CMP Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 "Maybe the Trench has what we're lookin' for. Somethin' has to be screwin' over these Mythril shipments.
Waterbrick Down Posted August 21, 2015 Author Posted August 21, 2015 The group thanks Xor for his time and begins to make their way to Frumpkinknob. "Yah have to understand, Frumpknob was the last of the Dwarven cities to be colonized and it wasn't a city proper till a couple decades ago. The city grew up around the mythril mines and as the mines expanded so did the city." Dumora unfurled a map of Frumpknob. "The city is built on cascading tiers with the mines at the lowest levels, smelting and production above that, and then the residential and commercial areas at the top. Most of the transportation is conducted via stairway and long polished slides, but most of the ore is shuttled via a system of elevators."
Sandy Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 "Thank you for your cooperation. We will be back", Ellaria said to Xor Bixbeard, trying to maintain her posture. "Very well, we will start at the residential district and try to find our way to the lower tiers."
Peppermint_M Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 "Hopefully there will be something to hit. That worm was too animal to be the cause, but someone may be controlling those fearsome beasties."
Waterbrick Down Posted August 22, 2015 Author Posted August 22, 2015 (edited) The Party makes it to the outskirts of Frumpknob and as they travel, Atramor notes some soiled scraps of paper scattered upon the ground. Upon closer inspection the drafter realizes that the scraps are actually pieces to a map, though it's difficult to tell how they all fit together. What is clear is that the pieces look like the could be arranged in a three by three grid. "Huh, looks like the pieces to a rail-map, as long as all the colors match up and the studs are across from a plate, I think we could piece this back together." QM Note: Feel free to rotate the pieces and rearrange them as you wish. PM the solution for experience, you'll have 24 hrs. If it wasn't clear, you'll need to match the colors and make sure the corresponding colored stud is next to a plate. Edited August 26, 2015 by Waterbrick Down
Waterbrick Down Posted August 23, 2015 Author Posted August 23, 2015 Unable to piece the puzzle together for the time being, the Party continues onward and soon finds themselves on the first level of the city of Frumpknob. "Not much on this level except for residences, but I'm sure you'll plenty of folks to talk with if you want."
Sandy Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 Abandoning her attempt to figure out the railroad schematic, Ellaria approached the orcish wizard. "Greetings, Master Orc. Fancy meeting another surface-dweller this deep underground."
Jebediahs Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 Nur nodded to the dwarf with the greying beard. He found the flecks of black distracting and tried not to let it interrupt his diplomatic charm. "Greetings friend. Tough shift? Could use a six month vacation twice a year, am I right?"

Fancy meeting another surface-dweller this deep underground." "T'would be if Jimmimiah were a surface dweller, lovely lady." The orc removes his hat and bows deeply. "Jimmimiah is but a lowly cavern diviner. And who does Jimmimiah have the pleasure of addressing?" Nur nodded to the dwarf with the greying beard. He found the flecks of black distracting and tried not to let it interrupt his diplomatic charm. "Greetings friend. Tough shift? Could use a six month vacation twice a year, am I right?" "If you're a lousy rusty pick-axe I suppose. Nay, I just got off an exhilarating shift, we were digging through an anticline when we came upon a magnificent rider, the fellows and I set upon it like a ripper, making sure we left a good deal of pillars before we ended up at a hogsback. Nothing like a good old hogsback am I right?"
Jebediahs Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 His signature grin still frozen upon his face, Nur had no idea what the miner was talking about. "Right on, brother. But is it as bad as they say down there? Are the mines really drying up?"
Waterbrick Down Posted August 23, 2015 Author Posted August 23, 2015 The dwarf shrugs. "Beats me, my crew has been putting out great production for the past three days hitting vein after vein. There are five other crews, so maybe we're just lucky. We did just get a new Load Worker 450, so that's made a few things easier."
Jebediahs Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 "That is indeed fortunate for you. Do you know how the loader was procured? On loan from Kogs & Company and shared with the other workmen? Or does a rivalry exist among the work crews. What is the designation or nickname of your crew and the others? "
Waterbrick Down Posted August 24, 2015 Author Posted August 24, 2015 "Oh we've slowly been replacing the loader older models, we're currently paying off the lease on the new one to Kogs. Each of the crews tend to their own equipment and while we may get a bit fiesty with the other crews, it's a good ol' fashioned rivalry on who can put up the highest numbers, last month as the Drilling Dragons. Mine be the Gratin' Golems, then you've got the Rushing Rubies, the Debating Dozers, the Enervated Excavators, and the Quarrying Quakers."

Ellaria thought it best to keep her career as an alchemist a secret, knowing mages usually look down on potion-makers. "How long have you been living down here? And what exactly is your job description? I bet the Scarlet Worms have caused you trouble lately. Me and my companions just slew a couple of them. Nasty creatures..."

Perhaps you'd like to continue your good fortune by rubbing the head of my companion then? Alfred! Remove your head scarf! My friends and I plan on heading down...we ran into some worms and are hopin' to find out what spooked 'em."

"Jimmimiah is glad to make Ms. Arbour's acquaintance, Ms. Arbour. Jimmimiah is afraid Jimmimiah is not acquainted with Eubric, though Jimmimiah is sure it must be a lovely country. Jimmimiah was born in Brumpknob and has been living down here for twenty nine years. Ellaria has never heard of a Cavern Diviner? Cavern Diviner, like geomancer, Jimmimiah assists mining crews by telling them where to dig and pointing out weak spots in tunnel construction. Jimmimiah also helps unclear cave-ins where digging machines cannot reach. Scarlet worms are just big puppy cats, no trouble to miners if unprovoked. Jimmimiah working on way to tame worms though." Atramor approaches the dwarf in the large hat, looking down into the abyss from the cavern's edge. "Hey there, mate. Don't tell me ya' go down into that every day to mine?" "Nope, I've got the pleasure of going down into this every day to smelt. Careful now, I've got a load of fresh slag coming up now." Atramor notices a small elevator platform rising filled with carts of darkened metal. "The Golems eh? Perhaps you'd like to continue your good fortune by rubbing the head of my companion then? Alfred! Remove your head scarf! My friends and I plan on heading down...we ran into some worms and are hopin' to find out what spooked 'em." "Aren't you a strange sort, can't say I ever saw one of these things up close." The dwarf pats Alfred on the head. "Worms? Like Scarlet ones? Strange, usually they avoid us and we avoid them. We'll run into one every once and a while down there, but we just let 'em be until they've passed on through. If you're heading down into the mines themselves, make sure you don't forget your safety gear." Edited August 24, 2015 by Waterbrick Down

"A mighty beard you have grown, Jimmiah, for a twenty-nine-year-old... Anyway, the Scarlet Worms we encountered attacked us through the ground, as if controlled by someone. Are you the only one who has been taming them? Or have you been taming them for someone specific? This is important, for we fear for the safety of these cities."
Waterbrick Down Posted August 24, 2015 Author Posted August 24, 2015 "Jimmimiah proud user of Ewin McGregor's beard cream. As far as Jimmimiah knows, Jimmimiah only one working on spell. Besides, Frumpknob not have any issues recently with Scarlet Worms." The orc unfurls a scroll. Scroll of the Chasm (When cast, has a 50/50 chance to tame a Dark monster for the next six rounds at the cost of 10 ether)

Waterbrick Down Posted August 24, 2015 Author Posted August 24, 2015 (edited) "Oh this is just the slag, it works for a building material, but that's about it. There's plenty of Mythril, it just ships directly from smelting onto the rail system on the lower level." Edited August 24, 2015 by Waterbrick Down

I carry some armoured equipment that is quite strong but it's rather clunky and heavy so I don't often wear it."

"Might ye know where I could rent some safety gear? I carry some armoured equipment that is quite strong but it's rather clunky and heavy so I don't often wear it." Jebediahs Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 "Will do. Thank ye, friend." Nur made his way towards Ellaria and Jimmimiah but stopped at the young looking dwarf. "'Ello there. Headin' into the mines for work too?"
