I was experimenting with a blue LED light, and I noticed something: the Jawas' eyes shine in the blue light, as though they are phosphorescent. It's much more apparent in the flesh, but I've tried to capture it in the photo.

It's a steep learning curve, this art: I now know the figures have to be extremely clean as every little speck of dust becomes oh so obvious.

C & C most welcome!

I was looking through these and got some great ideas:

Ventress

2010_0324lightingandcats0005.jpg

This was probably my best attempt.

"Who shot first?"

2010_0324lightingandcats0006.jpg

This one wasn't nearly so good, but I kept it anyways.

Clone vs. Super BD

2010_0324lightingandcats0007.jpg

Tip: Never the same trick twice. I was basically going for the same lightsaber effect- only coming from the Deecee, but it didn't work as well as I wanted it to.

Anakin's Flight

2010_0324lightingandcats0008.jpg

This one came from the fact that I still hadn't seen many vehicles shots. Now I know why- they can be fairly tricky.

BD Go Home

2010_0324lightingandcats0009.jpg

This was just for the sheer joy of it- I noticed something while taking the last shot, so I quickly pulled this off.

Your pics would be nice Legonater is they weren't so blurry. The last one with the S.T.A.P is pretty neat

I know, I need to get a new camera... However, IMO, the blurriness helped the sell the Jedi Starfigher one better.

Cool jawa shot rufus

Yeah i've noticed that the jawa's eyes are pretty reflective, can get some great effects with them.

Haha welcome to my world! - dust is the bane of my life, so many of my shots have been ruined by dust and fluff etc on the minifigs. Never noticeable until you look at them on the comp, the odd one or two can be edited out, but any more and i'll have to reshoot the shot. I've now taken to taking a couple of test shots, then looking at them on the PC to see where any dust my be so i can clean it off

Some good set-ups there legonator, the STAP one came out great. The others would benefit with being in focus- have a look at the settings on your camera and see if you've got a macro setting, this'll let you get the small minifigs in focus much better.

Thanks for posting them up, looking forward to seeing what else you come up with.

Thanks, just found my macro button, but it doesn't appear to work on my 'Lego' setting (It's actually for flowers, but it works well with LEGO too) I'll see if I can get a better version of any of these shots- perferable the Ventress one.

Thanks Smokey! I've got a long way to go before I can compete with you and Fenris, but there's a limit to what you cen do with a compact camera. Good idea on the test shots.

@Legonater, the maco should do the trick. I'll add my appreciation of the STAP shot

This is my favourite, but a better focus would make this pic 100x better

Cool new shots! The community is growing

DUST - what a pain in the... any good tips how to get your figs really clean? I have no clue...

Seeing the scene when the emperor arrives on the DS I found a litle inspiration (something I'm lacking of for some weeks...)

Rise, my friend...

Nice shot, but how dare you take apart a chrome Vader!

BTW, for dust, you could rinse the figs in lukewarm water for a few minutes and air dry or dry them with a fan on a towel.

Or, if you don't want to wet your figs, you could use a small paintbrush to wipe the dust off.

Brilliant picture fenris, some Stormtroopers lined up behind Vader might help the epicness here.

For dust removal, I can recommend so-called "anti-dust" cloths. They are some form of microfiber and keep the dust in via static electricity (or so they say). All I know is that they are great to clean dust from just about anything. You should be able to get them from any supermarket, just have a look round the cleaning supplies.

Endor at Night

Nothing particularily special about this one, but it's a cool shot.

Ani/Vader

This is a neat shot, and took forevor to get right.

Han/???

I think you caught on incredibly fast. I love this shot.

Cool shadows in your Vader/Indy shots legonater

Nice Vader shot fenris- I know what you mean about lacking inspiration im the same at the moment, really looking forward to some decent weather so I can get out for some photos. The indoor shots are always harder.

Anyways picked up a Tie-Defender (mostly for the new Tie Pilot helmet I must admit  ) Thought Id post a quick shot, nothing too fancy- did want to take this with a plain light, but the detail was much better to pick out with a bit of colour.

Cooooool. You should go to the beach and make a crashed TIE Defender scene. :sweet:

I spent an hour yesterday looking through all your pics. *Insert bloodshot smiley here*

Thanks. I think I work best with shadows.

This shot BTW. If it were at a different angle, it would look like a recruiting poster.
