Fenom Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 (edited) Anyone have ideas for a better Mon Mothma? Lately I've been building up a Rebel army and the old one from 2009 (http://www.toypro.co...om/7344-src.jpg) is just not doing it for me. Ok, let's see;Hair alternatives: http://alpha.brickli...age?P=18858pb01 painted brown, if you don't mind customizing, http://www.bricklink...8&itemID=106613, http://www.bricklink...0&itemID=124437, http://www.bricklink...20&itemID=79373 Face alternatives: http://alpha.brickli...e?P=3626cpb0936 The rest should be fine as is. Hope this helps Edit: Links are being weird, the other head suggestions are Lois Lane's from the MoS sets and Galadriel from LotR Edited March 22, 2016 by Fenom Quote
wesker Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 Narcissa Malfoy's (from the Harry Potter sets) head is anothor good alternative for the face. I don't think I'd worry changing Mon Mothma's hairpiece though. The one she has now is good enough. Quote
Fenom Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 I'll probably post an updated Mothma after a few BL orders come through, so I guess we'll see Quote
Junior Shark Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 Hole cannoli! I've never even seen that Narcissa Malfoy hairpiece! It's perfect for an Ysanne Isard minifigure! http://vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/starwars/images/1/15/Isard.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20110127014103 Quote

Richpepperell Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 FirstlY, has anyone tried the Capaldi Dr Who head and hair on the Tarkin torso - seems like it would be good but don't want to splash out on the dimensions pack if anyone's tried it IRL and thinks otherwise. Secondly, the torso and skirt from the upcoming CMF Maleficent looks to have potential for making one of Palapatine's old cronies from rotj. Also, maybe the Donald Duck arms could be added to the Bespin Guard from The UCS Slave 1? Quote
Raskolnikov Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 (edited) has anyone tried the Capaldi Dr Who head and hair on the Tarkin torso - seems like it would be good but don't want to splash out on the dimensions pack if anyone's tried it IRL and thinks otherwise. There's a picture of one earlier in the thread with an Admiral Piett torso. But there's a new Tarkin head and that hairpiece in the Vader TIE/A-wing set that's coming out. It also will have a new uniform, but in dark tan. I would wait for that or for an eventual dark bluish gray version (here's hoping). I bought a Capaldi Dr. Who on bricklink and was underwhelmed with the results. The Capaldi minifig head does not have any visible cheekbones, which makes it a poor Tarkin head. The Capaldi hair isn't perfect, either, but at least it's a big step up from the old, "ordinary Lego man" hairpiece. I tried a few other heads, but nothing looked right to me. The best older male faces with cheekbones all have brown eyebrows, which look weird. As for gray eyebrow heads, Gandalf looks too nice and his eyebrows are too bushy, and the Magneto face has a gigantic mouth. Also, the whole endeavor isn't really worth it because there is no decent torso to put the head on. The old dark bluish gray Tarkin uniform looks pretty bad compared to more modern Imperial officer prints. The printing of the rank badges and details on newer minifigures looks much sharper and makes him look shabby when he stands next to them. Piett's torso is not strictly accurate, but it has the newer printing and looks decent. That's like a $35 torso, though, which is pretty pricey for an imperfect substitution. So, overall, I recommend just waiting for a new Tarkin. Right now, I use my old Tarkin torso w/ a different head as a local Imperial governor of a system or something, which explains the slightly shabbier uniform -- just can't bring myself to treat it as a true Tarkin. Edit: Also, I just looked Fenom's suggestion of Sabine's hair piece, painted brown, for Mon Mothma, and that looks absolutely perfect. I really hope we see a reddish brown version of that piece soon. Forresto Posted April 29, 2016 Posted April 29, 2016 So i'm not sure if this counts as updating or just a purist mod. I used the Clone commando battle pack kama to give Darth Vader his skirt. I personally think it adds a lot to the already amazing figure. Quote

HawkLord Posted April 29, 2016 Posted April 29, 2016 Forresto - great modification! I think the kama does something to make Vader look bigger. Pretty cool idea, I like it. Quote
Raskolnikov Posted April 29, 2016 Posted April 29, 2016 Speaking of kama cloths, I added one to General Hux and really liked the results. I wasn't a huge fan of how they tried to do his overcoat with printing, but that fixed it, I think. Quote
Sucram Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 Has anyone tried the new Toryn farr legs on Princess Leia from ep 4? Quote
Junior Shark Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 Has anyone tried the new Toryn farr legs on Princess Leia from ep 4? I'd imagine that not many people have that set and I certainly don't, but off the top of my head I don't think it would work. Farr's legs are meant to represent uniform pants, and in ANH Leia is wearing a dress. IMO, her current plain white legs are right on the money. Quote

Because Farr's leg would be a weird combo with ANH Leia. However, I'm praying Farr's legs will be available on B&P some day, so I can use them for Hoth Leia and my snowtroopers. For those interested in the new Hoth Luke: you can already buy his exclusive new torso on B&P for €0,70. Quote

Fenom Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 How long did that take? The whole process probably took about an hour. I used a combination of rubbing alcohol and an eraser. Quote
Forresto Posted May 8, 2016 Posted May 8, 2016 With the upcoming all female ghost buster ecto-1/2 set we're going to finally get double molded dark tan pants with black boots. Now the rebel imperial officers can have boots! Unfortunately for us SW fans they have printing on them as well so we'll have to use eraser or rubbing alcohol so if your a purist no luck there. I did that without second guessing myself for Thrawn with white pants so i'm excited! Quote
DarthHank Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 (edited) Has anyone tried this part with the old Endor Leia, or with General Lando? It's not the same shade of blue, but it has boots. Also, has anyone tried Yularen with black legs and white hips? That seems like the most screen-accurate solution, but I suspect it'll look unpalatable in reality. I may have to cave and remove the mad scientist printing and use those, but my inner purist is fighting (although my other side defends it; after all, I've accidentally scraped printing on minifigures, but I keep them in my collection, so what makes intentional removal worse?). I've decided to update the legs on all my figs that have unprinted legs; but I won't waste time/money doing it for ones that already have printed ones. By the way, has anyone found a better head for an Admiral Ozzel than this one? In the Empire Strikes Out he looks like this, but I can't tell if that piece exists in real life. Edited May 9, 2016 by DarthHank Quote
Forresto Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 (edited) I use this head for Ozzel as the expression fits him much better I think. The mustache is a bit bushy, plus mine has a mark on it , but it's effective I think. Edited May 9, 2016 by Forresto Quote
Junior Shark Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 Yeah, Ozzel's Empire Strikes Out face isn't a real piece. I prefer Forresto's solution over the tried-and-true Nazi mechanic. Quote
Robianco Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 (edited) I used J Jonah's head. I know it's a grey 'tache over a brown one but I just preferred it. Edited May 9, 2016 by Robianco Quote
Darth Caedus Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 I used J Jonah's head. I know it's a grey 'tache over a brown one but I just preferred it. That's a great Imperial officer head. Currently I haven't bothered making any of my officers specific imperials, just swapped in heads that look good to diversify. One head I found that looked interesting was the Karkaroff head from the Goblet of Fire kits, makes for a rather EU-looking angry Imperial. Quote
DarthHank Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 Hmm. That J Jonah head would be good for a Pellaeon. And what do you guys think of the new Tarkin head and hair from TIE Advanced/A-wing? Is that the best option for upgrading him? Quote
