alohamitsu Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 -I am sick of (in order of most annoying to least annoying) Star Wars, The Lord Of The Rings and Chima themes. -I think Castle from 2013 and Hero Factory were just plain awful and boring. -Mixels remind me too much of MegaBlocks, therefore I have no interest in them whatsoever. -I am not particularly fond of the new Pirates theme, its almost as dull as the Castle theme was from 2013. -Am I the only one bothered about how they COMPLETELY disregard Lego Fusion now? Like, no sets being released for holidays or even any type of add ons whatsoever (I mean the only good one was the Friends and town ones) -Lego City is just nothing but different types of mini figures in law enforcement, can we do something different for a change?
Robianco Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 Almost every MOC having a Cuusoo / Lego Ideas link. Oh... and that build you've submitted of an already existing Lego item may be pretty but it's lazy. It's lazy because it's not a particularly imaginative idea if Lego have already made one albeit at a different scale. That's why it's called Ideas. ...and stop whining about the 10,000 piece submission not being passed. It was never going to pass. Look at the Cuusoo / Ideas business model before wondering why a set that would cost £500-£1000 isn't approved on a theme that releases sets that are £30-£50. (although there have been a couple of sets that have also heralded surprisingly similar large sets in a theme from long ago in a galaxy far away so they're not totally without merit)
droomangroup Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 Almost every MOC having a Cuusoo / Lego Ideas link. so much yes!
MAB Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 (edited) LDD is not really lego. Almost every MOC having a Cuusoo / Lego Ideas link. That may well be popular! I'd like to go further and ban all ideas links. Edited May 7, 2015 by MAB
just2good Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 -Am I the only one bothered about how they COMPLETELY disregard Lego Fusion now? Like, no sets being released for holidays or even any type of add ons whatsoever (I mean the only good one was the Friends and town ones) Maybe it's an unpopular opinion, but I think LEGO Fusion is the worst theme LEGO has done in years. Not only did it not leave much room for creativity, but the reading feature of the app worked so poorly. I had the Town Master one, and it's my least favorite LEGO set that I bought in years.
AFOLguy1970 Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 Some more: I actually do not mind the car in Palace Cinema In Lego Ideas, people who either, (a) submit something that beautiful, large, and really meant to be an exhibition piece. As much as we would all love to have a 100,000 piece Palace of Versailles, it is not happening for most of us, and (b) those who submit something dull, small, and striking similar to the pick-a-model, in other words, it looks like the designer is in first grade. Now I have to sift through all of that to find the viable projects hidden in the pile I still cannot stand the Rebels stormtrooper and lament the fact that there is no easy way to get the "real" one I think Lego is becoming more AFOL unfriendly. They insist on having play features in some of the big sets (Yes, DO, I am looking at you), are making it much more difficult and expensive to buy bricks individually, ala. Pick-a-model cannibalizing bin space (see other thread), and the ridiculous online PAB prices I am getting tired of seeing some Bricklink sellers trying to gather as much as they can of a particular type/color part in order to corner the market and charge an extortionist price to buy it. As someone stated before, ultrarare minifigs at conventions is just plain mean. The whole Mr. Gold thing also left a bad taste in my mouth. It reminded me of Willy Wonka and those golden tickets. Some brat probably got their dad to buy the minifigs by the caseload until they found one. And finally, I really wish a competitor could match (or exceed) the quality of Lego with compatible parts and give them some real competition. That might help with some of the high prices we are currently seeing.
shaggysanchez Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 I think it was mentioned but I will double down on the Lego Movie being a bad thing for longstanding lego fans. I will also add that although my kids and lets face it me as well are excited for the Lego Dimensions game it will do the same as the Lego Movie. As a dad of kids who have skylanders and disney infinity I have seen how bad the collectors come out of the woodwork for those figures and how they are released in limited quantities or locations to drive the marketplace and I fear that between thid and all of the new "fans" who are stockpiling lego as they heard about the resale on it this could get ugly. The movie has brought in so many new fans which is good for the bottom line and I loved some of the sets we got from it but I feel the prices have been going up while actual sales and deals have been going down. I don't find nearly the deals I used to find before the set came out and I feel that more and more people are buying for investment and less for enjoyment which helps drive price and limited stock. I also am not bothered by remakes of sets. There are not to many sets that I have missed but I feel bad for people that might have been to young to purchase an expensive set when they were out and now that they are older and can afford it the only way is spending 10 times the price.

I thought the old car matched the style of the set well; I have huge complaints about Ideas and get really annoyed when people suggest that it's a valid venue to just show off your MOCs (no, that's NOT what it's for). What's worse is when there's a baseplate with a figure standing on it (made in LDD, no less), and it's supposed to be some new "theme." And how do they get a single vote, let alone 20 or 30? Who is voting for these? I think it was mentioned but I will double down on the Lego Movie being a bad thing for longstanding lego fans. Is that because of a bump in popularity? I also am not bothered by remakes of sets. Amset-Rah Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 I'll echo the sentiment about Galaxy Squad. The Hive Crawler is one of the best sets I ever put together if for the crawling motion alone. I think Star Wars, as a theme, needs a bit more variety instead of just ships. As much as I loved Lego Movie, they kind of dropped the ball with a good half of the sets only being the 2-in-1 vehicles, which while they're cool, I would have loved some more movie-centric sets.
Bigger Fish Posted May 7, 2015 Author Posted May 7, 2015 I want X-Pod to come back with all the Play-Off fixings. LEGO World Builder 1 and 2 should be remade for the DS with an online level editor. I want a Throwbots or Roboriders reboot with CCBS. The hypothetical 7th master for the Toa in the new BIONICLE should be a dog like beast. LEGO should make a Smash Bros. type game using their own original IP from the past and present. The HERO Factory specials where well-animated pieces of garbage I've ever seen with some of the most nonsensical dialogue I've ever heard (This fire shield's great for absorbing fire! Anyone?) and I really hated Invasion From Below's ending, it ruined the only decent Hero Factory episode for me.
shaggysanchez Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 Is that because of a bump in popularity? Well I feel and of course it is just my opinion, that because of the popularity of the Lego Movie prices have gone up and deals and sales have become harder to come by. I also feel that the popularity has increased the number of people hoarding sets in hopes of making a profit.
Mr. President Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 I also have to question the logic of price increases in the past year. 2013 prices were higher than 'normal' and the first half of 2014 seemed to adjust to more moderate prices but after the summer started climbing again. There is no doubt that the profit motive is here and pushing prices higher. It is frustrating as many of the larger sets I want are inflated because I live in Canada. (199.99 US vs 229.99 CDN for the Ferris wheel) That price is high, and on that grounds I sympathize. But . . . at the same time, inflation is a real thing. It is possible for (at least some ) items to cost more than they would have in the past, but for this not to be because of pure profit seeking. Consider the example of video games, cf: http://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkain/2015/04/24/video-games-should-be-more-expensive/
Benylin Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 LDD is not really lego. I'm with you, no weight, gravity or bending and infinite pieces
BirdOPrey5 Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 I don't even know where to begin... 1) The sets are way over-priced for what they are. 2) I hate most licensed sets including Star Wars. 3) I hate stupid looking themes like Chima, Ninjaro, Bionicle, Friends.... The only real themes should be City, Space, Technic, Pirates, Castle, maybe a few others 4) The Lego Group seems full of themselves and the more I learn about their internal workings, the less I like them. They really seem like the Apple of toys and Apple is awful to its employees but it has them brainwashed to think otherwise 5) Lego Ideas should require some minimum quality to even get listed. 6) Lego Ideas should have an option where staff or some kind of review board can choose to accept a project without needing to wait for votes if the quality warrants it. 7) Modulars going in the wrong direction- too small and too much child/play centric. 8) Lego Discovery Centers don't allow adults without children thereby insinuating anyone without a kid who likes Legos is a child molester. 9) No bulk pick-a-brick purchases available online. They should have some sort of virtual cup by weight you can order as much as you can fit for a set price 10) VIP members ordering $75 or more online should get 2nd day express shipping free 11) Virtually all mini-figures should have yellow heads 12) Not being able to know which mini figure you are buying 13) Should monitor the secondary market and re-release sets whoses used prices would warrant it, like Green Grocer , Eiffel Tower, Taj Mahal,.. Probably more...
Bigger Fish Posted May 8, 2015 Author Posted May 8, 2015 LEGO should try something new with video games, the current formula's getting old.
Mott the Brick Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 (edited) Personally I think Lego has decreased in quality a bit. Just look at some of the things in the early 2000's compared to some now. I think they need to go back to using more of the original standard bricks and more creativity. Need to also bring back some of the old faces with less specific details. Also the new sets are overpriced. Edited May 8, 2015 by Mott the Brick

Agree with all of these... 8) Lego Discovery Centers don't allow adults without children thereby insinuating anyone without a kid who likes Legos is a child molester. Well... I find it annoying, but they're just covering their megablocks... and doesn't Merlin run those centers? I'm not even sure it's a LEGO Group decision. 1) The sets are way over-priced for what they are. I saved this for last, to go along with this: Personally I think Lego has decreased in quality a bit. Just look at some of the things in the early 2000's compared to some now. I think the need to go back to using more of the original standard bricks and more creativity. Need to also bring back some of the old faces with less specific details. Also the new sets are overpriced. Because they are part and parcel to the same problem - LEGO spends a ton of it's profits on streamlining and finding ways to do things cheaper... so they can make more profit. The problem is that they pulled themselves out of their "black hole" by realizing they're the premium product, and as such they can charge more for their brand. Competing with Mega Bloks was killing them, the prices they were charging for some sets didn't even cover the cost of the parts in those sets. So they ramped things up a bit, and (and I'm thankful for this), they didn't compromise quality to compete at the low end - instead, they raised prices in order to stay in business. Jump ahead 10 to 12 years or so later, however, some of their later cost cutting measures quite obviously resulted in a loss of quality... so now we're at the point they're charging more AND compromising quality. The only reason they get away with this is their popularity... people will not stop buying LEGO (neither will we), so they have no incentive to do anything that benefits the consumer as long as the consumer puts up with the nonsense.

alois Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 I think Lego bricks are clone bricks - since Lego ripped of Kiddicraft's Self Locking Bricks when they created their first plastic building bricks. I think the demise of real Lego started with the first grey castle sets in the eighties, which had large wall parts instead of buildable walls. I never wanted to have these. I don't think Lego is overpriced (I live in the Netherlands). I think most MOCs with a so called 'historic' theme have nothing to do with history, only with fantasy. I think collectable minifigures have nothing to do with Lego and the Lego building experience. I own only one of them, a gift from Lego. I don't think it's a problem to mix used and new Lego in MOCs. I don't think colour variations are a problem. They're part of the charm of Lego, showing that something is built out of a lot of small distinct pieces. BTW - a lot of posters are posting their own strong opinions about Lego, which aren't necessarily unpopular. That's not what this thread is about.
Mott the Brick Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 (edited) I also don't really like the new Bionicles. They look too much and overuse of that Hero Factory build. In my opinion they need to use more technic elements and builds over the current armoured robot look. The villagers need to be more like the Matoran in that they should have different masks and not look like clones of each other. The villains don't get my attention that much either although the idea of the little skull spiders is cool with me. This is just my opinion so sorry if I offended anyone with this as I know several people like this new Bionicles. I think the new Castle and Pirates look quite bland and the design aren't really attractive. Sorry again if anyone takes offense at this opinion. Im a brickmaster. Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 I guess one that I have would be that I actually don't mind flick fire misses when placed or used were it makes sense!
