I have been a modeler of many different platforms for over 30 years. I started lego when you could only build houses with walls and no roof. Oh and fences.

My step-son came along 10 years ago and it re ignited my love for the bricks.

I have a ton of Ho scale trains but im going to make my layout with legos. Im burned out on track polarities and shorts so all plastic and power functions for me.

Here is the stuff my son had and no longer plays with (stupid video games)

He has more track. I just have to find it in 15 boxes of mixed broken up starwars and city sets

Im going to get two of the current cargo trains and make the Maerks the main loco of the group and move on to making my own with the other #8882 motors.

There are a few things i dont understand. Why dont they just sell straight track.

We have enough curved track to go around the house but only 5 straights

Will one of you please point me to a tread on how to make six wheel trucks with the gearing for the #8882 motors

Thanks for looking

I also plan to sell some of my "investment" sets i bought long ago to finance my building

I don't know why Lego doesn't sell packs of straights, but if you want more straights, stores on Bricklink.com sell it, they have over 8000 pieces , url is http://www.bricklink.com/search.asp?colorID=85&itemID=64722, and there is also ME Models which sell custom Lego Train Track with wider radius in R56, R72, R88 and R104 Radius (Standard Lego Curves are R40 Radius) the webpage address is http://www.me-models.com/store/index.php?cPath=22_57_59&osCsid=a1k52p106tp4acm1go751n0r41 for their plastic track, you do have to assemble it and it is the same color as Lego RC Train Track.

That is a great collection of sets and should keep you busy for quite some time. You can buy straight track from lego, 8 segments for $20 (plus a bunch of flex bits). You can get double length straight segments from ME Models for a little cheaper. You might still be able to find Enlighten track (looks to be a direct copy of the lego track only in brown... well... the switches look to have substituted a really low quality mechanism).

U have some great sets there. Emerald night and maersk and that double switch track. All expensive now to buy trust me :(!

Lego also do straights on the pick a brick wall, look around for the best price, have fun

Welcome to the Wondrous world of trains! You have a pretty good collection going on their some rare and some almost 10 years old themselves (The white ice train 7897 and also the crane car from 7898). I hope to see more of you in the future with some great train layouts to come and maybe some mocs.

Also just a side note the Double crossover track is a desired piece of track worth $100-$110 used depending on the condition so you are lucky to have it. I always thought I didn't need it but I wish I had bought one now knowing the price now.

Best Wishes

P.S. Excuse your wallet slowly getting lighter it is a normal symptom of Lego Trains!

Wow the double cross over is that much. Dang. I call it the pasenger train derailer because it used to struggle to get through it with out stalling or tipping over.

Im still looking for a bogie truck that can be used with this motor

I think it is called a bogie. I call them trucks. I saw one on here. It had a a cone gear that drove the axles and the springs were made from small lego peices. The main part was made from tecnic looking parts and gears.

Next im going to spend the time to find all the parts and get the sets "complete" again. I found the manuals and more track. It kicked up many memories of me finding the bricks for my son to put them together.

You have 100 billion pieces of round track because every train (Creator trains not included) come with either a circle or oval of track. Out of the gate straights are useless. You have two trains on the same combined track, you'll have some spares. You have 6 trains and you'll have way the heck too many round pieces, and sadly no where close to enough straights. At least the stations come with a couple of straights, otherwise you actually may not be able to implement them into your setup!!!

I built some wooden tracks from 24" strips of thin rectangular (balsa?) wood from the hardware store and used popsicle sticks as sleepers. I think it works out to $1/ft and the height of the tracks is very close to lego. When I first started out I was surprised I couldn't find any threads on people using wood. I've been thinking of posting a video of my small loop that has three sections of these and they seem to connect pretty well with the lego plastic track even in my temporary, crude setup. I've also seen plastruct and metal drywall corners used, but I'm new to trains and haven't seen much except online.

Great so I won't be alone in this pit by myself, God Lego trains are like crack. Welcome aboard!!!

Welcome to Train Over-achievers Anonymous

My username is Murdoch, and i'll be you guide through this particular money pit.

Well, my name is Gary and I have built one MOC train and have another currently under construction.

I also am no longer racking up VIP points because all of my LEGO money goes into Pick-A-Brick and BrickLink to build my monster of a locomotive.

I also see u have the emerald night there too. Probably the best Lego train out there :) get dusting!
