Dosenbrot Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 (edited) Greetings, We all now that LEGO likes to give us only half the cannons the ships can store. But do you Guys buy new cannons to fully equip the Ship? I currently have the 4195 Queen Anne's Revenge, the 6243 Brickbeards Bounty and the 10210 Imperial Flagship and I'm currently thinking about if I should order the missing cannons or not. What are you Guys thinking about this? Edited April 6, 2015 by Dosenbrot Quote
Yawgmoth Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 I normally use 24 - 32 cannons per ship :P so yeah... the base is the most expensive, curiously the cannon itself isnt that much Quote
Sir_Basil_Ashton Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 I have yet to build a pirate ship but I have ordered plenty of cannons to outfit the ones I have when I finally build them. Quote
Cervantes Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Where's the most economical place to buy cannos for Continental US? Quote
dr_spock Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Lately I ordered my extra cannons from Bricklink. In 2009/2010 I bought small Pirates set that have a cannon when on discount to get more cannons. I may buy small sets again now that there is a new wave of Pirate sets out. Quote
Capn Frank Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 I've got plenty of cannons. It's the brown wheels and brown carriages that I've gotten and cost me a lot. Quote
jodawill Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 When I was a kid, I only had two cannons – one from Fort Legoredo and one from Bandit's Secret Hideout. When I got back into Lego a few years ago, I went way overboard with the cannons. I probably have close to a hundred of them now. In the '90s, before we could order them through the Internet, it was indeed a dang shame that cannons were so uncommon. Ironically, now that they're so easy to come by online, they're also very common in the Pirates sets. Every set in this wave has at least one of them, which is a first. And they've fixed the coloring in them too. The 2009 cannons looked like crap. It's too bad so many of mine are from 2009. Quote
Dunedain Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 (edited) I always get extra cannons, so much so that I cant even count how many I must have now. I also picked up a TON of the Lone Ranger cavalry army packs from a year or 2 ago. They were good little sets for the cannons, brown bases and wheels, all for a cheap price, plus a white horse and 4 mini-figures too. You couldn't go wrong with that set. I probably got like 20 of them. So, on top of all the cannons I had already, I got a giant ziplock bag full of the cannons with their bases and wheels. Edited April 7, 2015 by Dunedain Quote
Matthias Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 (edited) Where's the most economical place to buy cannos for Continental US? I don´t know whats the cheapest way, but I can only warn you to buy them at bricklink. Brickling listed all the cannons from 2009 till 2015 as the same color. Thats wrong! If you order there you will get wrong collored cannons. Therefore the cheapest way to get the right cannons ist to order them at Bricks and Pieces on Lego.com. Edited April 7, 2015 by Matthias Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted April 23, 2015 Governor Posted April 23, 2015 Nay, I don't buy em, I plunders em off other ships! Quote
VintageLegoEra Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 If the ship has room for an Extra Cannon, then of course i am fitting a Cannon Quote
Captain Dee Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 Matthias is absolutely correct. If you want a guarantee that everything matches B&P is your best bet. Get them while we can! Quote
Bluecoat officer Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 I usually use cannons from other sets so I get the pieces, minifigs, and cannons (I think it is cheeper this way). Quote
Jreacher Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 I used cannons from my wild west sets, and lone ranger sets. Or i like to buy really cheap sets that have a minifigure and a cannon. But I do like to outfit all my ships with full cannons. Quote
Elephant Knight Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 i don't buy extra cannons for my ships. But since I buy all those cannons, may as well load up those ships that need em! EKnight Quote
Sebeus I Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 I don't equip all of my ships with cannons, that's why everytime I show off one of my ships, it looks complete. But the truth is that I do not have enough cannons to arm all of them. I did by some additional cannons a while back though, I used bricklink then. I normally use 24 - 32 cannons per ship :P so yeah... the base is the most expensive, curiously the cannon itself isnt that much Indeed, when I was buying parts for my corvette I only bought some pearl tinted cannon barrels and left the carriages because I found them to be too expensive. Perhaps someone can come up with a good carriage design that can fit the cannon barrels, so we don't need the expensive carriages anylonger . Quote
Captain Dee Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 I see I'm not the only one who has issues with the carriages. They look reasonable but indeed they are expensive... and fragile! For something that costs so much the clips for the barrel trunnions are just plain flimsy. The half-armament mentality at TLG is silly, even though it might save a couple dollars on bigger ships. Yes, I fully arm everything - but I find myself doing more custom guns and leaving the standard cannons on land. A really good custom doesn't cost that much (if you buy large quantities of the necessary pieces) and can be broken down for other things - without being fragile. Quote

The carriages are indeed flimsy at the actual canon joints. Even newer ones tends to break easily, or whiten and become ready to break... That's why i got many canons but not enough carriages. Maybe they introduce a cheap set including a fully fledged canon (with wheels, not rotating base) like back at 2009. With all these said, all war ships must be equiped with as many canons as possible. In real war ships there were as many as 50-60-70 at any given time. Edited May 16, 2015 by blackdeathgr Quote
Redbeards_Rum Posted May 24, 2015 Posted May 24, 2015 Recently picked up four for my imperial flagship! Now she is fully armed and operational Also just sourced two more for my Brick Bounty, I had to make sure the Flagship had eight so as to remain the power in my shelf....I mean my seas. Quote
Guybrick Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 I ordered two additional cannons for my 'Brick Bounty' (70413). I was initially a bit disappointed, that it wasn't fully equipped right out of the box. If you think about the reason of playability, then there is no need for it. But in the end it looks way much better and realistic. Quote

I do wonder why LEGO does not fully arm up its ships though? Especially with the Brick bounty, it actually looks like there are parts missing with the single stud piece empty on two of the cannon placements. Quote
