Mencot Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 Keliim looks at Terry but then turns back to the spider but seems to speak beyond the spider "Who is thee and what is thee intentions here?" Quote
Asphalt Posted June 15, 2015 Author Posted June 15, 2015 Do as you were told human. Continue your journey and Claim the final key. When you have completed your task I will provide an escort for you. Once you come to me, I will answer your questions. Your end of your journey and my freedom are close at hand. Stop dallying and move forward. Quote
Mencot Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 "Alright then, one question. Do thee know in what room the final key is?" Quote
Asphalt Posted June 15, 2015 Author Posted June 15, 2015 The Spider grumbles, this is why I returned the first time, always the questions. Very well. My weblings tell me that the final key lies through the door to the south from this chamber. Quote
Mencot Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 (edited) "We thank thee mysterious voice" and Keliim walks towards the south door and opens it. Edited June 15, 2015 by Mencot Quote
Asphalt Posted June 15, 2015 Author Posted June 15, 2015 Your escort will find you, when you have obtained the final key. Do not keep me waiting. With those final words the spider turns and climbs up into the shadows of the ceiling. The most terrifying part of this encounter is that when it stops moving, you can't tell where it is any longer. Keliim moves to the southern door and pushes it open. He is once again greater by a burst of heat. No longer the heat of the desert, but the heat of a burning forge. In the far corner of the room stands the final key. But how will the party obtain it? A moat of glowing magma separates the Cadre from their Goal. The Ruby Key staff. Quote
Mencot Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 "Fire. This element is something I, we, my tribe know and respect.. the force of the will of life." Keliim goes and stands straight in the middle of the room but not too close to the glowing magma, he closes his eyes and lifts his head up and puts out his arms to the sides. He seems like to absorb some of the heat to himself. Then he turns back to the others. "Alright, what doth we doth, we ne'd to put that? Quote
Scubacarrot Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 "Nothing a bit of magic can't solve. Give me the opal, if you'd please." If Calamity gets the Opal she uses her spellcasting ability to cool the fire. Quote
Asphalt Posted June 16, 2015 Author Posted June 16, 2015 Qm note: need a post from the current owner of the opal, before I can allow an action. Quote

"Good thinking lassy, I say thou both mages use the ice elementalmagic. One uses the Opal gem and the other uses the Opal Keystaff. But be careful for that magmastream, it will burn thee if gettin too close!" Quote
Endgame Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 "Are we quite sure that the ice won't simply get immediately melted by the magma on touch? I hear agma's pretty hot. One tocuh and you don't even burn, you just... e-vap-o-rate. I think that's what it's called. I was gonna suggest blocking off the hole it's flowing from, but hey, if this works..." Terry points the Opal Keystaff at the mass of magma and tries casting an ice spell from it. Quote

Terry points the Opal Keystaff at the mass of magma and tries casting an ice spell from it. Keliim looks at Terry and thinks about his suggestion and says, "Hey, wait up one second. That is a great idea or atleast a better idea, magma is hot and it will harm thou pretty much if gettin too close. Try aiming for that instead Too bad we don´t have anything fireproof, we should maybe had fought the bore beetles and... Hmm thou mages don´t know any good fireprotecting spells, do thy?" Asphalt Posted June 16, 2015 Author Posted June 16, 2015 Terry adjusts his aim to the hole where the magma is pouring out. Attacking the molten earth with an Ice based Melee weapon does not seem to have any effect. Terry attempts to touch the head of the Portal Key to the magma flow, but the heat is simply too intense. The heat pours into the young man, forcing him to back away. Quote

OoC: The staffs are only meleeweapons, they cant cast and shoot the elementalmagic? "Nay, hmm that seem to go as predicted. Maybe using the gem is more lucky, Rethinal can thou give the gem to Terry or Calamity so they can try to cast a icespel?" Quote
Asphalt Posted June 16, 2015 Author Posted June 16, 2015 QM NOTE: They are Elemental damage staves. To the best of my understanding a mage has to have an Un-merged gem in their possession to cast a spell. So the opal could be used by Terry or Calamity to go all Elsa on the magma, but the staff can only be used to make elementally imbued physical attacks. Quote

Scubacarrot Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 Calamity rolls her eyes at the gents' fumbling with the gem. "I've attended ritual summonings that took less time than this." Quote

Endgame Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 I cast an ice spell using the opal, aimed at the opening where the magma was pouring out. Quote
Asphalt Posted June 17, 2015 Author Posted June 17, 2015 Terry shoots a cone of frost at the magma where it seems to flow from the wall. It cools, darkens, and then erupts anew. It will take more than a single blast to cool the fiery heart of this chamber. Terry has expended is only point of ether (he was at 1/9 after the last battle) it will take a total of 7 more ether to freeze the magma core. Total ether expenditure 1/8 Quote
Endgame Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 I gulp down my Grand Tonic. "Whooo...! Never felt this much ether in me before... Heck, let's see what I can do with it." Terry expends 7 ether to hopefully freeze the magma core in a huge burst of ice. Quote
Asphalt Posted June 18, 2015 Author Posted June 18, 2015 Terry's eyes glow with an internal light as he consumes the tonic, his ether reserves reaching their maximum capacity. As he pours that power into the Opal a crusting of hoar frost begins to grown on the edges of his hood, his sleeves and the trim of his tunic It continues to spread outward making the young man appear to be sprouting long crystalline silver hair. as the power builds the frost begins to creep forward across the floor towards the magma flows. It probes tentatively at the molten stone. At first it melts away before it can get close, the heat from the molten stone is simply too much, but as the mage pours more and more power into the stone the frost retracts and coalesces. It contracts in on itself and begins to form a shape. It first takes on an oblong egg shape, then 4 thick shafts push it up off of the floor. A second bulge pushes out from the front of the egg. It is hard to tell at first, but then the intent of the ice becomes clear. Terry has drawn on his past to form a champion, His ice magic has taken on the form of an enormous Boar made of ice and frost, its tusks nearly scraping the ceiling of the chamber as it raises its head in a silent roar. The construct turns its head back towards Terry and bows, before it rushes headlong into the magma. When the avatar of cold meets the magmas there is an explosion of water and steam, which quickly condenses into a thick fog. When the fog clears you can see that terry has fallen to his knees exhausted from the effort, and that the magma flow has been not only cooled, but completely shattered. Shards of glistening obsidian lay scattered over the floor, and the Ruby Key stands in its socket waiting to be claimed. There is little to be found of the magma flow, save for a single lump of stone, embedded in the far wall, pulsing with a brown light. Terry kneels there in the center of the floor, feeling wiser and more powerful. Terry Gains a level. The party may now claim the fifth and final staff, the Ruby Portal Key. The room is now cool, and the fog has faded, what does the party do? Quote
Scubacarrot Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 (edited) Calamity smirks at the flashy display, and grabs the last Key. "Nice one, Terry. Next time I do stuff involving Mephisto's realm, I'll be sure to bring you along, it'll be great. And that makes five out of five keys. With Aristune and the keys, I think that we should figure out exactly what happened here. Let's head south." Edited June 18, 2015 by Scubacarrot Quote
