smokebelch Posted September 8, 2009 Author Posted September 8, 2009 Thanks Pedro & Fenris I just use plain white paper for my backgrounds- get the fading effect with my lighting/ exposure time. Quote

In order to take quality pictures like this you will have to have an DSLR, shutter control is the main factor in these awesoem photos. Lighting as well, but that can be done with anything as simple as a phone. Quote
KimT Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 Quick shot after picking up my mini-tie today-^^^^ "These Imperial cut-backs are getting freakin' ridiculous!" Wohoooo! New background picture. Great photo and very funny caption Quote

I might have to get him to teach me how to use one of the them. I love your TIE shot Pedro. The Storm troopers look almost glowing. Quote

RileyC Posted September 9, 2009 Posted September 9, 2009 haha great photo smokebelch ! The pilot doesnt look that comfortable sitting on the top of it. I really love how your photos are so crisp. keep up the good work! Quote
fenris Posted September 9, 2009 Posted September 9, 2009 (edited) i think i'm going for a nikon dslr... a lot of friends got them and are very satisfied.. altough my little pocket-cam makes (considering that it's only a pocketcam) quite nice pictures. but you soon reach the limit and there's no way of experimenting. my chromevader-shots took to many tries to achieve the wanted results (and still i'm quite proud of them - specially the first one)... Commander_Rob Posted September 9, 2009 Posted September 9, 2009 (edited) Looks great smokebelch! Man, I wish I could get that mini TIE... Anyway, I got a new camera but didn´t have any ideas for a good pictures so I went for a no-brainer: a `Special Edition-Reshoot` of a previous picture so here we go: new cam, new AT-ST, new Ewok and the same line: -Unit 473 on sentry position, where are those `savage locals`? It is damn quiet round here. In case anyone is interested my camera is a Canon Powershot A1100is. That is the full name. Pretty long for one smalll digital camera. Lighting as well, but that can be done with anything as simple as a phone. Your right about the shutter control- though doesn't have to be a DSLR. My 2 cameras that i use both have up to 6 seconds shutter control, and are both point and shoot cameras (each cost less than £150). The key thing to look out for is a decent Macro function (both mine can get to 1cm), and some flexibility to play round with the shutter times ect. There are quite a few cameras now that will let you do this without spending a fortune on a top end DSLR (though if i had the cash i would def like to get myself one ) Quote

I don't want to hijack this thread or advertise another site but I'm a moderator on www.mycanikon.com If you want to learn about DSLR camera's that's the place. Nikon's have a better seledtion of lenses IMO. Generally speaking the Nikon's are more expensive than the Canon's but when it comes time to buy lenses, the Nikon lenses are cheaper than the Canon. I'm a nikon guy so I'll say stick with nikon all the way. Looks great smokebelch!Man, I wish I could get that mini TIE... fenris Posted September 9, 2009 Posted September 9, 2009 (edited) Just 2 shots of a little Hoth session I had today. The other pics will be in my brickshelf folder by tomorrow (and hopefully already public). `Should have applied for a posting on Endor..never trust recruiting officers... in summer it Edited September 9, 2009 by fenris Quote
KimT Posted September 9, 2009 Posted September 9, 2009 Great work Fenris. The picture of the peeing Tauntaun is extremely funny and the caption just puts the dot over the I. Quote
smokebelch Posted September 9, 2009 Author Posted September 9, 2009 Awesome Tauntaun shot fenris- very funny! nice use of the lightsabre blade credit to smokebelch - inventor of stooling tauntaun Haha- what an awesome credit! Quote
smokebelch Posted September 9, 2009 Author Posted September 9, 2009 Been wanting to take my chrome stormie out for some desert shots for a while- but either haven't had time or the weather's not been on my side. Finally managed to get out for some shots this morning, and had a good few hours of sunshine (before the clouds rolled in ) Was a lot harder than i thought it would be- along side the usual problems of wind blowing the minifig over etc- had all the reflection problems to deal with. Ended up with the best part of 100 shots after 3 hours of lying down in the sand- these are the better ones. The top one's my fav- and prob about as close to a self portrait as im ever going to get (view it large to see what i mean ) Never did get quite the shot i was after- but then that happens sometimes. Ho-Hum. Thought id pop on the Brickforge pauldren for a bit of a Sandtrooper vibe as well. ^^^ this is an out-take but kinda liked how the over the top sun flare looked Quote
fenris Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 (edited) I really like all three of them. And going to order a chrome stormie. Got about 100 normal ones, but actually every good collection needs a chromie. The selfportrait problem is to well known to me - after my vader sessions. The take-out looks like an hour of work in photoshop ... You are such a lucky guy with the beach so close to you... great work as usual.. great sky! btw, the rest of the hoth pics are public on my brickshelf... male and female way of motivating a taun taun.. Big Cam Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 smokebleh your chromie pics are amazing, I swear yours are a better finish of chrome than mine. Your eye for photography just blows me away. fenris, your Tuan tuan pics are looking great. The accident pic is great, adn I'm curious what you used for snow? Quote
fenris Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 (edited) Thanks. My secret snow machine: sugar - powder and cristals. The powder for the form, the cristal one for some reflections... I tried to have some snow falling but only got everthing massed up - my camera, my kitchen... have to figure out how next time... Edited September 10, 2009 by fenris Quote

I was kind of thinking powdered sugar but regular sugar for reflections is a great idea. Not sure what kind of camera you have but I would suggest moving the camera back and zooming in. I'm sure it sounds simpler than it really is, either way, keep up the great work. Quote
prateek Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 Those chromie pics are amazing. Where do you get such lovely sand? Quote
smokebelch Posted September 10, 2009 Author Posted September 10, 2009 Thanks for the comments Cool carrot/ tauntaun shot fenris- great set of hoth photos! Where do you get such lovely sand? I live near the coast- have to get up early to get some peace and quiet (and space!) for my beach shots though Quote
JimBee Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 *Ewok attack picture* I'm not sure why, but I really like the style of this picture. It feels kind of retro, in a good way. `Never eat yellow snow... old saying of the Inuit and the inhabitants of Hoth Nice one. I like the snow effect on the Taun-Taun pic, but since it wasn't snowing during the battle of Hoth, I don't think snow is needed for a Snowtrooper. But maybe that's just because I hope you don't damage it. ^^^ this is an out-take but kinda liked how the over the top sun flare looked 'nother background pic, thanks! I only had that Palpy one for two days. male and female way of motivating a taun taun.. Quote
Ras 74 Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 Really great photos as usual from all of you. Saved a few as new backgrounds ;) Quote

I tried to move the camera back and zoom in to avoid shadows but then my macro modis doesn't really work properly (pocket cam). Anyway, light is a point I´ve got to work on... there are huge possibilities to massevely improve the shots (-> smokebelch). But X-mas seems a good date to buy a dslr cam... Quote
RileyC Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 I always love your photos smokebelch and this last batch is no exception. The chrome looks awesome with the sand and your blue sky (seriously, my sky isnt that blue!). My favourite has to be the sun flare one its really well done even if it wasnt intended to look like that Quote
