Although there a vast amount of sets in the CITY and classic town themes a lot of people will still not be happy with their city/town so they MOC and use things from other themes that may fit town/city. What sets, minifigs and models do you recommend from other themes for your city?

I will start. I recommend a lot of the Marvel range, you get quite a few buildings including the Daily Bugle which fits in no problems. Marvel is also a good place for vehicles, the amount of destickered SHIELD vehicle I have is ridiculous.

Super Hero sets make it into the city layout a lot. The buildings work well, Avengers tower, daily bugle, Arkahm asylum, Bat Cave, Joker fun house - we've had them all, at one stage, in the city layout. The Batcar has raced down main road to "get" the baddies, Spiderman has swung from Town hall or Pet Store, and unfortunately Hulk has smashed . . .

We mix space into some of our city layouts when we have the Alien Invasion theme. Everything works from spacey Lego themes.

- this happen often, especially the Alien Conquest theme

and the kids also love playing with Ninjago in the city layout.

Friends buildings would work well in any city, provided people don't mind the different colour scheme. I keep mine separate though as I also have a Friends layout, but the scales are the same.

Anything that builds on the same scale as City works, which is most of the licenced range. I have a few super heroes running around, though I don't have any of the larger building sets, I can't justify the extra cost even though the buildings are nice. I also have the TMNT in my subway and can't wait to put the Kwik-e-mart into my suburban section. I wouldn't mind putting up the Avengers Tower, though I think I will just MOC one up as I don't really want the minifigs and as a parts pack it is quite expensive.

I have included the Winter Village series into one section and the 2008-9 Agents series into another. There is a T-Rex that often causes havoc, when he's not battling the AT-ST that is. There is also a speeder-bike permanently in my car wash, it obviously doesn't work well, he's been in there for 3 years and is still covered in mud.

I like incorporating the 'Collectible Mini-figs' & 'Simpsons' into my scenes...also looking to build up my 'Lord of the Rings' stock of parts to build a more historical quarter/section to my town. Plus a recent acquisition of superhero/ comic book 'figs will inspire some MOD work of my existing modulars.

Not sure if you consider Creator separate from the CITY theme? If so, then I use the Modulars and Trains.

Friends (mainly the small fluffy animals (squirrels, bunnies & foxes)

some Techincs sets for construction equipment

Lego Education Community Minifigure Set to bootstrap having enough minifigs.

Yes there are some great CMF's that fit the towns really well and add some real interest!

I mostly use city, creator, town, friends, pirates and trains for my current town. If I had more room there would be a castle in there also, just like in older European towns.

If I had an airport I would love to have the Avengers Ouinjet in it.

I get mostly influenced (beside the whole city-stuff) by Creator, Friends and Movie sets. Last weekend I noticed the Ultra Agents sets. Well, they're coming with useful and interesting minifig parts. I guess, I'll give them a try.

My City is a few modulars and an in process MOC of a bike shop / apartments. I have quite a few of the CMF minifigs on the street and occasional super hero battles on the roof tops. Right now it is Nolen universe Batman and Joker on top of the Grand Emporium.

The vehicles in front of the modulars change with the season. During the winter holidays, I had the Creator Christmas tree truck going down the street. Other times, it is Super Heros armor car and LEGO Movie trash truck.

Currently I just have the TMNT Movie semi. I noticed last night though it looked like the semi was about to wipe out four skate boarders and a pizza delivery scooter. I move the semi further from the curb to prevent that.

If you are asking what I personally place into my city from themes other than the City theme itself, I would say everything. I rarely build anything official and place it in my town as is since I like making custom stuff. However I have no problem having a couple characters from Chima sitting at the local coffee house while The LEGO Movie firefighter mech is outside dealing with a couple tattooed bad guys from Ninjago as a TIE Fighter soars overhead. In reality I only have a few custom houses made from Creator sets on a shelf. Haha.

As for recommendations, I think Super Heroes sometimes have interesting vehicles as does Creator, Friends seems to have most of the buildings anymore far as businesses go, and then back to Creator which is a good place for making residential housing because people need to live somewhere unless they actually lived at work. Also there have been a growing number of professions done in the Collectable Minifigures line such as the recent Carpenter and Hotdog Suit Guy among the many released prior.

My city has Pirates, Space Police, Galaxy Squad, Adventures (is that the one with the Chinese castle?), Harry Potter, Castle, Friends, Superhero, Ninjargo.

I guess I use pretty much everything. I haven't found a place to put my old 90s alien bugs or the new ones though.

I'll buy sets from any series if there seems to be pieces or colors I want for my city... Right now I have city, Lone Ranger, friends, creator and movie sets that will be making their way into my city in some form. My city will be almost all modular. At this time it looks like a hurricane hit it as it has outgrown its current table and I am in the process of moving.
