Smokebelch, hi there! I was looking at this topic very often to look out for new pics from you, I simply love them! Just one question though - do you have Indy figs and would you also like to make the one or other shot of him? cheers

EDIT: or just mix SW with Indy? I guess it would be some funny images!

@all: thx for feedback :thumbup:

@ booger540:

1st pic: what's wrong with the head?

3rd pic: YES: it's a symbolic photo... dedicated to all who served (the imperial troops...)

@ roncanator: this missprint came alon with my "skull stormies" -> see earlier in this thread. but it has kind of a "battle-used touch"

@ smokebelch: 1st one with the atat driver is great! the "dark side"... i take plenty of shots too..but too often i see details when it's too late to change anything...

chrome vader is nice too... tried some more shots with stormies reflecting on his helmet..har to do... so small and you often see the camera reflecting...

new "pic": last weekend i came across some acryl-colors...

grand moff makes a guided tour through the imperial museum of art....

this is my first painting since school.. so, obviously i'm NOT an artist but i'm quite happy with it...

I`m back from holidays and I must say, I am truly amazed by what has been going on here, a lot of cool pictures here.

Anyway, here are some that I took:

Jango vs. Mace

4138348451_75967a4af9_o.jpg

Not a perfect shot but on that day the wind was incredibly strong, the figs kept on falling over.

Special Operations Clonetrooper under the scorching sun of a desert planet (actually a beach, like all my pictures with sand backgroud).

Was harder to take than it looks, I actually dug a hole into the ground to take this one, long story...

Comments appreciated.

I am fond of Tatooine pictures (Especially Tusken ones :sweet: )

I second the motion! Please bring back the good 'ol Tuskens. The stormies are great, but you can't beat a shot made by Smokebelch of a nice Tusken Raider out in the dunes.

Feel free to insert your own joke about them smelling bad on the outside

Stunning, stunning photos. I am an amateur photographer myself.

I'm curious, for your solo fig pics (like above quoted) where they are not outdoors, are you using a lightbox??

If so any chance you'd share a pic of it. :classic:

Thanks Big Cam, you should post some of your shots up here- be cool to see em

My indoor shots are not done with a lightbox- though i do keep meaning to make one!

Here's a few posts from the beginning of the thread in regard to how i light most of my indoor shots- its pretty low-tech :classic:

I used to be the same with indoor pics- could never get good results. Always used to favour outdoor shots, with some good daylight you could get some fantastic shots with little effort on your part with regards to the lighting.

Could never get the results i wanted indoors. I've got a very small flat and dont have room for a specific area for photography, and dont have any special lights/ reflectors etc. Flash shots always came out looking awful as well.

A few of my early attempts i used candles and a long exposure, which gave some nice moody pictures but not quite what i was after with some shots.

Was getting frustrated over the winter as couldn't get outdoors cause of the weather and wanted to take some indoor pics...

Then had a bit of a ureka moment!- you prob wont believe it but i actually use my I-pod touch to light pretty much all my indoor shots. Remembered there was a torch application you could download for it which just gives out a nice adjustable and clean light. Usually have the camera on a 4 second exposure and about f8 on the appature and obviously the camera either on a flat surface/tripod. Then just hold the ipod and i'll snap away- because im up really close as lego figs are so small it lights em beautifully. Takes a bit of experimenting with how close/ what direction to hold the light, but thats the beauty of digital, you can takes loads of shots and just delete the bad ones. Will change the postion of the ipod from shot to shot so you can adjust reflection/ light direction etc.

99% of the time i'll just use a plain white piece of A4 paper as a backdrop- you can get some good shadows/ colour in the plain paper with the direction of the light.

If you have a look at my photostream on flickr all my recent indoor shots are lit this way (its all toys, but as non-lego i wont post em here- link in my sig), its got different colours as well so the blue/red tinted ones up are all done in camera just using the diff coulours on the torch app. Takes a bit of trial and error- but the main thing to do is just take LOADS of shots, then have a look and see what turns out best.

Damn i've just given away all my photography secrets!

Hope this is of some help!

That made me smile- alas i have no studio, my photo's are taken in an incredibly low-tech way!

Indoor ones are usually just a piece of white A4 paper taped to the wall on my desk, its a great size for lego minifigs- think id stuggle with shooting anything larger though

Brilliant! I have a low level portable LED that I was going to experiment with, this is great news!!

Thanks for sharing!

Lighting, lightbox, LED, oh well, I don`t photograph indoors much, mostly outdoors, often on holidays and with good weather.

Of course that limits my timeframe a bit.

Oh well, here we go. Sandtrooper takes a short brake during exhaustive desert patrol.

Yeah, i much prefer outdoor shots as well, I enjoy shoots on the beach and in the woods the most... but yeah your right the weather really limits the timeframe- esp with the rubbish summer we are having in the UK! :hmpf_bad:

Nice Sandtrooper shot by the way

Thanks Smokebelch!

And I know what you mean, rubbish summer in the UK, that is indeed where I was on holiday.

Even though the weather was mostly good the time I was there, the one day I went to a really big, sand-only beech

it was not. It was cloudy,it rained and the wind blew sand into my eyes and camera lens. And it made the figs fall over all the time.

Another problem I face is that I never know what minifigs to photograph, during all of those holidays it were the same three all along.

So here is the Sandtrooper again. And he is lost.
