Yes, conversion to .obj with your files works but as you have pointed out there are no studs - initially I thought you are talking just about the top parts with logo-on-stud yet now as I actually test it I see you really meant whole studs, ah, pity. :sceptic:

Anyway, maybe there still is some way how to add them correctly to each of your brick (at least manually but that would be terrific work to do), so yea it'd be still great if you could make all those "normal" bricks once too. :classic:

Maybe it's better that you first find a way to add the studs, and then I will spend time creating the parts.

You can try to create your own stud in obj format and add it then to my parts converted to obj.

Yes, creating a stud is absolutely not a problem: I just load let's say 1x1 LDRAW brick into Blender and in Edit Mode I delete all except the stud BUT the main problem is how do I find exact position(s) for the respective stud(s) on the brick(s)? That would really be challenge... :sceptic:

Awesome job!!!

Could I make a request for a part that doesn't seem to exist (if there's to be any updates of your library, that is)?

It is part "4867 Tail Plane" (see link http://brickset.com/parts/4188568)

I can't seem to find it anywhere, so chances are that it doesn't exist as an include file for the LGEO library yet.

Thanks!

I can create it.

I can't tell you when, I need to find time to release a new update (I have 65 new parts to release).

Stay tuned...

You may want to put the lg_xxxx.inc files in your usual LGEO directory and the xxxx.inc files in another folder

Somehow I don't understand this a bit vague statement (absolute exactness would be rather expected so one will not do anything wrong): what directory/ies?

There are actually 2 folders inside LGEO directory:

  • "lg" (logic tells me you probably wanted to write "put lg_xxxx.inc files into lg folder inside LGEO directory", but as nothing is as it may seem it'd be really nice having it written like that)
  • "ar" (having no clue what is this one about)

So where should one put those "xxxx.inc" (STL) files - should we create new folder (cos that is as I understood it at first), or use some other already existing folder ("ar")? :wacko:

See, many of us can be really not aware of LDRAW exact structure so it'd be much more helpful if this part (sentence) was written/described in more detail than that...

I found your brick models looking really extra HQ compared to anything else I saw - mainly when it comes to rounded parts, like dishes etc., great :blush::thumbup: - I would really like to use them as I am making new script that would actually replace all LowRes "curved" meshes/bricks of original LDD in BlueRender (SunFlow script) with your HQ ones (being almost there! First idea was completely replace LDD bricks with your ones but then I realized two other things which prevented me from doing it: 1. you did not make all bricks yet, 2. there is not any known option how to translate LDD flexes to LDRAW ones, therefore I decided to go with replacing only those rounded parts) - but this uncertainity about placing your files make things really hard to "get going", if you understand me. :sceptic:

Waiting for your soon answer, Darats! :wink:

ar folder stands for Anton Raves library which was an old alternative to povray. Just ignore it.

Then you can do whatever you want with the folder as long as you declare them in Povray.

What I suggest it to copy all my lg_xxxx.inc file into your lg folder (where the other lg_xxxx.inc files are), and to copy the xxxx.inc files into another folder (eg "STL Parts") and then declare it in PovRay.

To declare a folder into PovRay:

Edit the "povray.ini" file to add the folders you want at the very end of the file.

This is what I have a the end of my povray.ini folder:

Library_Path="D:\Lego"

Library_Path="D:\Lego\lgeo"

Library_Path="D:\Lego\lgeo\lg"

Library_Path="D:\Lego\lgeo\STL Parts"

If you still get trouble, feel free to ask.

Then:

1. you did not make all bricks yet

I'm reworking every part one by one by hand, so I can get the quality as high as I want but it's a very long job, I'm only focussing on parts that are not in the current LGEO library or that looks bad in that one. You can make requests but I cannot give any delay.

See, many of us can be really not aware of LDRAW exact structure so it'd be much more helpful if this part (sentence) was written/described in more detail than that...

As my library is currently a beta version and it aiming at being part of the official ldraw AIOI, I don't want to spend too much time explaining things. When it will be ready, it will be integrated to the ldraw package and no more manipulations will be needed.

One more thing: you seem to want to make a script for bluerender. So, you shouldn't need any of the povray stuff but only the library files. So, I don't understand why this folder issue gives you a problem.

You will also see that my parts are made for povray, so you might get trouble when there will be patterns or studs in the parts because of the way I'm creating them using csg operations. You may have to learn a bit the povray code format, but it's quite easy and straight forward. If you make scripts, you should be able to deal with it.

Darats, your parts are really beautiful, I've already used them in my renders. Thanks a lot!

I have a small addition, if you would like to add this part to your library: 3069bp01: Tile 1 x 2 with Letter Pattern

I did not find it for lgeo, so I modified one of your patterned parts.

Part link

Rendered image of part

I've made the part. It will be in next update, maybe this month.

Thanks. I jut found out something weird: the lgeo parts 3298p98, 3298p53 and similar look like this:

3298pxx.jpg

In my lg_3298 it says:

#declare lg_angle1=65.32484819;
#declare lg_angle2=90-lg_angle1;

I had to modify the rotation angle in your patterned parts to lg_angle2=24.67 (and a little translation) for the pattern to fix them.

Which would suggest that you use a different slope angle for the 3298 brick: 26.56505 (seen in your parts). Might there be any part update I have missed or you did not include (for lg_3298)?

Posted

Mmh, I need to check my files but maybe yes. You or I should have a different slope part. I know Owen did some fixes on slope parts, maybe I get his update, or you. I'll let you know. Thanks for pointing it out.

You were right, I missed the update from Owen. For others: you can download it here:

In his part the angle is changed to what you use.

This library is not really compatible with Owen's. Darats' and Owen's "lg_defs.inc" are not in sync, and there's a good chance your model will not render in POV-Ray. Note that the AIOI includes Owen's changes by default, so we're SOL for the time being.

Posted

As I said in the forst post:

While waiting for a better solution, you will need to add :

#declare L3LDrawToLgeo = transform { matrix <0,-LG_BRICK_WIDTH/20,0, 0,0,-LG_BRICK_HEIGHT/24, -LG_BRICK_WIDTH/20,0,0, 0,0,4*LG_BRICK_HEIGHT/24> }

#declare L3LgeoToLDraw = transform { matrix <0,0,-20/LG_BRICK_WIDTH, -20/LG_BRICK_WIDTH,0,0, 0,-24/LG_BRICK_HEIGHT,0, 0,0,0> }

at the end of your lg_defs.inc file (just above the very last "}") or use my own lg_defs.inc provided in the package (but it might conflict with Owen's one on some parts).

As long as you don't overwrite Owen lg_defs.inc and only add those statements, you should be fine.

Posted

You might want to explain that in the first post. To me it seemed you were recommending people *should* overwrite Owen's file with yours. But this will likely cause weird errors without obvious (to the end user) causes.
