Mortimer glares at the man, frowning, but notices Erik examining the patch over the crimson crownsman's eye closely. "Erik," he calls, shaking his head once he had the man's attention.

Erik looks over at the Warden and frowns quizzically, before turning back to the agent and locking his gaze on the man's normal eye. He shrugs and takes a step back.

"Well, that sounds... alright. I don't like to kill people who aren't tryin' to kill me anyway, but I haven't got any potions. I could prob'ly magic up a stone cast for your leg, but I guess you wouldn't want that. If someone else can patch you up, good on 'em."

He shrugs again, awkwardly, and follows Hoke.

The world needs to be protected, not held back. Especially not from the likes of you. Jaret would have turned Baltarok and the area into a bloody warzone. That won't fly with me. If your organization so much as touches the High Kingdoms again and I hear about it, then you can be sure this won't be the last you see of me. The Crimson Crown is a parasite, and you will fall eventually.

If the agent has nothing more to say, then I leave him and follow Hybros.

"We're certainly not a religious group. Ethics fits better. We're an ancient organization whose sole purpose, essentially, is to make sure the world advances at a sustainable pace. There are a lot of trappings we could do without when it comes to improving the future of our world. Example. Magic. It's too dangerous. Every few years someone pops up trying to become a god or threatening to tear holes in the fabric of the universe, and the only thing that enables that kind of power is magic. You're always going to have crazy people, but at least without magic we won't have crazy mages. There's also a lot of advanced technology around that could threaten the natural order of things. Take a look at what all these automatons and airships are doing to Xu. The most we're willing to use is alchemy. Some of the higher-ups suspect Ji Pei is literally ahead of our time. That could be a major issue. And of course there's the gods. Relics we should've grown out of centuries ago. These are the things impeding our natural advancements, and without them, maybe the world can be just a little bit less chaotic. You wouldn't even believe how much progress we've made."

"That was a pretty nice speech, but Hybros makes an excellent point - who appointed you lot fit to decide what is and isn't appropriate to stay or go and stir world in the right direction or a sustainable pace?"... He paused for a second and added, "Leave him here and let us continue."

Hybros thought about his vision, and addressed Illdria and Melvin. "Ehehm... I think your wizard is in danger. A vision, I am not sure what caused it, but I have learned to trust such things in my time, eheh... It appeared to me after we defeated those Earthwyrms. He was... being tortured by the Bonaparte admiral. And there was another there, I am not sure who. But I may have a clue to this password door... I was given the letter 'A'."

On their way to the kitchen, Thalion looked at Hybros and the others, "I also had a similar, if not the same, vision of torture. And I can also remember one letter: L."

I still haven't had time to build this next set, sorry. :wall: So, brief roleplaying break...

"You plan to kill gods?"

17355942306_8eca83df3f_t.jpg

"We plan to have people to trust in themselves, not in deities who don't care whether or not we slaughter eachother in their names."

"I have had this conversation with you predecessors, and it comes down to this: who are you to decide?" Hybros asked softly, without vindication and with a hint of curiosity, as if he actually wanted to know the answer. But without waiting for one, he began walking away, towards the kitchen. He called back to the others. "We must continue. That one will be of little use with one leg. You may patch him up if you want, but if he must be carried then we leave him."

17355942306_8eca83df3f_t.jpg

"Waiting around for some higher power to give us justification will get us nowhere. Every being should seize destiny for themselves, not wait for it to be given. We are committed to our path."

Erik looks over at the Warden and frowns quizzically, before turning back to the agent and locking his gaze on the man's normal eye. He shrugs and takes a step back.

"Leave me, then. Magic has done more than enough to me."

"Don't feed me that nonsense. As I understand Jaret is trying to help modernize Baltarok, we're not around to incite wars. Did you see a single one of our combatants there?

"That was a pretty nice speech, but Hybros makes an excellent point - who appointed you lot fit to decide what is and isn't appropriate to stay or go and stir world in the right direction or a sustainable pace?"... He paused for a second and added, "Leave him here and let us continue."

"We don't sit around and wait to be 'appointed' to do anything. We recognize the dangers these things face, and we act. Who appointed Heroica to decide what's good and what's bad? Nobody. Your founders saw what needed to be done, and they did it. Just because a god doesn't do it doesn't mean it shouldn't be done."

The man shook his head and dug around in his pockets for intact potions as the party left, headed for the kitchens. Melvin frowned, scratching his beard, and he looked over at Thalion, Em, and Hybros.

"They, eh, sure do like to.....show up. A lot." The dwarven cook bit his lip. "Ye know, I don't get like getting caught up in the crazy masked supremacist business, and they did try and kill ye once, but damned if they weren't right about that...what was it, picbox?" Melvin shook his head. "But I was raised right and proper to believe in Orrik and Mythra. Don't see no harm in that, meself. Hell, I hate thinking about this kind of thing. Makes yer mind wander. What do you think about all this business?"

Meanwhile, Captain Illdria walks alongside Guts, Mizuki, Dyric, and Erik, looking unimpressed by the conversations flying about.

"These Crimson fools and Cold whatever turn up far too often for my liking. If they want to kill eachother so damn badly, they can at least do it elsewhere. Getting people caught in the middle of it all this philosophy is pointless, nobody seems to understand that some people could not care less and just want to go about living and doing what they like. Do you deal with their types often?" She rolled her eyes. "How Heroica puts up with it I'll never understand. I'd make a terrible hero. No patience for this garbage."

Meanwhile, Omen continued to slink along around Hoke's legs.

16742072489_8bc21f8d19_t.jpg

'<So tell me Mister Dragoon who's so fed up with poor Omen's games. What's in this vision of yours? How much trouble has dear master gotten himself into? Nothing too serious I hope. I'm sure it's almost deathly serious, but I can hope otherwise. That's what hope is for. It's a silly thing. Sometimes helpful though. I just want to know if I need to start having dwarfy feed me my fishes instead.>'

"I've already said what there was to say," Hoke says curtly.

Torc eyes the feline yet again, sensing Hoke's annoyance.

Mortimer clenches his hands into fists. "Individuals who think they are doing the right thing are often correct." He pauses for a moment, considering his next words. "Groups... Groups cloud judgment. Groups are often wrong."

He takes a breath, letting it out slow, hand hovering over his eyepatch. "There are individuals who are wrong, too-- mostly those vying for Kingship or Godhood. Power over others, often extreme. Though I suppose Kings and Gods can't really be individuals, can they? Hm."

His train of thought grinds to a halt, his last "hm" slowly dimming into a sigh. "I don't know what to think, Melvin. Not anymore. I can hardly see ten feet straight-- I can't afford to look anywhere but forward."

As Hybros walked away the injured man's voice faded. The imp kept his high and facing forward. He had had this conversation one too many times to be caught up in the debate with someone who couldn't see past their own self-centeredness.

"Hmph. He talks about the power of the self, but he needs his... organization to tell him that the power within others is wrong. Magic, alchemy, technology... these are all products of people trusting in themselves. If we trusted in the Crimson Crown to keep everything the way it is, then we would have the opposite. They contradict everything they say that they stand for. They may have been right about the painting machine, but it was intended to be used for good, not evil. It was the beholder that caused the evil. I do not think the Crown realize this, and that is their downfall... They are a joke, an annoyance, and leave nothing but destruction in their path."

Hybros breaks from his determined stare forward to cast a sideways glance at Em. His fists unclenched, though he did not realize they were so in the first place. "I feel the same, Em. The world becomes a more confusing place with every day, but we must strive for what we always have."

I sit back and watch out for incoming enemies

He addressed Dyric next, who was observing silently as seemed to be the norm for the stoic assassin. "Dyric, you mentioned the Crimson Crown in Baltorak... their reach extends farther than I thought, eheh... What was their goal there?"

I sit back and watch out for incoming enemies ? Was I supposed to be in included in one of those groups? :look:

"That might even sound worse, no offense. But I suppose a lot of the fallout from your work gets left up to you. But perhaps I'm not flexible enough, in that regard. I'd've killed the kidnapper without a second thought, most likely."

"Yeah, none taken." Erik sighs, for once paying little attention to how attractive the captain is. "It's a job, and overall I reckon Olegaia's better off for it, but it's mad how much we get away with." Even years later, the argument over whether to spare the Maginastra is an event Erik remembers well. It was one of his proudest moments in his career as a hero. "I remember about half the heroes there reckoned we should kill him. I was a lot more naive back then, though." He adds, thinking back to the behaviour of some of the kids in the Academy.

"Flexibility cuts both ways, sometimes. How did you get into shipping, anyway?"

Hybros shrugged at Melvin's response. There wasn't much else to say so he simply continued to walk in silence.

"Man sure talks a lot for one that has supposedly been trapped for days and hurt. Hybros, I'd like to finish him. For my sake, if not his."

He called over to Guts. "No one is stopping you, though I do not see the point in killing a defenseless man, even if our ideals do not match."

He addressed Dyric next, who was observing silently as seemed to be the norm for the stoic assassin. "Dyric, you mentioned the Crimson Crown in Baltorak... their reach extends farther than I thought, eheh... What was their goal there?"

Much the same as here, except in Baltarok they were forwarding their goals by supplying the Kingdoms with the equipment to start war on the orcs. I grew up in the Kingdoms, Hybros. I won't stand to see it defiled like that.

Meanwhile, Captain Illdria walks alongside Guts, Mizuki, Dyric, and Erik, looking unimpressed by the conversations flying about.

Honestly, I've dealt with worse. There was a woman a few years back, name was Lady Wren. She wanted to become the goddess of Chaos, and came scarily close too. She went on and on about the philosophies of chaos. Actually got a good friend of mine to take her side on the subject. The whole thing was a mess.

Sadly, that's nothing compared to the state Eubric is in. Six different houses, all wanting to forward their own goals and never willing to concede. They go through their petty squabbles and everyone else gets crushed underneath. As hard as it is, that's why Heroica has to exist, to look out for those who can no longer look out for themselves. To keep the peace for just a little bit more.

I'll respond to the conversations (and also update stats) tomorrow.

The party heads to the kitchen. The room is...surprisingly well-lit and appears more or less intact. Illdria frowns intently.

16403890313_9ffb0c7a7d_t.jpg

"This is..."

15752057766_89b7d48c3d_t.jpg

"Too easy?"

16403890313_9ffb0c7a7d_t.jpg

"Too easy. This room's been tampered with. We ought to take things slow. Who would've rigged this place, and for what purpose?"

-KITCHEN CRAWL-

17288921580_b1c8de7d03_o.jpg

The kitchen is divided into a 6x6 grid (top left square is A1, bottom right is F6). Some tiles will be trapped. These traps immediately reduce the hero to one health, and they cannot continue until they have been restored to full health. When a hero moves to a square on the grid, the number of traps in the surrounding eight squares will be revealed. Heroes cannot move into tiles with furniture, but they can be searched for loot. They can, however, also be trapped. Magnifying glasses reveal one random trap in the surrounding eight squares, but cannot be used once a trap within its range has already been revealed. The heroes begin at the bottom row. The goal is to find a path to reach the top row.

"Does anyone have a Bone or something expendable we could toss on or slide across each square?"

"Are you ready to be of use cat?"Hoke says with a grin.

Mortimer nervously shifts in front of the field, trying to make sense of the puzzle. "This is a first," he mutters, getting ready to start walking.

16403890313_9ffb0c7a7d_t.jpg

"I had to get out of the Hovels at some point. I found work on an independent shipping vessel. Worked my way up the ranks, made a lot of contacts, and then the majority of the crew ended up dying in a pirate attack. Most parted ways after that, but not me: I ended up with the ship, repainted it, got a new crew, here I am. Probably not as exciting as how heroes get recruited, but there you are."

"She."

"And that's why I appreciate your group. The Houses are too outdated. They don't care about the common people. That's why we ought to be rid of them."

"Defenseless, hmpf. Later, then. Now, how do we begin this puzzle?"

16403890313_9ffb0c7a7d_t.jpg

"I imagine we just...step on a square. We need to find a path to the opposite side of the room."

"Can you use your Agility to avoid any traps that might be here, captain?"

16403890313_9ffb0c7a7d_t.jpg

"Sure, but I can't exactly solo the rest of this thing, we need to find a path for all of us to get through."
