You know what sucks about Nintendo? They keep these old crappy technologies, they keep on releasing same old titles (Zelda, Mario, etc.) over and over again and they are too afraid to try anything new. I tell ya, Nintendo is driving itself into the ground. The future of consoles is in the hands of Sony and Microsoft (sadly) but I hope one day PCs will make a big comeback and kill off all consoles.

I disagree with all the statements *wacko* Nintendo is higly innovative. Dual screen, think about it... mmhh ? *twisted*

They keep bringing the good old titles but people love them. And each zelda is different, some of the latest ones are far better than the old ones. Not to mention they are the only one to allow you to play your old games on the new technologies. And for computer games the market is just huge. I don't know how you can state PC doesn't already kick console's buts. I can't talk for the US, but in my country (and in Germany) the computer market is bigger than the console market. :)

Yeah, that's Europe but in Canada, almost everyone has a console, in fact a couple even have a PS2 and Xbox. When I told my friends I don't got a console, they were so surprised, I don't know why. There's actually this guy who brings his Xbox to school and we got a TV in the lunch room so he hooks it up to that TV and up to 4 people play. My question is why do they play non-stop on those damn consoles, when you could go outside and play a sport, especially during school lunch?

Well that's probably because then they wouldn't be obese, wouldn't suffer diabeth, would maybe study and become clever. This situation would become a huge problem for politicians :-D

I think video games are great. The only problem is to know when to stop playing :/ It can become really difficult in the case of some games like counter strike in which each round is 3/4 minutes. 'only one more mum, i promess' :-D

I also don't like consoles because their resolution is much lower than on PCs. If you have seen screen from the Doom 3 PC version and another from Xbox, you'd notice how much crappier the graphics are on the Xbox. I've played Counterstrike and I hate it. I don't like this one shot, you're dead thing. One game I never got bored of playing is Unreal Tournament 2004. Hit and run, total mayhem and destruction. It's fast-paced and just plain addictive and that's one game which would not be able to be duplicated easily onto consoles.

As for the stop playing part, well, when my eyes get puffy, stingy and it's very hard to concentrate on the picture, then I know I had enough. I take a small TV break and then I come back. :-D

L-O-L

You could not say anything wronger, Nintendo is the one who takes risks and try to make anything new, and not only more graphic and beautiful games. (except the Eye Toy, which I admit is a quite good thing). You'll see the next Nintendo console at the E3, which name is Revolution. It's said to be played with a virtual fist (I don't know, nobody knows except them, the details)

By the way, they innovated in many things, Mario in 3D for example. And now their games are "different" from PS2 and Xbox ( *sick* ) ones.

I'm too for Pc's, therefore the goal is different, Pc is more fore strategics, mouse-played games and consoles for joystick games.

Edit : DS 5, PSP 4 *twisted*

The only good thing about Nintendo is Resident Evil 2.

And how is bringing old titles back over and over again taking risks?

And about DS, why do you need 2 screens?? It's just plain stupid, what's next, TS? And I've seen the screens, they're so small and graphics outdated by years. I just can't believe it's sold out in Europe. If PSP would have been launched earlier, it would have kicked DS' megablocks.

Possibly...but it didn't for those of us in Europe in the States. At best, in Japan, it launched near the time. Why Sony didn't choose to release it in other markets before Christmas is explainable, but still not the most sound decision.

Right now, I'd say both systems are plagued by a few things, chief among them a lack of attention grabbing titles. The PSP has impressive hardware, and thankfully Sony of America is taking great steps to recify the quality control issues. But then again, the gameboy thrived against competitors who generally always had more advanced hardware.

Given a few months, though, I think we'll see the immergence of some high quality games that play to the strengths of both systems. Then, a better comparison can be made.

I really love competition, it really makes the competitor better and more innovative, especially in the evergrowing market of consoles and portable consoles. We, the consumers really benefit from that.

Nintendo always ruled the portable market and by far. They crushed all competition on this market. A friend had the portable SEGA one which was really amazing for the time, but...... (every one know of Sega's downfall - too bad BTW :'( ).

I have to say that Sony did something really huge with the PSP, attacking Nintendo on their goldmine!!!!

Like Akkhraziel said, we have to wait for a better comparison. Games are never that great at the beginning because developpers don't use 100% of the machine's capacity. It will be interesting this christmas to see how the battle rages ;)

One thing for sure, the Xbox will not be portable, because this market is not big enough for 3 competitors, or they will suffer Sega's fate!!

There are at least two games that will come out on PSP that will make it a hit, Grand Theft Auto and Midnight Club 3 - DUB Edition.

MGS? what's that?

And since nobody's reading my Doom thread, I'll post this here, I got the Resurrection of Evil Expansion for Doom 3 today and even though I can't play it due to large amounts of hmwk left on the last day of the weekend, I installed and played just a few minutes. It is awesome!

On ohter possible good PSP news, it looks like The Ark of Utnapishtim might be making a port over...that'll be sweet.

On the DS front, Metriod Hunters is getting closer.

Good games all around.

One thing is that PSP can go online and can download MP3 onto it's memory stick. DS will soon go online on the 11th but you have to have it added on. PSP can already go online, and the chip inside the PSP which makes it go online is BUILT-IN! Unlike DS, Nintendo keeps on making add-ons for the DS...But if you get a PSP, you'll already have everything BUILT-IN! :D

DS also has a lack of games...Sprung? Zoo Keeper? Ping Pals? Pokemon Dash? Retro Atari Classics? I mean, look at PSP's games! Grand Theft Auto! Untold Legends! DarkStalkers Chronicle! Wipeout Pure! Metal Gear Acid!

PSP's graphics are just TOTALLY amazing! |-D The graphics are much better than DS's graphics...

With no offense to sony, but there are products that do this better. I enjoy the PSP as a gaming platform. But if some of the hike up in the very high price was due to the inclusion of this feature, I 'd rather have a cheaper PSP and an iPod, personally.

At the moment, the most I'm interested on in either system is the wi-fi capabilites, which both have. The notion of taking the effort to play a portable system online is not real appealing to me. I'd much rather do that with a gaming console. And even with the fact that the PSP has it built in, it does little good unless game makers incorporate that into the game design. Its the same problem the DS is suffering from with the touch screen. ITs all well and good, but someone needs to do something with it.

DS also has a lack of games...Sprung? Zoo Keeper? Ping Pals? Pokemon Dash? Retro Atari Classics? I mean, look at PSP's games! Grand Theft Auto! Untold Legends! DarkStalkers Chronicle! Wipeout Pure! Metal Gear Acid!

Well, let's first address the PSP games. GTA...haven't seen it yet, can't really comment whta its going to look like. Untold Legends: I own this one. Great game. I do enjoy it, but its aliasing issues are a little annoying as well as the annoying habit that monsters chasing you run faster than if you are facing them. A few glitches that needed working out. Still, protable Diablo II style action is great. Darkstalkers Chronicles: A lovely port of a great series. I imported Vampire Savior for the Saturn, this game is just gorgeous. Wipeout Pure: Not a racing game fan, this one does nothing for me. Metal Gear Acid: Heard some interesting things...but not sure if I'm all that interested in a card game. Heard lots of people dissapointed with that aspect. Don't forget Lumines, its supposed to be a great puzzle game.

You also forgot to emntion some of the good games on the DS. Super Mario 64 DS is a great port of a good platformer. Warioware Touched and Fell the Magic appeal very well to the mini-games crowd.

So in essence, I stand by my first assessment. THe PSP is a great sysem, I'm just not completely certain its 100$ more great than the DS. Time will tell if both systems can get some truly killer apps, and appeal across their thus far genre specific niches.

Guys, 2 things:

1) I played Ridge Racer on PSP and I can't tell how incredible it looks :oo

2) PSP since january sells a lot better in Japan than the DS: A couple of figures

January: 450 000 DS - 360 000 PSP

February: 195 000 PSP - 121 000 DS

March: 202 000 PSP - 136 000 DS

In total, 1,8 millions DS - 1.09 millions PSP.

I don't own either because LEGO takes most of my free/hobby time and money. I voted DS though. I am a die hard Nintendo fan for many reasons but mostly because of the games. I am a casual gamer not a hardcore gamer (or a wannabe hardcore like most people pretend to be). ;) Games for Nintendo have always been about having fun playing a game |-D , not intensely immersing yourself in a surreal world of a game in which you spend hour upon hour of hack/slash, shoot um' up, roleplay or any other such thing. :o

PSP has excellent graphics +, good games (in some peoples opinion) +, and has all sorts of other media extras +. It costs $250 dollars -, has a low battery life -, is not pocket sized -, and needs a protective case to prevent it from getting scrathed-. |-/

DS has good graphics +, good games (in some people opinion) +, and has no media extras (good if you don't want them bad if you do) +/-. It costs $150 +, has a long battery life +, is pocket sized (which a "portable" should be) + and needs no protctive case +. :)

To me DS is a portable gaming system and if I was to get a gaming system, this would be the one. PSP is a portable media system and if I was to get a media system, I would get a new iPod. ;) |-D

Does anyone remember great games for the SNES like Warios Woods, Zombies Ate my Neighbors, or Super Mario RPG? Those games were awesome. If they ever ported those to a new system I would certainly buy it. The good old days when games were about games not life like graphics and wireless internet play. You know, when you had friends* that would get together and play games. Everything is electronic now. :'(

*Real life friends, you could see and you knew their real names and hair color and what not. :oo

Yeah, they're so damn expensive. I'm saving up $450 for mine, since I'll be getting a 1GB memory stick, too. For, um... music? Wait, I've got an iPod... gee, I dunno, I sure don't have any downloaded movies to put on it. ;)

I know its great, I played it, but I don't have enough free time to read, play PS2 (or Cube), build Mocs, spend time here with you guys...

I work during the week, I do chores on the week-end and I also work for my dad, I'm telling you, not enough free time.

A little advice Bloody Jay, enjoy your teen years while you can ;)
