Sandy Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 "That they do, the issue you see isn't just lettin' one of you surface dwellers setting up shop down here, it's more an issue of where do you draw the line. My people are a proud one and they wouldn't want anyone coming down here and takin' their rightful work. While such products as yours do indeed interest me and I think they'd be finely appreciated down here, the issue's a much bigger one and out of my jurisdiction I'm afraid. You'll have to speak to the Head Chief about it, but you can at least be assured that you've peaked my interest. Strange though, can't think of many surface dwellers who'd willingly want to leave the light, I'd suggest you spend some more time down here before making a decision, it's quite an undertaking, really." "I shall speak with the Head Chief, then. He lives down at Brumpknob, isn't that right? Is there any way I could get some sort of writ of approval from you, to make it easier for a surface-dweller such as me to approach him?" Ellaria was a little frustrated that her little ruse was not giving much in the way of results. At least it could get them to the right places.
Peppermint_M Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 As Tensi leans against one of the mooring posts a spear toting dwarf dressed in chain-mail and a red tunic approaches. "Look lively, no loitering about." "'m not loitering. I'm guarding." Tesni gestured to where Ellaria was talking. "See? Ladyship's bodyguard me. Keeping a good eye for any monsters and that. Had to beat back a bunch of leeches on the way in, don't want my employer to get et by anything 'cos I wasn't looking right? Looks bad on the old writ of work for a start." She shrugged. "Not sure if things can get in here but gotta be safe than sorry."
Jebediahs Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 Nur kept his eyes on the rooftops and cavern ceiling. He couldn't pinpoint exactly when, but he'd developed an everlasting sense of dread when it came to being attacked from above. He made his way towards the dockworkers the deaf dwarf was yelling at and peered down the alleyway before addressing the workers. "Might ye lads be needin' a hand? My squire and I don't appear to be much but we are quite strong."

I know how that goes, you should look into Odmin's Smithy if you're traveling further under, fine selection of weaponry he has there. Figure you'd be appreciative of his art given the number of blades your carryin'." Nur kept his eyes on the rooftops and cavern ceiling. Nur recognizes one of the workers as the captain of their transportation from earlier. "No, we've just about got the last of..." At that moment the chest slips the Dwarf's grasp and falls into the water. "Sod."

"Thank you very much, Chief Kulbin. Just one more inquiry: what horrible accident happened to you, and how did you manage to get your bodyparts replaced by metal? I have never seen such craftsmanship outside the Tritech Corporation. Apparently your people are more skilled than we surface-dwellers ever knew!"

I have a few plans for these blades of mine and a good smith is always welcome."
CMP Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 "Glub, slimy wyrms? These are some of the best electric eels in all Krumpknob!" The Teuthisal smiles as the Drafter slips him some gold. "Right, glub, Ms. Thisbeen. Lives just a few houses down." The Teuthisal indicates a tan one-storied structure just beyond the house Ellaria had stopped at. "Stops by my stall every other day to pick up some pickled puffers." "Hm. Thanks for the help then, mate." Atramor shuffles over to the rest of the party in wait for them to regroup.

He thought it best not to chase the fleeing figure and severely separate the group in this unfamiliar city.

I've heard tales of the easterners with their machines and flying boats, interesting indeed. Dwarven cog-works aren't built for fancy tricks, no we build for durability, most of 'em are actually used in the minin' operations in Frumpknob. These..." the Dwarf holds up his hand, "came from a couple years back we had some problems with a golem invasion. Nearly caused part of Krumpknob to be sank." "Hm...Oh. Allow me to assist." "Well now, that's the second time you've saved my cargo, I'm sure Ms. Thisbeen is going to be quite appreciative of saving her fine laces. If yer friend the navigator ain't interested in joining the crew, maybe I could entice yourself and your man-servant."

Ellaria shuddered at the mention of golems. Her last adventure was still weighing heavily on her mind. "Don't even start with golems! They seem to make a habit of running rampant at the slightest mistake by the commanding mage... I am sorry for your injuries, but on the other hand, I am thrilled science and technology has been able to help you were magic has failed. It has been great to make your acquaintance, Chief Kulbin, and may our business continue in the near future." Ellaria returned to the others, with the chief's letter in hand. "Alright, I got us a ticket to see the Head Chief in Brumpknob! What have the rest of you found out?"
Peppermint_M Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 "Blacksmiths! Odmin's Smithy is somewhere about. Uh, maybe I should have asked where..."
CMP Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 Atramor nodded towards the house he'd been directed to. "Our Lady Thisbeen lives there. She's the one that has the only piece of Mythril at the shop on hold. Seems relevant. Honestly though, I ain't quite sure where to go from here. Fru mentioned a group of adventurers found that big vein a few years ago, aye? The likeliest place for them to stop on their way in would be the tavern, obviously. Maybe we ought to find it and ask some questions about them. After we see this Chief, I s'pose."

Ellaria then lowered her voice. "And let us not forget our mission here, to find out if the mythril veins have run out or not. This Lady Thisbeen sounds like she could provide us with answers. Also, Chief Kulbin mentioned golems attacking the mines, so we might have to go up against those at some point. If it ever happens, it will be too soon for my taste."
Peppermint_M Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 "Let us visit Lady Thisbeen then. We can stop off at the smithy too, they've always got their ear to the gossip and can hammer up a good blade too. Not to mention they work with the sparkly stuff."
Jebediahs Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 En Sabah Nur nodded to the dwarf captain before rejoining his team. "Apparently this Ms. Thisbeen is now in our debt as I have just saved her unmentionables from certain doom!" With fists on his hips and arms akimbo, Nur took a wide-legged stance basking in his own "greatness." He'd never truly adopt all that was necessary to be a chivalrous knight but it was fun to pretend.
Waterbrick Down Posted May 13, 2015 Author Posted May 13, 2015 The party knocks on Ms. Thisbeen's door and are called to come in. Inside an older female dwarf is conversing with a younger, heavily armored dwarven woman. "You don't understand Dumora, it's not that I don't trust you it's simply a matter of..." The elder dwarf pauses upon seeing the heroes, "Why hello there, can I help you?" QM Note: Nur, does your servant accompany you? I guess moving forward I'll assume he's with you unless you specify otherwise, sound OK?
Jebediahs Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 OoC: Ah yes, feel free to assume he always follows me around. I'm trying to use the roleplay of the golem having to carry Nur's shield when it's not actively floating (like in combat) as an excuse as to why Nur doesn't treat him as a true NPC...like not sending him to chase the running figure down the alley while he handled the chest that fell into the water. En Sabah Nur and the Seneschal enter the room first. "Ma'am." The mage nods before making room for the other heroes.
Waterbrick Down Posted May 14, 2015 Author Posted May 14, 2015 As Nur's golem enters the room, the older dwarf stiffens. "Dumora, I don't think these folks mean well." The younger dwarf draws a short sword as a strange light enters her eyes. "If this is a robbery, you've surely chosen the worst spot. A shout and we'll have half a dozen guards here, but you'll also have to me to deal with."
Sandy Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 Ellaria raises her arms to show innocence - almost hitting the ceiling of the dwarven-made house with them. Ellaria wasn't sure what the dwarven woman's profession was, but it seemed she knew something about the missing mythril. "My apologies for barging in, Lady Thisbeen. I am Doctor Ellaria Arbour from the alchemist's guild in Eubric, and this tough-looking crowd are my bodyguards. Perhaps this brave dwarven warrioress is yours? In any case, I heard you are...err, an influential member of this community, and I wanted to ensure your favor. I am establishing a trading contract between my guild and the dwarven cities, you see."
Waterbrick Down Posted May 14, 2015 Author Posted May 14, 2015 "Influential? Perhaps you are referring to my late brother? The Thisbeen family have always been one of distinguished traders and merchants, but I can't be giving out recommendations willy nilly, I don't even know you and I am not in the business my brother was." "If they take to the company of golems, what more is there to know..."
Sandy Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 Ellaria rushed to appease the situation. Trying to pry information while knowing so little proved to be difficult. "Influential? "I truly apologize, I did not know about the tragedy in your family. I talked to Chief Kulbin, and he told me about the troubles your city went through some years ago. Was that when you lost your brother, Lady Thisbeen? He must have been a mythril miner, then?" "If they take to the company of golems, what more is there to know..." "Chief Kulbin also told me about the dreadful business with the golems. I assure you, Alfred here is totally under our control. Do golems still cause trouble over here, then?"
CMP Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 Atramor scratches his chin and nodded to the warrior dwarf. "Aye, Alfred here's harmless. Ya' look like a dwarf who's spent time fightin', are ya' onna the mine guards? I hear the golems are a bit of a problem."

Was that when you lost your brother, Lady Thisbeen? He must have been a mythril miner, then?" "Miner? I come from Clan Krumpkin, we don't mine, you'll have to see one of the Frumpkin's about that. But, yes he was killed in the cave-in that sealed the cities off from the outside world. On his way out with nearly a dozen boats of Mythril." Ms. Thisbeen sighs. "Chief Kulbin also told me about the dreadful business with the golems. I assure you, Alfred here is totally under our control. Do golems still cause trouble over here, then?" "They can still be found wandering the tunnels. Without a master they're pretty aimless these days, best to avoid them all the same. Every once and a while one will stumble into town and cause a ruckus." Atramor scratches his chin and nodded to the warrior dwarf. "Aye, Alfred here's harmless. Ya' look like a dwarf who's spent time fightin', are ya' onna the mine guards? I hear the golems are a bit of a problem." The Dwarf's eyes glow again as she grins. "Nay, I don't concern myself with simple guard duty. I'm a representative of Mythra, her voice, her judgement, a vindicator if you will and you can believe me, I've seen my fare share of fighting. Laurma, here is a good family friend."
CMP Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 "Sounds impressive. Bit like a paladin, but unlike them ya' look more like a real warrior and less like a plated-up priest. Did the golems 'round here have a master at some point? Is that what set 'em off in this invasion?"
Jebediahs Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 En Sabah Nur noticed the dwarf female had yet to put her sword away. Despite the tense situation he couldn't contain his curiosity... "Perhaps having satisfied my duties to the Doctor, I can provide a permanent solution to the golem infestation here. Ms. Thisbeen, was the boats' cargo ever recovered? And what are these gemmed items such as the one you are carrying?" Nur was already beginning to forget a knight's proclivity for tact.
