Is there any chassis difference? I want to take off the body of my 9398 and replace it with a 41999 body so i dont have to buy the actual 41999. What parts may I need and how can this be done?

Edit: Thanks for all the help. I have decided to redesign the body in a different color to avoid having to pay a lot of money. I am also going to try to use as many parts from the 9398 body as possible to save money. Using LDD I recolored it four times. This is the result:

The chassis from 41999 is 99% the same as the chassis from 9398, but there are a few small differences.

To see the differences, you could try downloading the building instructions for 41999 from the Lego website, and use them to rebuild the chassis again.

You can also use rebrickable.com to see which extra pieces you will need. Example here.

If you only have 9398, and you want the colours to match exactly, that will give you 65.9% of the parts that you will need to complete 41999 (chassis and body).

Please note that 41999 uses Dark Blue panels and beams, some many of which are exclusive and aren't available in any other Lego set. From here you have two choices - either use a different colour, or buy the required panels from bricklink.com (or similar) if they are available.

And of course you won't get one of the exclusive number plates, or the wheels with the white stripe around the rim, or the stickers.

You may or may not know this, but 41999 uses a chassis virtually identical to 9398, and for a good reason. To summarize, back in 2012/2013, Lego had a competition to see who could create the best new body using the chassis of 9398. The winner was ultimately our own RM8, with his design. I think there are only one or two differences between the chassis of the two sets. Your best bet would be to compare the chassis, from the instructions of 41999, to 9398. Also, I should warn you that 41999 uses a large number of pieces in dark blue, and some metalized pieces, and they are very rare and expensive. The wheels alone cost $7 a piece. But, you could make it in your own color scheme, like black and yellow, as RM8's original entry was. To build it, just download the 41999 instructions from Lego.com, and build it from when the chassis is finished. Also, it might serve you well to go to Rebrickable.com, and see what parts you need.

So simple just pick what colour you want to build it in check your parts place an order

Original parts are very expensive.

I've built the BOSS using yellow parts instead of the expensive dark blue.

The chassis is almost the same as the 9398, but you can better built it from scatch.

How much does it cost for the extra parts?

its very hard to find the fark blue parts...the set was limited to 20,000 and most of them were bought to be resold at hugely inflated prices....which is why you nevr see second hand sets, and as such you cant find parts in new or used condition, the closest colour would be blue...easily find those parts.

its moreso the panels that are the problem, and finding the 1x11 beams in dark blue.

Myself, I'm partial to the red and black one with the single wide stripe. Just an FYI, green parts tend to be a lot less common then red and black, and least in Technic. Also, if you go to the LDD/Digital tools subforum, there are a number of topics on how to get parts lists out of LDD, and export it to Bricklink.

I was leaning towards that too... thanks for the tip, I'll check out that subforum because it will probably save me a lot of time and effort.
