Posted April 11, 20159 yr LEGO Dimensions is introducing The Wizard of Oz into the LEGO world, so I thought it deserved its own topic, especially do to the high probability of sets in the future. The only thing announced as of now is the LEGO Dimensions Wicked Witch Fun Pack: I'm really excited for this, and I can't wait to see what else they bring! What do you guys think?
April 11, 20159 yr I was just coming to post this very topic! With the Wizard of Oz Ideas set being passed up, as soon as I saw this I couldn't help but think it must be because they already have/had sets in development. Now I'm very curious to see what else may come of it. Any other hints out there…?
April 11, 20159 yr I'm guessing they'll do a pack for Dorothy and the other main characters from the movie. The press release did mention more being revealed as the release approaches and I can't see them not giving us the main characters. I'm not particularly a fan of the movie but the minifigures in the trailer look awesome so I might have to get a hold of them. Plus it looks like a lot of new and interesting minifigure parts. I'm kind of hoping Dorothy includes a mini build of her house, perhaps as a weapon in game (I just think that would be oddly funny).
April 11, 20159 yr I hope this will be an official LEGO theme.... I love The Wizard of Oz I think that's the main point of this thread- why the heck would TLG go to the trouble of licensing The Wizard of Oz just to make a few minifigs, especially when they have plenty of witches and wizards in their existing lines to choose from? Gotta be a theme (or at least a few decent sets for the anniversary)!
April 11, 20159 yr why the heck would TLG go to the trouble of licensing The Wizard of Oz just to make a few minifigs, Warner Brothers is making the video game, and they own that wizard of oz. LEGO has paid noone for wizard of oz use in the game. expect more figs to be released in fun and team packs possibly. Edited April 11, 20159 yr by deskp
April 11, 20159 yr I remember a Wizard of OZ project on ideas. It didn't pass review state, naybe because of this. Or because it was just too oversized... but nonetheless the theme would fit perfectly in Lego's product line.
April 11, 20159 yr Okay, so let's get this right......Wizard Of Oz has been a Disney staple for a few years in various shapes and forms......Miss Piggy as the Wicked Witch. Now if sets do materialise my son is going to beg for them, all the films to do with Oz are among his favourite films. Dam, I need to buy a PS3 or 4 need......at least a WII U......dam Christmas is going to be expensive ! April 11, 20159 yr The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, written by L. Frank Baum in 1900 is in the public domain http://www.newmediar...z_public_domain Correct, but LEGO Dimensions Wizard of Oz stuff is based on the 1939 film by MGM (you can tell this by the logo with the MGM owned Ruby Slippers and how the small clip mirrored the movie). So, they did have to pay a nominal fee for licensing.

April 11, 20159 yr Uhmm... I'm not sure if this thread is necessary or has other more reliable references other than the Oz figure set? To me, starting a discussion right now seems relunctant. It's like that LEGO Ideas Team announced their Dr. Who cooperation before a set approved. Edited April 11, 20159 yr by Dorayaki
Well, it's a bit different in that they had specifically forbidden Doctor Who projects (presumably because another toy company had the license for Doctor Who building toys), then just said (at that point in time) that they were now allowing submissions. It wasn't a partnership of any kind that was announced. This is an actual product with (apparently) a new license already attached and, at least to me, it seems odd to set up a license just to produce a single minifig + accessory build. I would expect to see at least a line of CMFs, and probably a few sets otherwise, like I said, why not just use any of the existing witch or villain characters in their existing lines? I guess it could be just that fig (other licenses only have a single set, like BTTF), but I guess we're just hoping for more.
April 11, 20159 yr Seeing some LEGO Wizard of Oz stuff will be neat, but at the same time it will be sad if it's all available only with Dimensions pricing. Seriously, $15 USD for what amounts to an ok Witch minifig and a blue fez (because that's the only attractive part I see in the 'monkey') is quite a terrible price to pay. Hopefully there will be a set or two that have reasonable prices. Otherwise - cool to see how LEGO does Wizard of Oz, but not something I'd ever spend money on.
April 11, 20159 yr I desperately want this theme to happen. I'm not sure I'll be picking up the Dimensions game, but I'll be collecting all of the Wizard of Oz packs. My favorite film of all time--and a great choice for Lego!
April 11, 20159 yr I do think this particular license is a suitable one for LEGO, and even if it's a little surprising to see it become an official LEGO thing in this particular way, it's welcome. If nothing else, I hope it encourages more WOO MOCs from the EB community, which can go here in Licensed now. I wonder if there's about to be a slight uptick in transactions for green bricks at Bricklink and LEGO's own PaB... :p
April 12, 20159 yr not a fan of the film as such, but like the concept here. could see picking up dorothy and co for display "easter eggs". plus im sure the yellow brick road could be useful elsewhere, assuming they go that far with full sets.
April 13, 20159 yr I think it would be great to get Dorothy's Home, Marvel's Caravan, Munchinkland Square, The Field (where she meets Scarecrow), The Cabin (where she meets Tin Woodman), The Woods (where she meets Cowardly Lion), Witch's Castle, and Emerald City! :D
April 13, 20159 yr I don't know if they will do a major wave for The Wizard of Oz. However, the trailer shows a level with various other Oz characters in addition to the Wicked Witch. I think they really need to make the main characters to support that this world is really a LEGO world. I just have a sneaky suspicion that the Oz set won't have the Wicked Witch. This way even if you don't play Dimensions, you will have to buy the fun pack with the set to get all the characters.
April 14, 20159 yr Maybe they are testing the waters about how young fans react to The Wizard of Oz because you know.... it's a 75 years old movie
April 14, 20159 yr Maybe they are testing the waters about how young fans react to The Wizard of Oz because you know.... it's a 75 years old movie Ideas has done the fanbase testing and LEGO didn't give a damn about that ...... The Dimension set could test how many actual consumers are there. (In the worst case, if people just don't buy these for that price, I doubt that would work ). However, the trailer shows a level with various other Oz characters in addition to the Wicked Witch. I think they really need to make the main characters to support that this world is really a LEGO world. Well, sadly too many non-physical licensed characters are there in LEGO video game ranges. It's one of the reasons why FOLs are eager to see thos LotR and DC figures for this game Edited April 14, 20159 yr by Dorayaki
April 19, 20159 yr I'm all for anything Wizard of Oz - but to place an overly-obvious SuperHero tinge to it, as is clear by the Witch pack, I could really do without. It's like DC/Marvel mining the Oz-world for character - it takes something away from a very iconic, historical, and already fantastical environment. I don't know.... Disheartening. Should've left it alone, if this was the alternative to doing it straight-up. Too much chaser... If we see Wizard of Oz battle-packs, I swear, I'm going go all Michael Douglas over here. And I don't care from which movie. Edited April 19, 20159 yr by notaromantic
April 19, 20159 yr If we see Wizard of Oz battle-packs, I swear, I'm going go all Michael Douglas over here. And I don't care from which movie. I hope so! I need minifigures of Dorothy Gale, the Cowardly Lion, the Tin Man, a Flying Monkey, Fiyero, Glinda, ....
April 19, 20159 yr My preference would be that they treat the theme like the Simpsons and do a line of collectible mini-figs with one big set. Big Set - Emerald City (Either Oz's throne room or the Wizard's hot air balloon scene) Collectible mini-figs: -Dorothy w/ Toto -Scarecrow -Lion -Tin Man -Wicked Witch -Glinda -Wizard -Winkie Guard -Flying Monkey -Mayor of the Munchkin City -Lollipop Guild Munchkin -Lullaby League Munchkin -Coroner Munchkin -Female Munchkin -Emerald City Guardian at the Gates -Emerald City Citizen I suspect that something like this would be good enough for the Oz theme and they could stop there. But, of course, if it were super successful they could give us the Witch's castle, the forest with the talking apple trees, a Kansas set with sepia-colored figures and pieces, Munchkinland, the Horse of a Different Color, etc.
August 12, 20159 yr Their has been a discussion over on the DC 2016 page about a new nostalgic D2C set coming out in 2016. Is it possible that the nostalgic D2C set could a wizard of oz set? I think it's definitely possible.
