May 13, 20159 yr Author After some thinking I've come to the conclusion that this contraption should work better with main axis oriented horizontally. Edited May 13, 20159 yr by sheo
May 20, 20159 yr Finally, I've got some pictures of this blasted thing in action: Album with pictures: https://www.flickr.com/gp/80022703@N07/G4U8Q4
May 21, 20159 yr Author Saberwing40k, thank you for the report! It's good to know that the concept is working!
July 1, 20159 yr Author Finally made this contraption in real bricks: I decided to use it as a seed part for a large spaceship.
July 1, 20159 yr That looks so good with the small death star! I'm eagerly awaiting the SHIP. (It will be motorized right?)
July 1, 20159 yr OMG... it looks awesome!!! I got right now taste to try it... when I had enough parts... :/ I'm looking forward for your video sheo! Max...
July 13, 20159 yr Very nicely executed. I like how you added the additional smooth parts (opposite gears) to keep the principal axes of inertia aligned with the axes of rotation. Also, in the above design, the rotations of the two inner gimbal rings are 'linked' to each other. I wonder if one can make the 3 rotations totally independent, so as to spin each of the axes independently of each other (with a remote). Edited July 15, 20159 yr by DrJB
July 13, 20159 yr Author DrJB, in theory it's quite easy: However, the hub of the outer ring becomes quite complex which is bad for the aesthetics of the contraption.
November 20, 20159 yr Author Made a frame for the 'gyroscope' which is actually a central section of the future spaceship:
November 20, 20159 yr Uuuuuhhhhhh... because: How many small panels? How many pieces? Spaceship? Technic? Yes, please, anytime! Edited November 20, 20159 yr by agrof
November 20, 20159 yr Wow that looks really cool, very convincing future spaceship. Very curious how it will look when it's done.
November 20, 20159 yr Really amazing and scary sci-fi thing. I'm looking forward to see it moving. Must be crazy. Max... Edited November 20, 20159 yr by MaxSupercars
November 21, 20159 yr Wow, this is truly fascinating. I have never seen technic spaceship of this size and the gyro makes it even cooler. Good luck on your further progress!
November 21, 20159 yr Author Thanks for the comments! I'm now working on the next section which will feature guns with a deployment mechanism.
November 22, 20159 yr I totally missed the progress on this: this is way awesome! I can't wait to see this finished!!
November 22, 20159 yr Author Sheo... can you make short video now of moving mechanism? Thanx. :) Not yet. I still don't have a video camera.
November 22, 20159 yr You got smartphone with camera... :P Max Edited November 22, 20159 yr by MaxSupercars
November 26, 20159 yr Author Update #3: Guns I have completed a basic part of a weapon module that features a guns deployment mechanism which comprises 3 stages shown in a slideshow below: 1. Rear guns are rising. 2. Rear guns are turning and front guns are rising. 3. Front guns are turning. The whole sequence is operated by turning the yellow knob which will eventually be replaced by a motor. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E0fNtzFSFC0 Edited November 26, 20159 yr by sheo
