Posted March 29, 20159 yr Pics welcome!.....i have been trying over the past few months to gather Technic parts in rare colours, most recently i bought 5 of part # 48989 in Red. Only avialable in two sets, last one being the awesome dump druck 7344 from 2005. What rare parts have you got in your collection?....do you end up using them?, when building 42029 recently the instructions called to use two Black #32138 on the bonnet, since i had them in Red i use them instead...and the model looks much better for it. http://www.bricklink...&colorID=5&in=A http://www.bricklink...&colorID=5&in=A
March 29, 20159 yr Rarest parts I own are 19L flex axles in black. Kind of scared to use them because they're worth so much Other than that I have a lot of parts in rare colors, like orange bushes, or green and tan 9L liftarms. Edited March 29, 20159 yr by jantjeuh
March 30, 20159 yr There was a thread a while back about parts (and colors) that were never released in an official set, yet somehow made by TLG ( for prototyping) and sold to few lucky individuals. As for officially released parts, I have many of the early Technic (e.g. power puller) and the rare parts that came with them. Edited March 30, 20159 yr by DrJB

March 30, 20159 yr That's a good one too. The one I was thinking of had parts in never officially released colors, such as hydraulic cylinders and even a 15L THIN liftarm.

July 9, 20159 yr Fortunately many rare parts get re- released, Lego designers keep an eye on the higher priced parts and try to use them if they can. I dont know if the linear actuator bracket used in the hauler and telehandler will be released again, but I have kept a couple of haulers I would have otherwise sold, they have also the yellow rims only in that set. I have now been using the LA brackets in torsen diffs so need all I have,(8 I think) maybe more. The 8275 has the pneumatic cylinder brackets (about 70) and the yellow tread sprockets (20) are becoming rare also. The power puller wheels and tyres (28) and the yellow #4 connector (2). At least I can now buy yellow 1x6 thin liftarms (100+) and 3l perpendicular connectors (20) at reasonable prices. Then theres all the metallic silver wheels and dishes from 8285s several sticker sheets, 8285 (3) and 8258 (2) are you sure you want me to go on? Edited July 9, 20159 yr by Bricktrain
July 9, 20159 yr I didn't know the yellow wheel rims and LA bracket in 8264 were rare, turns out the inside wheels on the truck aren't as pesky as I thought
July 9, 20159 yr Use them on new Arocs and post photos! :P Max... Now there's an idea..... the large empy wheel arches are putting me off gettng one to be honest

Only avialable in two sets, last one being the awesome dump truck 7344 from 2005. It's pretty obvious when you look at this: when they designed the Ferrari F1.. I bet the Designers said 'we neeeeed this piece in red' and promised they'd use it in future sets..... but they don't.. so the next year, they have a excess amount of them... the Dump Truck comes along, and needs 4 of them.. (and I bet they are in a non-visible place), so they all get used up in that set. Lego rarely make new parts, or even same parts in new colours, unless it can be justified useful across many product lines..
July 9, 20159 yr I have got part 32271 liftarm 3x7 in 14 different colours so some of them are rare I think.

The first one I thought was unusual (bought second hand, so parts could have come from anywhere). But the second and later third showed up with the same pair of these in red, all three sets from different times and places. I wonder if there are local markets that use different coloured parts to others?

In 2004 LEGO was releasing every part in whatever color they felt like with little thought given to whether or not it would ever be used again. Their out-of-control element library is a big part of why they almost went out of business. They are very careful about color choices now, and only offer a part in a new color when there is going to be significant usage. July 9, 20159 yr ??? That part doesn't come in Nitro Muscle. You must be thinking of something else. Yeah, I've parted out about 40 Nitro Muscle sets and I know it has 2 of the Light Bluish Gray ones... Then again, Maybe a disgruntled employee in the packaging department at Lego threw 6 red ones in the box just to cause confusion.. Edited July 9, 20159 yr by Paul Boratko

Are they good for parts?I've never really paid much attention to that set

That said.. I follow http://www.newelementary.com/ blog.. and it's a bit interesting how many new colours have been coming out lately.. esp with the Friends/Elves series... I almost wonder if they are heading back down this path... albeit a bit more selectively (ensuring that the sets in question DO sell like hotcakes)
July 10, 20159 yr 40?! Are they good for parts?I've never really paid much attention to that set A few years ago I found a seller selling them on Amazon VERY cheap(Like $25 each I think? Eric will remember) At that time, it was the only set that ever had these tires in it.. Unfortunately it only had 2 of them.. Edited July 10, 20159 yr by Paul Boratko
July 10, 20159 yr ??? That part doesn't come in Nitro Muscle. You must be thinking of something else. it's got two in grey according to the instructions and catalogue, but mine came in red in three independent sets.
July 10, 20159 yr I've got Lego from as far back as the 1970s, so I'm sure some of it is very rare indeed. Haven't bought a new style Technic set (yet!) so don't really have any of the aforementioned pieces in this thread.
