DraikNova Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 Tarix was a pretty good set in my opinion. He's the only one of the post 2006 toa-sized sets (bar Lewa Phantoka) that I've actually liked. Quote
Voxovan Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 I feel like the only person who really liked Bruizer, but I'm a sucker for rock golem monsters so there's some bias :v Hey, I actually liked Bruizer too :x Quote
ZORK64 Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 Also, never realised there was so much love for Aquagon, I thought the general consensus was negative. Guess that was wrong. I don't hate the set, just lack of back armour in CCBS sets really winds me up nowadays I guess. And to be fair, my (modded) Aquagon is still built whereas many other villains have been disassembled. Maybe I should have picked Scarox instead in my original post, but since I wrote a review defending him, I chose not to I guess I actually also wrote a review for Aquagon back then, and the response, while small, was mostly positive towards him. I second that his bare back is not that great, but that problem plagued almost all of the BA baddies due to the brain slugs, so I wouldn't punish Aquagon for that. Though to be fair, I mostly bought him for parts usage, as he comes with a handful of nice pieces, especially for that price. But I also like his poseability, where he clearly beats Frost Beast and Dragon Bolt IMHO. Scarox on the other hand was one of the sets I skipped, partially because his design didn't interest me that much, partially because I never cared much for golden parts. Quote
Saberwing40k Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 My worst sets , barring polybags, and any stuff I don't own, are the 2.0 heroes, who have really boring heads, and the Inika, who have really weird heads, but the heads are the only things I dislike. If they were given regular heads, I'd like them a lot better. Quote
MakutaOfWar Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 Why people complain about the Inika builds??? :S There was still great variety, especially the titans. Not too much different then the way they released the Mata/Nuva. The bulk of my Gen 1 collections consist of post-06 sets, since that is when I really got into Bionicle(first set was still in 01 though). I've especially seen a couple of people complain about Tahu Mistika, who might just be my favorite out of the Inika build era. Quote

I've especially seen a couple of people complain about Tahu Mistika, who might just be my favorite out of the Inika build era. Because It had a terrible leg-to body length ratio, where the legs were way too long, so the arms would often reach the ankles. It was insanely broad shouldered to the point where the shoulder width is more than the shoulder-to-hip length. The broad shoulders can work for titan builds, but looks odd in my opinion for most toa Lots of people liked gears, which this build has none of. The body often looked very flat and the arms and legs looked rather thin. This design was used up until the Stars. The Inika build does, however, offer possibly the best articulation from G1 bionicle and even beats the G2 toa in my opinion due to having slightly more arm articulation. I guess Tahu Mistika is "hated" because of his "boring" build and abundance of silver (even though very few people hate Gali and Pohatu this year). Also the 2008 toa, especially the Mistika, had very few resemblances to their Mata/Nuva forms. Edited April 3, 2015 by bidiminished Quote

And it's really a "whatever floats your boat" topic, some people like Inika builds, some people like limited-floppy arm builds. And saying the Phatoka and Mistika don't look like their 01/02 counterparts can be compared to how the Nuva didn't look like the Mata, were people complaining then? Sure Kopaka Nuva had his scope but so did Phatoka Kopaka. And personally I think Onua Mistika's mask looks more like his Mata form then his 02 Nuva form did, but really there were a few differences between the Mata and the 02 Nuva. Plus I happen to think Tahu's Mistika mask was the best from that year, but like I said it's all a matter of opinions. :P Quote
ToaSalvus(lego) Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 For me? Any set that uses skeleball (aka CCBS). Quote
Mandate Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 For me? Any set that uses skeleball (aka CCBS). Weren't you banned under the account name "Dinobrick" a few months back? Quote
Onepu the Protector Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 And saying the Phatoka and Mistika don't look like their 01/02 counterparts can be compared to how the Nuva didn't look like the Mata, were people complaining then? But at least the Toa Nuva retained their Toa Mata counterparts' color schemes and most of their physical characteristics. Onua was still a hunchback who was shorter than the rest of his teammates, Tahu had fire swords and an angry-looking mask with 0-shaped mouth, etc. The Toa Nuva Phantoka/Mistika, on the other hand, looked like completely different characters. Lyichir Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 People disliked Bruizer? He was my absolute favorite Brain Attack set, at least from the first wave... Anyway, I tend to see merit even in awkward builds like Kazi, or sets like the Inika that at least offered relief from the terrible, boring Metru Nui color schemes. Even Toa Mata Nui at least tried something new, with the piston-based torso suspension. If I had to pick a "worst set," it'd probably be one like Ackar, with a build and color scheme that were neither good nor novel. I'm sure there might be other, better examples, but he's the main one that springs to mind. Quote
ToaSalvus(lego) Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 Weren't you banned under the account name "Dinobrick" a few months back? What? I picked up that term on bzpower. I don't care for the CCBS building system. Ok? Quote

Lyichir Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 (edited) Ok, I got kicked out due to creative differences, so what? From the descriptions of Eurobricks user groups: "In most cases we'll tell you when to come back, if ever. If you've been banned and think you deserve a second chance, don't just create another account. Contact us via this email and in time we'll get back to you." In other words, you broke the rules just by creating a dupe account. Not a great start for your grand return. Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if you end up banned both here AND on BZPower before long... and to tell the truth, I'm kind of looking forward to it. Edited April 3, 2015 by Lyichir Quote
mysteriouspi Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 Getting back on topic... I can't say I cared for the Vahki very much, they looked awkward to me as a kid when I got them. But my least favorite were probably the Barraki. Their concept was really cool, but the execution didn't quite live up to that. Some of them were constructed in strange manners that didn't look good, and most of them had spindly limbs that didn't work well. This is all in my opinion of course, I know a lot of people here really like the Barraki. Quote
CabooseBM Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 (edited) 2008 Matoran/Agori/Stars With the exception of some nice mask/helmets/weapons, these guys were pure garbage and exemplified all the worst problems of G1's building system. Edited April 4, 2015 by CabooseBM Quote

I kinda liked the stars for what they were. TBH if the 08 Matoran and Agori were more like the stars I wouldn't have minded the flaws of their system nearly as much. TBH if the 08 Matoran and Agori were more like the stars I wouldn't have minded the flaws of their system nearly as much. 8 bucks for those breaking things wasn't really worth it. They might make an okay-ish "decoration" on your selves but that's kinda it. Honestly the wave needed at least one titan to be more effective. Now it's just a lackluster in everything. I might get killed for this but I dare to say that even some Galidor's were better. Quote
DraikNova Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 At least the Galidor sets had reasonable aesthetics. Meanwhile, the Stars were just as incompatible with other sets because their parts broke the moment you took them apart. Quote
GK733 Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 (edited) Not to say the parts themselves were even less useful than the ones as mata legs and feet. The Gaardus combiner speaks for itself. We even got the absolutely worst combiner back in 2010! Edited April 4, 2015 by GK733 Quote
Voxovan Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 (edited) Not to say the parts themselves were even less useful than the ones as mata legs and feet. I disagree. Yeah, those pieces weren't as useful as, let's say, Inika limbs, but they still could be used for something. I've seen a lot of MOCs using those Av-Matoran/Agori/Stars limbs in very effective and creative ways, heck, I've even made MOCs like that myself. (same with Mata feet) Edited April 4, 2015 by Voxovan Quote
