Tariq j Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 (edited) With all due respect LegoDalekBuster523, but I think I know what the problem is here. Everyone else is saying that whilst Doctor Who is undoubtedly popular amongst Dimensions Fans, there are other franchises fuelling the game. Where as you're thinking there's some fantasy land where every single Dimensions fan is craving for every single Doctor Who character to be made. I would like to see more Doctor Who packs, and I'm sure lots of other people to do. But a game like Dimensions can't survive on one franchise alone... The profits of the car brand Mercedes do not depend on one car alone. And the same logic applies here. Edited January 31, 2016 by Tariq j Quote
Blondie-Wan Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 We basically know Chima, BTTF, LOTR, Portal, JW, DW, Wizard of Oz, Scooby-Doo, Simpsons and Midway Arcade have done as much as they can at this point. I'm not convinced of that, actually. I can certainly see further potential in most of those. Quote
PenPlays Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 We basically know Chima, BTTF, LOTR, Portal, JW, DW, Wizard of Oz, Scooby-Doo, Simpsons and Midway Arcade have done as much as they can at this point. If I may: -Chima: Yes. It's no longer relevant and next to no other characters matter. -BTTF: Yes. As cools as it would be to have more from this license, we have our main characters/vehicles. Any others wouldn't be as eye-catching -LOTR: No/Yes. We need villain packs, Lego, and we need them ASAP, but most of the more active characters in the story have been made into packs aside from, say Boromir and Aragorn. There is very little aside from that (except the villains). -Portal: Yes. As fun as an Atlas and Peabody set would be would be, would they be considered minifigs themselves? Or would they be considered builds (no other minifigs could really accompany them, though). -Jurassic World: Yes. A dinosaur, a vehicle and Owen are all kids would need from that series. Now if the series would move into Jurassic Park sets... -Dr. Who: Yes. As fun as it would be to have more characters from that series, there is only so much that could be done in the regards to vehicles and gadgets. -Wizard of Oz: No. The five main characters are absolutely necessary, and why Lego hasn't spoken a word on it is crazy. It's just a matter of what builds would accompany them -Scooby Doo: Yes. Iconic vehicle and characters are all that would sell. Secondary characters would be fun, but wouldn't sell as good without either Scooby or Shaggy included. -Simpsons: Yes. Out of the main/iconic characters, all who should be available are available. Would you really want to play as Marge or Mr. Burns? Builds that would coincide with them is also an issue. -Midway Arcade: No/Yes. There are several characters, as well as Arcade Cabinets that would do well. However, what will be available is all that's really necessary. Regarding future themes, I really hope that we get more information on what will be arriving in the future soon. Waiting until E3 would be too far of a wait. Quote

Secondary characters would be fun, but wouldn't sell as good without either Scooby or Shaggy included. ATLAS and P-Body are represented by battle-droid-like robot figures in their two brief appearances, so it's likely that they could be made as minifigures with new molds. For Wizard of Oz, though, I wonder what each character could possibly do gameplay-wise. Dorothy, the Lion, and the Tin Woodman are fairly mundane characters in terms of ability. Perhaps Dorothy could come with a water bucket and use Toto as a drone, but the others...? Quote
BlueberryWaffles Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 I would say Simpsons has more potential, but in its current state (no voices except Homer) the future looks bleak. Speaking of future... The realistic part of me says there's nothing else to do for BTTF, but the BTTF nerd in me desperately wants more. Lego, give me Biff, Lorraine, George, Clara, Jules, Verne, Jennifer, Einstein, Libyan Terrorist, Clock Tower Lady, Griff, Marty Junior, Seamus McFly, and Maggie McFly or I demand a refund! Quote
temes Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 I think all the unannounced packs will be brand new themes, no more additional stuff to the current themes. Quote
Mattah12 Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 (edited) If not more LOTR, how about Bilbo in a Hobbit set? And perhaps and expansion to the LOTR adventure world? I would really enjoy that. EDIT - A recent observation I made: Having played a number of Lego games previously, I found Dimensions simple to pick up and play. However when my partner tried the game out, there was no initial control tutorial. There were those breakable prompt boxes to help you find the portal pieces, but nothing that told you the simple controls i.e. X to Jump, Square to attack etc. Edited February 1, 2016 by Mattah12 Quote
8BrickMario Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 (edited) I think all the unannounced packs will be brand new themes, no more additional stuff to the current themes. I believe at least one franchise is supposed to be expanded, so I hope that's not true. If LEGO gets a new license, they should use it. For Oz, I had some more ideas. Tin Woodman would be able to chop down vines, and Dorothy could use Slipper Spots to teleport to a hidden area in the level, like the TARDIS and DeLorean. Scarecrow and Lion, though... Any others wouldn't be as eye-catching From a gameplay perspective, absolutely, although from the physical LEGO perspective, we've only barely scratched the surface of the franchise. It's tough to see other characters bringing much to the game that's not there already, but we could really use a few more major characters for our physical creations. -Simpsons: Yes. Out of the main/iconic characters, all who should be available are available. Would you really want to play as Marge or Mr. Burns? Well, yeah, actually. Marge would be great, as would Lisa. It's really bizarre and unfortunate that they passed over Marge, Lisa and Maggie to have Krusty (!), who isn't even a Simpson and is a much less important character. Not that i begrudge having him; I just think Marge and Lisa, at the very least, should have gotten prioritized over him. I hate to say it, but when the whole freaking franchise is named after a central family whose core members are 60% female, yet they exclude all the female members while include all the male ones plus another, less important background character (who's also male), it reeks of just plain old sexism. It's a shame, too, because Lisa in particular could be really great to play as. Quote

I'm not sure about all those Ninjago & Chima characters, but there's 4 females in Wave 1 (Chell, Wonder Woman, Eris, Wicked Witch) and one in Wave 2 (Unikitty). 5 females, 36 males (waves 1-5). Quote

8BrickMario Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 That's her finishing move. While I'd adore minifigures of the heroes, Dorothy is the only one I can justify gameplay-wise. I fear a Ghosbusters situation, with only Dorothy being sold to give access to the whole team. Quote
Blondie-Wan Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 Is it because of the old argument that female characters won't sell well in terms of the audience Lego Dimensions is intended for might I ask? One would think, though, that they'd try to garner as large an audience as they could, rather than targeting one segment. This game's biggest competition in the marketplace is probably Disney Infinity, and that game has a lot more female characters available; I suspect that helps it draw girls as well as boys. In the first five waves of LEGO Dimensions (including the Starter Packs), there are 44 playable characters - 8 female, 36 male. I don't know that there necessarily needs to be a perfect balance or anything like it, but so far female characters don't even make up one out of every five - they're fewer than 20% of the total. I think Warner and TLG can do better than that - at least get them to double digits. Note I'm not suggesting they cut the number of male characters; I just think it would be great if they offered more female ones. It would probably help expand the audience for the game. Quote

But yeah it is a shame that there isn't that many female characters in there then we should and I've just checked yeah there's a lot of female characters for Disney Infinity I'd say it's far too early to say if we'll get any new female characters so we'll wait and see what happens. 8BrickMario Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 I've discovered a great little skill game to play: The Portal Rocket Jump! Basically, it takes advantage of the physics of falling into a portal and jumping out of one above, using a pair of portal tiles behind Burns' mansion. Instead of using the momentum to land on the black Aperture platforms, stay airborne and fall toward the bottom portal again and again. f you aim well enough, you should hit the ceiling of the world's boundary sphere after a few falls. mediumsnowman Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 I got Emmet and Wicked Witch today at the Lego store, seeing as they had marked them down to $7.49 as well. The Oz world is great and I just couldn't wait until Bane to get the drill ability. Next I'm thinking about JW team pack, Scooby team pack, or Portal level pack. All three unlock new abilities and a new adventure world. Which one offers the best gameplay experience? Quote

Vindice Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 Why? The Sontarans and Silurians are much more recognisable than Hans Moleman. I'm not a Doctor Who fan and I can honestly say I have no idea who most of these people are. They wouldn't be recognisable to me or my kids or my brother and his kids. I do know who Hans Moleman is though and even a pack of him wouldn't sell. The only recognisable Doctor Who characters to those who aren't fans are most likely Daleks, K-9, Cybermen and some of the Doctors. The tardis is a recognisable "vehicle". If I were TLG I would be looking at a major theme to launch at the end of the year. Needs to be relevant too. I doubt they will be able to do Star Trek unfortunately but why not think big. James Bond perhaps? It has to be something that ordinary lego fans would really like to see in lego form and something big enough and relevant enough to compete with SW and Marvel super heroes. That doesn't leave a whole lot of choices, they can't keep surviving on novelty themes. Quote

All three unlock new abilities and a new adventure world. Which one offers the best gameplay experience? Difficult to answer without knowing what you want out of the game. Out of those 3, Scooby has the best adventure world, it’s cartoony look is delightful. Portals world is very good, but feels a bit more serious. Jurassic is my least favourite of all the Aw’s, mainly because of the lack of Dino’s!. Portal offers the extra level, and it’s one of the best! It offers game play variety that makes it distinctly different to the other levels and Chells gun is brilliant! Of the characters, Chell is totally unique and I doubt that any further releases will give access to her gun. I think Owen is the only character that can cut vines and the Gyrosphere has a totally unique switch ability. Scooby has underwater tracking which is unique. But Shaggy and Scooby are two of the most fun characters in the game! Of the builds, bits keep dropping off the raptor and the gyro has a better in game presence than its build. Portals turret is a great build and the cube has a unique switch ability, used with Chells gun. Scooby snack is basic but Mystery Machine is great and build 3 has hazard clean ability, so you won’t need Krusty if you can’t wait for Aquaman. Personally, I’d get Portal, if only for the extra value of another level and Chell nostalgia! But you will have fun running round with Scooby if you go for that. Quote
Starscream759 Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 Just got the Joker and Harley Quinn Team Pack and while I know they aren't gonna unlock anything new I thought I'd come them for variety and also come on it's The Joker and Harley Quinn. How can I not pass up that opportunity to have them in my roster, eh? Quote
8BrickMario Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 I enjoy the cartoonish look of the Scooby-Doo world, but to be honest, that's all I think it has going for it. The Simpsons world is pretty fun, as is Aperture Science if you're fine with getting lost. Quote

I was going to give a one-word answer: Portal. But really, your answer is completely on-point, in my opinion. I own all of these, and I agree with pretty much everything you've said, with one difference: I wasn't a Portal fan before I got LEGO Dimensions, but I sure as heck am now! I even went back to my Xbox 360 and bought the old Portal game. I love GLaDOS! So delightfully wicked. And her song at the end of the main story (Dimensions) was hilarious and sad and amazing. Just got the Joker and Harley Quinn Team Pack and while I know they aren't gonna unlock anything new I thought I'd come them for variety and also come on it's The Joker and Harley Quinn. How can I not pass up that opportunity to have them in my roster, eh? Yeah, I picked this one up because it only cost a little bit more than buying the old Harley Quinn minifig, one I've always wanted. Playing as her in-game is just an added bonus!
