banshee3 Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 (176D) Brig 10C In keeping with todays theme of the modified brick bounty, I will post my imperial-ifying version of said craft. I posted some prelim pictures of this up one day over on brickpicker, but I've since completed it with the full blue conversion. This mod uses no new piece types except the figurehead and new custom sails. everything else was a 1-1 color conversion red for blue, earth blue, tan or dark tan. Oh and I switched the cannons for the non firing / logo bearing versions and obviously the flag. Figurehead was created using spooky girl head, attached to pretty generic wedding dress type torso and slope. white hands, white bandana and small clam from an Ariel princess set. this is one of the older shots before I swapped the two "disabled" cannons with two non-firing logo cannons if only TLG made the tall slope in regular blue it would look seamless. A shot of her escorting her "mommy" outflanking the Black seas barracuda Looks like the crew of the clipper were not as prepared to mount an offensive Back on the shelf, it looks better than the old clipper lined up with the 10210 That's all. Captain Dee Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 Wow. I've never liked the striped sails but going blue really improved the look in my opinion. It's amazing what colors can do for a ship. Not much else to say considering that it's a basic MOD. You have a serious collection of ships! Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted April 25, 2015 Governor Posted April 25, 2015 This mod uses no new piece types except the figurehead and new custom sails. How were the custom sails made? Are they coloured with felt tip pen? Quote
Andrew_C Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 Nice. I like that. I've been contemplating an Imperial warship, though I suspect Lego may have one in the pipeline. I may build one similar to yours still :) Quote
banshee3 Posted April 25, 2015 Author Posted April 25, 2015 How were the custom sails made? Are they coloured with felt tip pen? Cotton cut into 8.5 x 11 inch sheets, fabric stiffener, fed into colour HP LaserJet. The color is not as dark as I would like, so I'm still looking on finding the right treatment to the canvas to get more toner absorption. I used GIMP to create the images for printing the sails, made out of recolored scans of the BB sails, and then the skull part replaced with parts of the new imperial flag. Quote
Captain Braunsfeld Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 Clever MOD! So, we all just need to buy the Brick Bounty a few times and follow your example - and then we'll have a bluecoat ship! I still wonder how you made your printer eat the cotton... just fabric stiffener? And I won't kill my ink jet? Quote
banshee3 Posted April 25, 2015 Author Posted April 25, 2015 I'm not sure about your inkjet. if it would feed okay (this depends on the stock-weight capacity of your printer) then I would think an inkjet might even apply a darker colour coat than I'm currently getting. Or maybe the ink wouldn't adhere to the fabric. I've read that for inkjets you have to treat the fabric with something first to allow the ink to set and not run. Additionally you would might need to back the cotton with freezer paper or something to get it to feed. Each printer is different and it depends on how much you're willing to gamble. 1.) I'm too cheap to use inkjet printers, they're just not cost effective. 2.) I had a second colour laserjet so I was willing to try this method out even at risk of breaking the device. Quote
Dunedain Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 Very nice MOD, I have 2 Clippers, and 2 Imperial flagships, one of which I also converted into a Bluecoat version, like you did. I am still looking to build up my Bluecoat fleet even more, but a lack of appropriate sails has prevented me. Seeing your custom sails is inspiring me to buy another BB and convert it, like you did. Alas, I still need those sails. I would LOVE to buy a set, or 2 of those exact custom sails that you made. If you were interested in making a few extra sets to sell, I would be willing to buy them. Let me know if you want to sell some of these sails, I would love to buy em from ya. Quote
Plaid Beard Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 Excellent work! The Bluecoats always have been my favorites, and I've always wished they had more firepower on the sea. Quote
Hive Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 Nicely done, it looks much better in blue. It no longer looks like a poor carbon copy of Brickbeard's Bounty. Too bad that you had to include dark blue. Quote
Rotaser Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 First reaction: that is indeed a great vessel. It looks even more appealing than the original pirate version. But (you knew there would be a but, don't you? ;-) ): the figurehead looks a bit too huge. Maybe a regular 2*2*1 white slope brick would solve this or maybe you could go without any "feet" at all just like the skeleton on the original bounty. If you are modding anyways, you cold try to reproduce the curved dark-blue piece with a couple of cheesies, slopes and plates in "regular" blue to avoid the colour mismatch. One huge advantage is, besides, to switch the 2*2 tile with the 2*2 mono-stud tile that holds the cannon in place. The advantage is that you are able to "move" the cannons one stud back and shut the hinges. All of this points are just suggestions and just theoretically. Your ship does look great even without them. Quote
Matthias Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 (edited) Your mod is great. I especially love the New homemade sails. You mentioned that you wanted them darker, but I think it siuts very good to the rest of the very nice new bluecoat flagship. Edited April 28, 2015 by Matthias Quote
dr_spock Posted April 29, 2015 Posted April 29, 2015 Nice MODs. Would printing on inkjet iron-on transfer paper work for making sails? Isn't Imperial Flagship was supposed to be Redcoats? Quote
banshee3 Posted April 29, 2015 Author Posted April 29, 2015 I'm clearly a bliecoats fan. I've only got a handful of red coat minifigs anyway. Besides they already have a flagship. I'm not familiar with the iron on transfers. Sounds like I should make a new thread that documents my sail making process. I suppose most people have inkjets. I'll steal my mother in laws inkjet, since I just gave her two laserjets. Quote
Bluecoat Governor Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 the ship you made was really good, I have always loved the imperials ever since 1989. Quote
Legocity2713 Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 Great MOD. I'm not really sure why Lego didn't give the Imperial soldiers a large ship in this line in the first place though. Excellent work, have always loved the blue colored pirate ship flags Quote
GeneralWashington420 Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 Looks like a neat ship, I look forward to getting the Brick Bounty. Quote
azog Posted March 24, 2016 Posted March 24, 2016 I literally just saw this ship for the first time! Man those sails though! Yeah when I got my imperial flagship I turned it into a bluecoat ship just because I love the French more than the British at this time, and are you still or did you ever sell those sails? I would love some I think! And anything new? New ships or anything else? Anyway great work and sadly we never did get a bluecoat ship :'( Quote
iammac Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 That last picture literally made me drool... You have an awesome collection! Thanks for answering my question before it was asked. I wanted to know how you got the cannons on the sails. Printer did a good job I should say! Keep it up matey! Quote
The Imperial Soldier Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 Great MOD. I'm not really sure why Lego didn't give the Imperial soldiers a large ship in this line in the first place though. Excellent work, have always loved the blue colored pirate ship flags I think it was simply to do with the way they released the original line in 1989. They seemed to have tried to get a broad mix of vessels and land based structures across the small range. So the Pirates got a big ship with smallish base and the Bluecoats got a smallish ship with a more fortified base. They should have really taken advantage of the next launches in 1991 and given the Bluecoats a bigger ship then. After all the Pirates got a bigger base with Rock Island refuge. After 1991 they changed the Bluecoats to Redcoats so the chance was lost. Quote
azog Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 It really does suck how they never did build a bluecoat ship! Its a nice thing there are websites like bricklink where we can build our own! Quote
Alex75 Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 Hello, I was astonished to by your collection ! Well done :) I am really enthusiastic seeing your modified brick bounty. I always wanted a match to pirates ship and your version doing it very well. Thanks ! Quote
