eurotrash Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 Old Chinese Pharmacy My Lego town has undergone a bit of a rebuild - most of the official Modulars have been recycled back into inventory and the Chinatown district is expanding. So, here's a 16-wide build of a Pharmacy. I wanted an ornate facade with plenty of details, but I also wanted some decay and cracked masonry. The roof tile color is taking some getting used to, but it's definitely growing on me. Here's a close up of the details of the entrance door. The Ground floor has an interior But it's best seen without the rear and sidewalls. There are cabinets with drawers, decanters filled with strange liquids, a massive potted plant in the corner, and crystals. One final shot of the front. It's a quick fun build and I'm happy with the results (even the roof color) Comments, criticism and ridicule most welcome! Quote
lightningtiger Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 AWESOME modular 'dr_spock', looks perfect......makes me want to have a cup of herbal tea ! Brick On 'dr_spock' ! Quote
AirborneAFOL Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 Eurotrash - remarkable, on par with most of your great works. Dare I offer a critique? The second floor facade looks a bit 'flat'. Have you considered perhaps rail pieces where those white plates are (just beneath each row of windows) - either keeping with the white, or possibly even red? My (purely subjective) sense is just a bit of depth that would create would go a long ways. Quote

Thanks LT, but those herbal teas you've been drinking have made you confuse dr_spock with me The second floor facade looks a bit 'flat'. Have you considered perhaps rail pieces where those white plates are (just beneath each row of windows) - either keeping with the white, or possibly even red? Good call AirborneAFOL. I'll make that change when I get my BL order in to fix the roof color - I'm thinking Sand Green. Quote
AirborneAFOL Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 Do they make element 4107761 'Plate with Slide' in sand green? (I mistakenly referred to it as a rail plate - either we're thinking of different elements or I'm gonna be thrilled they exist in SG!) Quote
Kristel Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 This is great! Love the entrance, the SNOT work on the upper floor and the drawer units. The lime is a bit much! Quote
notaromantic Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 I like everything about this, except for the outside photography. It just seems so out of its element. I don't know that I'd ever be admiring anything LEGO outside. It just doesn't allow me to get cozy with or within it. (And yes, I did consider LEGOLAND as being an example of something Lego that I would be admiring outdoors. But, ya'll know what I mean.) The lime and Dark Bley roof is cool. And the log bricks turned sideways used as a masonry effect is really impressing me. I generally cannot stand to use those log bricks, and thus give them away to the young LEGO-er's that I know. But the way you've used them here gives me new promise for them. Quote
cgarison Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 Another wonderful build. These builds are just more encouragement for me to start some Chinatown type builds. Quote

Was it the Blue Pig bath in the background?, or the Winter-ravaged bare trees? I take all of my stuff outside, because I don't have enough space inside. And the log bricks turned sideways used as a masonry effect is really impressing me. I generally cannot stand to use those log bricks. I had a whole bunch left over from an earlier (failed) project. They're difficult to use in quantity. but I was running out of regular Tan bricks so I decided to use just the edges. I kinda like it. This entire build was a scrap build from inventory hence some of the color choices (Yay! Lime Green roof!) Another wonderful build. These builds are just more encouragement for me to start some Chinatown type builds. Do it! Chinatown is such a rich theme and style to build in - and with the Palace Theatre and Detective Office there's already two close enough with mods to start with. I think my first was the Chu Nail Salon http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=98216 but whatever you build remember to share it here with us. Quote
gazumpty Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 Nice work...love the lime green roof :) and your upper floor façade is brilliantly put together! Quote
Still Raindrop Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 Very cool! I'm in the process of designing a Chinese restaurant to go next to my Detective's Office, and this certainly inspires me--great to see these techniques! Quote

Like you just can't wait to get it back inside, or to cover it up before the elements take to it. And I suppose the gray skies in the background just make it all the more a hurry to do so. I don't know how long you had it outside for pictures, but didn't you feel that way with it while it was out there? Does anyone leave their LEGO outside - for too long, or at all? (Beside those people taking photos for Craigslist, of course...Don't tell me you were taking photos for Craigslist and decided to slip in the MOC while you were there; lol.) And I like the brown furniture by the way. Edited March 23, 2015 by notaromantic Quote
eurotrash Posted March 23, 2015 Author Posted March 23, 2015 Ha. Ha. No, I don't know, LEGO outside just fees "naked" somehow. LOL! Pants-free Brick, that's going to be my new superhero name. Anyway, virtually all my stuff is taken outside. Sometimes it works really well Sometimes you've got to watch for those really long shadows Sometimes you discover an insect has walked onto your MOC http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=83562 But it's always different. Try it and embrace the outside And I like the brown furniture by the way. Cheers, it was a quick fun build. Sometimes it's just nice to build without anything specific in mind and without a deadline to meet. Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 I love your MOCs Eurotrash and your beautiful original idea! But I have also a secret: I really love your pictures with the natural background Quote
ReplicaProfile Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 I love the way you simulate dilapidation in some of your builds; makes them that much more realistic and aesthetically pleasing! Quote
