Breakdown Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 Just got my 7745 from GB. Sorry about the mess in the background I had my US warehouse ship up north (and don't worry I didn't just empty the Lego on to the hard tile floor. Won an auction and here's how it's packaged. Brown postal wrapping paper around the 7745 box. Then each car is inside single layer layer bubble envelope (the ones with the tiny bubbles) All these things wouldn't conspire to be that bad except for all of the void areas in the box for the train the bounce around. The engine car with the weight of the 12V motor and the two weight blocks just disintegrated and wrecked the other cars. At the end of the day I can laugh this one off as none of the key pieces appear to be broken (haven't had the moment to really tear it down and investigate too much). I would be livid about the box and the abuse it took, but it was never mentioned at all during the auction and despite some tape marks it's in reasonably respectable-looking condition. It literally could just burst at the seems and emptied it's contents. Oh well. Happy to have my train, looks sharp!! Also very excited to have some new rubbers too!! A word of advise from someone who's slung packages at a sorting centre. If you put "Fragile" on the outside of the package, that just means throw it harder, it's got some weight to it. Bigger packages tip over on to smaller ones and smaller packages can get jammed on conveyors. Quote
Commander Wolf Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 I've found that most people have no idea how to pack something (or are too lazy to do it?). I have gotten laptops in USPS flat rate boxes with absolutely no padding whatsoever. It's a good thing most Lego is pretty much indestructible. Have fun putting it back together! Quote
Duq Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 At least you got brown paper around the box. I once bought a Technic 8880 on eBay and received it with masking tape all around the actual box which of course was destroyed as a result... Quote
dr_spock Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 Last time I ordered from Toys'R'Us, they slapped a shipping label on the 8294 box and shipped it like that. The box arrived beat up. I was surprised nothing leaked out. Quote
v6TransAM Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 Christmas before last Amazon sent me 7939 in a vacuum type bag and one whole end was almost flattened......................................... Was hoping they would send me a new one and tell me to keep it, but it was not to be lol Quote
Rail Co Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 Yeah I have a couple bad packing experiences recently. First one was he put the sealed 4533 box in a paper mailing bag (USPS Priority bag) and the box came dented thank goodness it still was sealed or I would have over payed at that point... Another one was I won an auction for a 4564 train set with extra track. He put each assembled train and train carriages etc. in a plastic bag (this was good) then filled a box up with packing peanuts (a whole trash bag full!!!). Then he taped the whole box in fragile tape (basically holding it together) then the top was just taped on if it broke my whole order would be gone. Some people just need to learn how to pack things decently... Good luck -RailCo Quote
detjensrobert Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 Maybe they need to use the "super-cardboard" tube that my replacement door parts came in (sorry, not train related. ). You could seriously drive a (real) truck over it without it being deformed. We needed to use a sawzall to cut it up. Quote
peterab Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 If your packing can't withstand someone else's 20kg parcel bouncing up and down on it in transit, then your packing isn't good enough. Quote
talos Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 The train looks like mine after it sailed off the table and landed on the floor! I hope no damage after you look it over. Quote
