Bregir Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 (edited) CHARGE! Warzone 2: "Battle for the Reservoir", G12 The pumping stations of the Flagg Reservoir are of great strategic importance, and the High Council have made them a prioritized target. The Aquaduct by Beorthan, on Flickr While Beorthan is ambushing Desert King Troops in the Arkbri Valley, his friend sir William Drake has led the main force of the Trifork towards the Flagg Reservoir. Flee! by Beorthan, on Flickr Upon reaching one of the pumping stations, they come accross an occupying troop of Ulandian mercenaries. Unprepared and outnumbered, they are quickly routed as Drake orders the charge and the might of Trifork falls upon them. "For the Republic, the People, and Kaliphlin!" The Charge by Beorthan, on Flickr This pumping station is located in one of the streams supplying the Flagg Reservoir with water, and the steady flow of the stream drives a waterwheel, which in turn drives the pumping mechanism. The water is then pumped into the two-level aquaduct for close and distant destinations, respectively. _______________________________________________________________ My entry to warzone 2. This warzone has really spawned a great number of amazing builds! Keep up the good work! My entry to Warzone 2: Battle for the Reservoir in the Kaliphlin civil war. If I get a say in the matter by this build, I'd like D3 to be the next war zone. Edited March 22, 2015 by Bregir Quote
LittleJohn Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 Excellent build, Bregir! I really like the striping of dark red, and that you made it two levels tall Quote
Lord Vladivus Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 Nice build- the red stripes are great! Quote
Kai NRG Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 As has been mentioned, the dark red strips are really nice! I also like the shaping on the arches, Quote
Maxim I Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 Sweet aquaduct!!! I like the differences in the terrain and also the posing is very nice!! Great job Bregir!! For the Republic!! Quote
Adair Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 While the architecture looks a bit bland, I like the waterwheel! Great job! Long live the Republic! Quote
Blufiji Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 Great job, especially with the figure posing. Quote
Captain Braunsfeld Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 Great build. I think picture #3 captures it best. Quote
Bregir Posted March 23, 2015 Author Posted March 23, 2015 (edited) Excellent build, Bregir! I really like the striping of dark red, and that you made it two levels tall Thanks, LJ! I think white and that dark red go really well together! And since many aquaducts have more than one level of arches, I figured to make them both useful for transporting water! Nice build- the red stripes are great! Thank you, my lord As has been mentioned, the dark red strips are really nice! I also like the shaping on the arches, Nice to hear, Kai - I actually quite like those arches too. The curve of those middle eastern arches continues nicely into the smaller 1x4 arches. Sweet aquaduct!!! I like the differences in the terrain and also the posing is very nice!! Great job Bregir!! For the Republic!! Glad you noticed the Terrain, Maxim - I quite like that too! And I actually think the posing is the best part of this build - so thanks!! The enemies of The Republic may already get used to defeat, retreat and flight - The High Council is not to be trifled with!! While the architecture looks a bit bland, I like the waterwheel! Great job! Long live the Republic! Glad you like the waterwheel - It's a modified version of the one from MMV, and although I would have liked it to be more submerged, I think it turned out nicely. I see what you mean about the architecture being a bit bland, especially the tower. However, I generally prefer the cleaner look, as I find too much greebling makes it look somewhat unrealistic. I mean, this is probably a new building (Made by Flagg recently) and not exactly ornamental in nature. It is rather functional, so it would be build with simple techniques. Some texturing of the walls would probably have been good, though. Long live the Republic: Hip hip Hurrah! Great job, especially with the figure posing. Thanks - I think I captured the fleeing orcs quite well! Great build. I think picture #3 captures it best. Thanks, CB. It gives the most overview, and view to the most details, but I think the second one shows the most action Edited March 23, 2015 by Bregir Quote
robuko Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 Nice build Bregir. The diagonal offset looks great, the architecture is lovely, and the terrain is very nice. There are a few things that stick out a bit for me, and I hope this doesn't seem too critical as you didn't ask for C&C, but I think this build could go to the next level quite easily - the problem with using baseplates is that you end up with layers of colours that don't quite make sense, and there isn't room to put a frame around it. As for the waterwheel, it doesn't touch the water with this design, this could be solved by extending the spokes. Being on a reservoir, there is no obvious reason for it to turn. You could solve this by indicating a stronger directionality of water in the channel. Quote

I see your point about baseplates and borders. While in this build, it isn't too much of a problem, it has been so before. And a border would definitely finish off the build nicely. In the description I do point out, that it is located on a stream supplying the reservoir, but I do see your point about directionality. One of the things I really like about your build for this warzone is the partly submerged waterwheel, which I simply forgot to consider. Further, my current waterwheel design, doesn't lend itself well to submersion Again, thanks for your feedback! It is ALWAYS welcome (Will try to remember to say C&C welcome in future builds. I simply took it as a given.) Quote
soccerkid6 Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 the simplicity of the aqueduct works nicely here, the dark red and dark green bits add some nice color Neat landscape too Quote
