable cutscenes introducing the characters and redo the beginning of the game.

Then later, partway through the Wizard of Oz section, it completely froze up the WiiU. Had to force the system to power down.

Just seems like a bit of polish was missing from the usual Lego standards... but the figs and game still seem awesome. I'm sure we'll have a blast with it!

No offence but that kind of sounds like your fault for not updating the game.

I've finished the Story Campaign, and it was very good overall. I did feel there was an excess of Boss Battles (You fought Vortech some five or six times), but the meshing of dimensions/properties was very good. I think the best/most fun level was perhaps the Dr. Who one, which sits in the middle of the story. It was very heart-pounding, and the Weeping Angels added a game feature not seen before (lights going out, time limit etc.). Worst Level for me was the Midway Arcade. I was born in the 90's, so none of that old computer stuff was doing anything for me, especially the Dungeon Maze level which was so terrible I basically cheated and used the spectacular power of the Witch of the West to fly over the maze, skip the ghosts and Minotaurs (which you seriously needed to hit like 30 times to kill, and there was literally hundreds of them--other shadow creatures I think were impossible to kill), and jump to the end. It was so awful.

Granted, if you are just using the Starter Pack (As I was, with the exception of the Oz Pack), it can get monotonous towards the end. You use the same characters for everything, and at the end the same puzzle types, while always seeing things you cannot do without some other character you don't have. One of the very noticeable downsides of a Toys to Life game, for Lego, is the fact that there's no character collecting. You have to buy the individual characters to add them in game, and even then the roster is nothing like the 100+ characters we are normally accustomed to. In the 'old' games, you would always see a character and then assume you could later play as them. Not here--although you see Sauron, and Riddler, and Two-Face a lot, don't expect to play as them anytime soon. This I think is an unfortunate downside that contrasts with the standard Lego game formula.

So with just the Starter Pack, the Campaign plays out more like extended Cameos. You see Dr. Who, he talks to you, and then dumps you off on an Adventure that he doesn't take part in. Same with Ghostbusters, Back to the Future, etc. Chell doesn't even appear in a cameo. It's like your just piggy-backing on their worlds but they're not included unless you show some cash to play as them.

Not that the cameos are unwelcome--there are across the board very good ones--but they really make you want to play as that character immediately. That being said, after the Campaign there is still the individual worlds, which are very hit or miss. Oz is just spectacular, it's so amazing--the music, the colors, the everything including Kansas. Middle Earth too is very nice, but it starts to come off as more of the same, even though it's a vastly condensed map than the one from the other Middle Earth games/maps (and geographically, it's seriously screwed up). On the absolute miss is Gotham...or Metropolis...or supposed Atlantis (I couldn't find that, but apparently you can get to it somehow). They meshed together what appears to be almost direct copy and paste areas from LB2 and made some horrible hybrid city that is utterly ugly (not in the good Gotham way) and utterly boring. The Lego Movie location too is incredibly boring. An issue with some of the 'mini' open worlds are that they are simply boring, with nothing going on (this was a big problem with LB3). Bricksberg was ghost town.

All of those negatives however don't take away from the fact that I absolutely love the game as a whole. Now I just need to go out and get more packs!

That's a really good point. I always loved hunting for character tokens. However, there's an upside. In the other games, there were always so many new characters in them that weren't available in physical form. Here, the opposite is true-almost all of the new characters are real minifigures!

Oh, it certainly was - but how does a bug THAT bad even get onto the disc version and not fixed long before? Minor, obscure bugs are one thing, or adding features... but bugs so massive, gamebreaking, and hit so many players that they actually make the FAQ on the Dimensions website... that's a whole different thing.

Could be to do with the fact quite a few U.S. players had discovered the bugs yesterday and tweeted the Dimensions Twitter about it.

I dont know if this has been mentioned before. Ive been following this topic quite harsh. However, being a huge Doctor Who fan, offcourse thats where a lot of my attention have been pointed at.

Ive just now found out through one of the many Doctor Who channels, that Missy have been laying voice to the LEGO Dimension game. Offcourse we will see her somehow in the expansion ( Spoiler ) since she wasnt present in the level of the main game stream.

Being that the game will have a 3 years layout, it might be possible that we might get her as a fun or theme pack lateron. Whats your thoughts on that ?

Who ever was the reason for Portal being included in this is a god! I have the level pack and it is FANTASTIC! It is just like playing Portal but in Lego, I really hope we get more Potal Lego because I really want a Glados and Whetley!

Wait, she's not in the starter pack level?

That sucks. I assumed that every cast member they announced for the game would get a role in the main campaign. It would be hilarious to see Batman take on Missy; she's the one character connected to this game who would fit into the Batman universe quite naturally!

Okay, I totally need this game and everything associated with it. I'll need every add-on pack because I would hate to miss any of the gameplay experience. I probably wont' be able to get the proper game for a while, maybe Christmas, but I'll be collecting packs in the meantime. One other thing I like about this game is that it may be difficult and expensive, but it'll be possible to experience everything, since there's no Wii U-incompatible DLC!

Some possible news on the new franchise front!

Karen Strassman confirmed on her Facebook page that she provided a voice for Lego Dimensions. It's possible that she voiced a character for whom they didn't get the original voice actor, like characters from Ninjago or Chima. But she has also voiced actual Lego characters in media before—Natalie Breez from Hero Factory (unlikely, since that theme has been discontinued since last year) and Olivia from Lego Friends (a much more likely prospect). Of course, if she's doing voice work for a franchise that has not been shown yet, it's equally possible that it's for another future franchise. We don't know what sort of voice talent might be used for Bionicle or Nexo Knights in their respective series next year, so she could be reprising a role from either of those.

I'm (kind of) doing the same but not buying a whole load of packs. I've pre-ordered the Doctor Who Cyberman set and I'll probably get either the Jurassic World team pack or The Simpsons level pack when I next go to a LEGO Store but those will probably be the only ones I'll buy/pre-order before I've got the game.

NEWS from Brazil

Lego Dimensions is cancelled by WB games.

The economy in Brazil is, at the moment, completely unstable. WB just cancelled all the pre-orders and the release of the game.

I am trying to contact the Lego Brazil to check this information.

That is for all of you, folks, who believe in left parties like brazilian Labour´s Party, from Lula da Silva and his gang, with their beautiful speech of "erradicate the hungry". Yes, they erradicate the poverty of their fellows and others from latin america....

We are in a complete whirlpool, the ratio between real/dollar felt more than 60% in one year.

thank God I will be in America in 2 weeks, so I will buy it there.

Really excited for Doctor Who level...can't play it....games still broken....

But, the game will strangely let me play through all the Adventure Worlds, which is strange. Huh.

I agree on the Middle Earth thing. It looks really good, but it's kind of hard to travel through and the fan in me was outraged that they put Minas Tirith next-door to the Shire! Gotham/Metropolis does look terrible, and there are holes everywhere in the ground so I'm always falling through holes and landing in the water. It's not really fair that those of who aren't planning on getting an expansion dude that can fly to have Cloud Cuckoo Land in such a place where you can't reach it. They could have at least placed the rainbow bridge-thingy.

I just want to play the levels! :'(

What about Angry Birds as a future theme, since we are getting Angry Birds Lego sets in 2016 to go with the movie?

I thought about that, but Angry Birds will be a one-off theme, and the movie will probably last for a very short time in the public mind.

Wait, how is the Doctor Who level accessible when the pack to unlock it isn't in the first wave?

Posted

To access all of the content in the game, you need 1 minifigure from each of the 14 themes.

... three of which won't have releases until later. Doctor Who gets its first pack in November, Ghostbusters in January, and Midway Arcade in March.

Am I the only one who is bothered that the lego world isn't made out of bricks but just generic 3d models with textures?

It's always been like that, with the exception of the bonus levels and The LEGO Movie universe. Perhaps TT weren't able to render everything in bricks, or it was too distracting?
