yeah but as stated earlier i would buy any jedi temple if they made one..

i agree that the empire could use some more ships. but hey TIE this and TIE that it would be cool with some more figs i agree with that.

be patience and hopefully we will get some diversity in empire ships when "Rebels" finally air. i know it is not OT but lets pray they come up with some cool stuff and everybody will be happy.

the rebs used Z-95's aswell as the empire so technically some of the starships made would double as imperial ships

I would love to get a Revenge of the Sith 501st battle pack.

totally

okay so maybe we are up for some of that with rebels.

like the z-95 for the figs and the "missile thing" not sure what its called. something about the looks of the cockpit from a side view kind of bugs me. but a cool black imperial update would not be bad

it's an easy custom unit. you can change it however you want really and use it for any army and unit

What about the TIE Phantom and Avenger.

LEGO almost never makes sets based on the Expanded Universe, and when they do, it's usually a tie-in for a videogame like the Old Republic or the Force Unleashed. I doubt that with a whole new trilogy to explore they'd waste their time on a vehicle that never appeared in the films. Just my thinking though...

...Which is what I said. Those two ships did not appear in the films, therefore they are from the expanded universe. That was my argument. To expound, I think it would be apt to say that most kids these days don't know what a TIE Avenger or TIE Phantom is. And with a new trilogy on the horizon, LEGO is only going to focus on the most iconic ships and scenes from the films (i.e. NOT from the expanded universe).

but maybe they would show up in "Rebels" and all of the sudden not be expanded universe any more:)

i know it would be pretty easy to make the z-95 imperial but i care about keeping my collection original. only adding extra figs - standard troops: phase 1 clones, battle droids and stormtroopers so far

I'd quite like a new AT-AT if there isnt a new snowspeeder any time soon.

Well, the latest snowspeeder was in 2013 with 75014 Battle of Hoth?! You can hardly complain there :look:

Posted

I want a larger snowspeeder than the ones that come with the play sets, about the size of the £50 Xwings. A bit like the old UCS snowspeeder I guess, but smaller.

I suspect a MOC might be my best chance though

I see what you mean. Though I can hardly imagine TLG releasing a set like that in 50-100 mark range. A re-run or another UCS (or "UCS") like they did with the X-wing - possibly, but I seriously doubt they'll ever release a stand-alone large system set...

Posted (edited)

Like I said before, the current scale is quite accurate and could probably only be sold for $30 by itself. A UCS set would be sold for $200 like the X-Wing (since that seems to be the new standard) and I don't know of any scale between system and UCS... And is there any room for one? So far we have:

  • Micro (Advent Calendar)
  • Mini (Planets, Polybag, and '03-'04 line)
  • Midi ('09 Falcon and Star Destroyer)
  • System
  • UCS
  • True Minifigure ('07 Falcon and '10 Imperial Shuttle)

So, is there a place for a "macro" scale? Now that I'm thinking about it, some fighters might look really cool in this scale. LEGO could include a stand and such... It would probably be limited to smaller fighters (AKA not the Falcon or Star Destroyers) though...

No like they are in the movies but because they mainly focus on the Bombers, fighters, and interceptors you rarely see them

I'm with you there. I've only customed my clones, stormtrooper, snow troopers, scout troopers and some pilots but as of 2 years ago I desided not to anymore. but Yeah I hope they can make some converts of the Z-95 for the other armies

Ummm what? Those two ships are video game only. The Tie Avenger is from Tie Fighter and the X Wing / Tie Fighter space sim games. By its own internal lore it was never in any theater of operation that would have put it on screen for the movies. Plus it is basically the "production" version of Darth Vaders Tie Advanced. So not a ton of clear design difference that would justify it as a stand alone subject for a retail product.

The Tie Phantom is from 1996. It post dates even the reworked special editions. So no it did not appear on screen, nor can it even be implied to be just off screen. However you may have some hope there. The Tie Phantom was actually based on some early concept art for the Lambda shuttle. The Rebels show like TCW before it is going back and using a lot of the old concept art as the basis for intermediary designs between the PT and OT. So it may show up there in some form.

We are not going to see many (any) EU designs that don't have some cross media tie in. Be it a TV show or heavily pushed game. The Tie Defender did horribly. And the other game tie ins have been so so at best. Tie Crawler anyone? Rogue Shadow? And how well are the Republic Striker and Defender doing? I think the only one that did moderately well was the Sith Fury. And then only because it's Imperial Tie type Herritage really shone through. Our only real hope for some of the obscure non movie ships we love will be if they get recycled into some other presentation. Much like the way the E Wing showed up as a Yoda Chronicles ship, or the Z95 and armored Y Wing came in via TCW.

I wouldn't expect a lot of EU experimentation going forward. There is too much in the way of new stuff looming in the background as it is.

- Rebels TV show. Expect lots of new and variant ships.

- New movies. Figure we have 18 months before some of the new stuff from those start trickling out.

- SWTOR, if they do any EU stuff it will probably be a new player star fighter from this game to correspond with the games space fighter expansion pack. Good news is that would probably be a Sith Fighter which is kinda Tie'ish.

- Star Wars Battlefront. EA Is making a big new AAA Battlefront game. Disney Lucas might opt to have Lego make a tie in. If so it would probably be a ground vehicle. Just given the nature of the game.

- TCW. There is a planned release of the final TCW story arcs in early 2014. Once again Disney may have some sort of tie in to capitalize on those (although less likely).

With all of this we will be lucky to see much PT and OT stuff for the next few release waves.

The first appearance of the TIE Phantom was in Star Wars: Rebel Assault II: The Hidden Empire and the first appearance of the TIE Avenger was in Star Wars: TIE Fighter, both released after the original trilogy. The only variants seen in the films are the TIE Fighter, TIE Advanced, TIE Bomber, and TIE Interceptor.

So... what? I'm fairly confused to be honest. Are you saying that they actually appear in the films? Could you take a screencap from the original trilogy and find the Phantom and Avenger in the background? Or has the expanded universe stated that they were in the battles depicted in the films? Because if it's the latter, then like I said before, I highly doubt LEGO will create sets based off of the two fighters. However, if it's the former, then I'd say they're fair game (and I'd wonder why Hasbro, LEGO, or Kenner never created these toys before...).

But I'm almost positive that the TIE Phantom and TIE Avenger never physically appeared in the OT.

Posted (edited)

Since everyone is discussing Tie-fighters and what not, I'm thinking LEGO should be remaking a Tie-Advanced with Darth Vader and an X-Wing fighter with Luke, since after this year, we should be entering the OT sets. I would imagine they would remake some fan favorites, personally I would love to see a remake of the Mos-Eisley cantina set with new Chewbacca and Greedo.

yeah new and cool! x-wing...

something about the previous sets has kept me from buying them despite how iconic it is.

the dagobah yoda hut was a cool idea so id be pleased to buy my first x-wing with an update of that set.. (not counting the one from the yavin-4 planet set)

Posted

OT yoda should be brought back to the future... of the 2013 ones i like the clone wars one better than the PT one. an "original" yoda would be awesome and about time for an update

An X-Wing with a Yoda hutt set is definitely overdue. I actually like the 2013 Yoda fig, its not great in pictures, but having it in your hands makes a huge difference. The yoda hutt I would think would be released in early 2015 since it appears LEGO is basing there sets by movie count.
