fenris Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 (edited) @skipper: nice shots! yoda perfectly fits into the place. it's amazing, sometimes the are locations for LSW pics where you would have never thought of just close to your home... would be interesting to see a pic of the place where you took your pictures. for outdoor-shots endor-style i alway take a walk in the park close to my home (and i do not care about people thinking i'm a retard with a camera and some lego figs ) the first pic is the best imho. @lonely sotmtrooper somewhere in the desert: good idea! i know the "wind problem". it's really annoying after some time... smokebelch Posted August 19, 2009 Author Posted August 19, 2009 i know the "wind problem". it's really annoying after some time... Hehe- you should hear some of the swearing i've come out with in the past whilst trying to take my sandtrooper shots on a windy day on the beach! Quick shot of the Chrome Stormie- Damn this things shiny! Hard to shoot him with all the reflections, so went for a blue light- have to take him out for some outdoor shots when i get a chance... prateek Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 Woah! That chromie looks awesome under blue light! Quote
JimBee Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 That picture of the chrome stormtooper is by far your very best. That pale blue light from your iPod really brings out the chrome shine... I hope you don't mind if I use it as my desktop background? Quote
KimT Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 Astonishing work on that Chrome Stormie Looks like I've just gotten me a new background (again, again, again...) Quote
smokebelch Posted August 19, 2009 Author Posted August 19, 2009 Thanks Prateek, JimButcher & KimT Glad you like the shot- was only a quick one as i was playing around with the light on it to see how it looked with the reflections! And im only too happy to have people use my shots as wallpaper Quote

fenris Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Hard to shoot him with all the reflections you should have heard me when i was shooting my chrome vader... the last thing you want to see as a reflection is your camera! great work on the chrome-stormie as usual! and thx for reviving this thread a litlle. apparently there are most comments if it's you who posts a new chef d'oeuvre (and i know why - your pics are by far the best!) Thanks. So far all my shots (Yoda, JaJa and Stormies) have been taken in my back garden! I'll be sure to take a pic of it soon and upload it. @Smokebelch: Your new chrome stormie shot looks amazing. the light is reflected very evenly and it just looks great. Quote
Big Cam Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 I love that chrome stormie shot. I have 4, maybe I should open one. Quote
Commander_Rob Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 I definitely like the chrome stormtrooper shot. I could do one of those, I bought myself a chromie from a Lego store. Or rather I can`t. My camera has broken. These are hard times for me. Quote
Rain Jake Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Those are cool, I like the Scout the most Quote
The Who Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 you should have heard me when i was shooting my chrome vader... the last thing you want to see as a reflection is your camera!Maybe for a Chrome Vader it would help if you held up a few pieces of black paper behind the camera, and take the picture at an angle in which the camera is facing a point on the fig with the least refelction, so the camera doesn't show?Hope that helps, if it is at all understandable. Thanks a lot for the idea! Actually, after loosing all what was left of my nervs and beeing really frustrated when I was looking on my shots on my computerscreen and seein myself and the camera on the pics I did something like this but: I took a black paper, cut out the size of the lense and attached it to my pocket cam on the front (I'm sure it's not quite clear what i mean..so ill make a little drawing - worked out pretty well... i've downsized the qualitiy and changed the contrast so that you can see what you shouldn't: my hidden camera: i'll have another go with no little dust things on it... lessons learned from makro-photography... but it was still ahrd to figure out at which angle the stormies will reflect the best... but i like my bath-tube background..smooth and white... legoloco Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 I had some time tonight so I tried to capture a photo that I had been thinking about since I did my ewok photo which appears earlier in this thread. My first attempts back then didn't work out like I wanted them to but I'm happy with what I've got now. Quote

Edited August 22, 2009 by prateek Quote
RileyC Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Cool photo legoloco ! Its a shame that lego hasnt released a Luminara minifig that isnt LUL then your picture would be a lot better cause she could hold it in her right hand and I think that may look better. I really like your glowing lightsaber and would be really interested how you did that. Great picture! Quote
Skipper 24 Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Legoloco your luminara pic is great. I like how you have used the light effectively to illumiante or should that be il-luminara the face. Quote
KimT Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Agreed that Luminara picture is great I am so glad that this topic is here, getting members to share their pictures and techniques is what this place is all about. Quote
legoloco Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 (edited) @ legoloco: How did you make the saber glow? Well I have all 5 of the LUL star wars figures which played a part. I wanted a photo of Luminara holding a regular chrome hilted lightsaber that was glowing but I didn't want to have to photoshop the glow so that meant to me that I needed to use two of the LUL figures. Luminara has a blue LED in her hand as does Mace, they only made blue or red LEDs in the figures. I put the chrome hilt in her good hand and tilted it at the angle I wanted it to make across her face, I attached the other end of the lightsaber blade (which the camera doesn't show) to the LED hand of the Mace figure. I then made a little base out of some long plates and attached Luminara's legs to it then I built up a little platform off to her right just outside the view of the camera lens. I attached Mace's legs to that, he was bent at the waist a bit but they were both stationary and attached to each other by the single lightsaber blade. Then all I needed to do was put the assembly in front of my camera / tripod setup so I had the image framed as I wanted and I pressed down on Mace's head to use his LED to light the lightsaber. My camera was set to manual focus and I have an electronic remote cable release (its a Canon EOS 30D). I had the camera set to full manual exposure so I took enough test shots at various shutter speeds so that the glow of the lightsaber wasn't too overpowering in the photo. @Roncanator: I do hope they eventually make a normal Luminara figure, she is one of my favorite Lego SW figures and I've got about all of them minus the newest ones or the chromed ones. smokebelch Posted August 22, 2009 Author Posted August 22, 2009 Very cool shot legoloco , love the effect with the sabre- great idea and nicely executed! You should try red light. It might even look better. Funny you should say that When shooting the shot i tried a couple of diff coloured lights- liked blue best but thought id do something with the others as well, and put all three into one shot Quote
