Brickdoctor Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Your continuing critique of my photos is much appreciated, Solscud; it's resulted in what I think is a much nicer shot: Spinning the 'Web, Take 2 by Brickdoctor, on Flickr And two new ones, trying out black-on-black and chrome-on-black: Shadowtrooper by Brickdoctor, on Flickr Vader by Brickdoctor, on Flickr Quote
Solscud007 Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 (edited) YES!!!! See what I mean? Your previous shots were good. But the snow trooper shot just looked odd in terms of the color temp of the lighting and not in the style of a smokebelch picture. But after you went back and re-shot it, that is a FANTASTIC picture. A true photographer always tries to hone his or her craft. There is always something that they can improve on, learn from, or be inspired to try something new. Good for you Brick Doctor. Keep it up and keep trying new approaches. Even if they arent as great as others. You have to get thru less than spectacular pics to move onto the better ones. The Stormtrooper pic is very interesting underlighting. I actually thought it was a negative. But then I saw the chest and realized it is a black stormtrooper. Very cool. Bring it on!!!! haha one small critique I have is your watermark. I cant think of how to fix it but the light blue L shape distracts me. I think it should be off to the other corner. For some reason, the stormtrooper looks like it has a black rectangle covering the bottom left corner and part of the arm. But that is a trick of the way the shadow is casted on the arm. Maybe for photography shots I'll go with a '© Brickdoctor' and save the logo for MOCs. Quote
Mr Man Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Here is my attempt at a Brickdoctor shot. *Snip Snip* I love that second one Solscud007, though the first ST could do with a black head the yellow is a bit distracting. Quote
Solscud007 Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 I love that second one Solscud007, though the first ST could do with a black head the yellow is a bit distracting. Yeah. I saw that when removing some dust via photoshop. Sadly sometimes in a photoshoot I get so focused on composition and lighting that I dont see those minor details. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 (edited) Nice job, Solscud. New one: "Come back here!" by Brickdoctor, on Flickr "Come back here! What are you whining about this time, you overweight blob of grease?" Now that I've done a lot of experimenting with this new camera, I think I can honestly say I love LEGO photography. I'lll definitely be doing more. This is not really based on any particular scene from Empire. Edited May 23, 2011 by Brickdoctor Quote
Mr Man Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Now that I've done a lot of experimenting with this new camera, I think I can honestly say I love LEGO photography. I'll definitely be doing more. This is not really based on any particular scene from Empire. My that's a great shot Brickdoctor. Surely its based on a deleted scene where the droids end up in a wampa pit in Echo Base (I think this happens ). Quote
Brickdoctor Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 My that's a great shot Brickdoctor. Surely its based on a deleted scene where the droids end up in a wampa pit in Echo Base (I think this happens ). That scene was in the back of my head as I did this, but it was more of inspiration than basis. Quote
Lego Otaku Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 My that's a great shot Brickdoctor. Surely its based on a deleted scene where the droids end up in a wampa pit in Echo Base (I think this happens ). Yes thats the scene. It's in comic book adaption of the movie by Dark Knight. It would have been funny if that scene was left in and we get to see Wampa chasing snow troopers during the Empire's attack on the base. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 Another new one: "Imperial troops have entered the base!" by Brickdoctor, on Flickr "Imperial troops have entered the base!" *cue Imperial March* ----- Vader's pose turned out perfect, methinks. Quote
Mr Man Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 This latest one is really good Brickdoctor, a nice little base as well, the snow effect really looks good against Vader's black colouring. Quote
Captain Bayonet Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 Beautiful new shots Brickdoctor! I especially like the "Imperial Troops have entered the base", great posing on the Rebel. Did you use icing sugar to achieve the snow effect? ~Bayonet Quote
Churchill Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 Nice shot, Brickdoctor. I think the pose of Vader is good, juxtaposed with the rebel... reflects the mood as Vader steps over the flotsam in ESD! A dead rebel is just another piece of debris! Quote
Ceroknight Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 Fantastic shot Brickdoctor! One question, is the snowtrooper on the left supposed to be bending his knee? I was confused why his leg was apart.. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 One question, is the snowtrooper on the left supposed to be bending his knee? I was confused why his leg was apart.. Yes. Separating the legs is a common way of portraying a kneeling pose. Quote
Bane Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 Very nice shots everyone. I tried to make some "darkness" shots, here's the result: There's Something in that Room Royal Guards Some feedback would be welcome :) Greetings -Bane Quote
