greatoonay Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 If I had to pick one, it would have to be the stars skrall. That thing was awful Quote
DraikNova Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 At least the Skrall had a relatively useful weapon part. Tahu was just...ugh. Quote
Mandate Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 I disagree. Yeah, those pieces weren't as useful as, let's say, Inika limbs, but they still could be used for something. I've seen a lot of MOCs using those Av-Matoran/Agori/Stars limbs in very effective and creative ways, heck, I've even made MOCs like that myself. (same with Mata feet) 08 Takanuva used them. Ironic, really: the most well-recieved Titan-scale set in LEGO history used some of the most hated pieces. But seriously though, people hate the Mata feet? Why? Quote
ZORK64 Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 I'd like to mention that when I was thinking about "worst constraction" set, I was only judging by its built and function, not by the versatility or the quality of the parts. As far as the Inika builds go, I also dislike the Toa Inika for their weird-looking heads/masks and their very flat torso design. Later sets who still used the Inika build usually worked around the flatness of their bodies, and they also ditched the ugly heads for either bringing back the Metru heads with new neat masks or the Glatorian hads, who also got neat masks. ToaSalvus(lego) Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Mandate, I think its because the "ankle" connector is set rather far back, leaving a larger-than-mata build with a weird center of balance. or perhaps its due to the odd "toe" shape? which is sad, because ive always found it to be one of the more useful feet parts. Quote
Lord-Vorahk Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 Worst constraction set is a complicated thing, since it all depends on hw you judge quality. For example, it's very easy to say that Tanma is one of the worst sets ever, because he's not only an Av-Matoran, but also a lime one, so he falls apart if you look at him. But at the same time, I really like Tanma. Sure, he's not a great set, but when he's properly built, he looks pretty great sitting on a shelf, and he also looks pretty decent on Lewa's back. You could say that the Tohunga are terrible, since they're as close to a Brick as Bionicle gets. But, like the infamous Good Guy, they're free promos. I'd say the worse set I've owned was Vastus. He had overspecialised parts, poor armour, and his joints fell apart very quickly. And his weapon was crap. But I think the actual worst set was Stars Skrall. I never understood why he and Gresh got to be in the "All-Stars" wave, and the set, save for the black Kopaka sword, was awful. In response to things overs have said... I really liked the Inika build. I like the cartoony proportions, and honestly, the leg-to-torso-ratio is just as bad in the 2015 sets and no-one complains about them. WHen they were just built, they were sturdy enough. The Piraka build was pretty bad, though. And I also loved the Vahki. I should build a Vahki. Quote
Logan McOwen Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 (edited) And I also loved the Vahki. I should build a Vahki. I have three Bordahk standing on top of my wardrobe. I have no idea where the second and third came from, yet there they are. My little trio of clockwork policemen. Edited April 9, 2015 by LewiMOC Quote
VBBN Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 If we ignore the parts in the set, I hated Karzahni. Awkward proportions, some really ugly surfaces (the vakama mas+mantax feet+piraka shins...why). I get that he was mutated by the pit, but trying to pass off an awful design as "mutated" has never been one of my preferred marketing tactics. Quote

MakutaDreadscythe Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 Just gonna go ahead and say Gavla. All the limbs are 90 degrees, weapons are too big, looks like garbage no matter how you pose it. Only redeeming quality is the mask, even then it's very specific. Quote
Lord-Vorahk Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 I have three Bordahk standing on top of my wardrobe. I have no idea where the second and third came from, yet there they are. My little trio of clockwork policemen. Nice. Sadly I only got Nuurahk and Zadahk, which sucks since Bordahk is clearly the best one. Just gonna go ahead and say Gavla. All the limbs are 90 degrees, weapons are too big, looks like garbage no matter how you pose it. Only redeeming quality is the mask, even then it's very specific. Aw, I like Gavla. Actually, I kinda like all the Kardatoran, warts and all. It's the Agori I have a problem with. They fixed none of the issues with the Kardatoran- And no, the head doesn't count. The Kra-Matoran were supposed to be hunched over and twisted, and the Av-Matoran masks were so streamlined that the longish necks didn't matter too much- and made a few worse. With no wings or jetpacks, the torsos were only one unit thick, and the fist piece made the prebent limbs problem all the worse since they had so little articulation. THere was also the fact that a lot of the 2009 masks are terrible and show too much of the "Iron Man" face... Mata Nui, 2009 was a bad year. Changed my mind, guys. Worse set is either Metus or Berix. Ugly masks, 90 degree arms which are exacerbated by the fist pieces, and poor colour schemes. Quote
OmastarLovesDonuts Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 I also think Metus is pretty bad. His limbs are angled so that he can't actually use his sword or shield- and besides, the shield leaves his hand completely exposed. The sword is juts the generic Av-Matoran blade, and the torso is ugly as well. Quote
Lord-Vorahk Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 Turning into a snake was probably an improvement for Metus. Quote
DraikNova Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 The Metus snake would actually be a pretty good set. Way more interesting than the Agori. Quote
MakutaOfWar Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Tahu's blades would be awesome in a Gen 2 Vahki remake. :P Quote
DuckBricks Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 (edited) trying to pass off an awful design as "mutated" has never been one of my preferred marketing tactics. Completely agree, it happened with almost all the "mutant" sets, except maybe the Barraki, although some of the Barrkai were literally stick-thin (Ehlek, I'm looking at you with that Technic beam for a torso. No, the back armor/spikes don't count as a body...) Turning into a snake was probably an improvement for Metus. Hah! So true... Agreed. The leg for a head attachment piece was awful, and the only thing going for him was that black Kopaka blade. I never liked those 90 degree bent Agori arms, and it made me so irritated every time Lego used custom, bendable versions to emulate movement in the stop actions. ToaDraco Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 Aquagon. He was just so bland and boring, though I appreciate the 'creature of the black lagoon' attempt. Quote
MakutaOfWar Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 I don't see why people complain about the Inika builds being plain, they had more customizable options then ccbs has. Quote
Saberwing40k Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 I don't see why people complain about the Inika builds being plain, they had more customizable options then ccbs has. I'd have to say yes and no. Yes, there were more customizable options, but I think that was due in part to the fact that by that time Bionicle as a system had been around for a long time, so they had a lot of pieces with interesting sculpts to work with. I think the CCBS style builds will become more interesting, as new parts with different sculpts are added. Right now, while there are a number of different sizes of shells and bones, all of the shells look rather similar, but I think that will change as Bionicle goes forward with the new system. Quote
MakutaOfWar Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 ^Ccbs has been around for 4 years now and the amount of pieces Bionicle had circulating in production between 2001-2005 was still a considerable difference in variety, even without the Slizer and Roborider molds. Plus look at the pieces that were introduced in ccbs that were discontinued. So I would say in three years IF Bionicle is still a theme that the molds will still be limited. Quote
dviddy Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 (edited) Which is on purpose. The first half of the line mismanaged the mold costs according to the CEE team, and all those molds were found to have been more expensive than previously thought. Hence the near-standardization of the Inika style build the last three or four years. Edited April 19, 2015 by Darth Vader Quote
Lord-Vorahk Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 Solek was probably the best of the Avotoran builds, to be honest. His limbs weren't horrible for pre-bent lumps of barely-useful plastic, his mask looks great, his colour scheme is good... He's certainly better than basically every build of that type that came afterwards (Zesk doesn't count). Quote
