Posted May 9, 20159 yr We had a little accident. Someone, who shall remain nameless, cranked up the speed on my 60051 High Speed Train, and it flew off the table and exploded on the floor, about 3 feet below.... It broke up into quite a few pieces. Well, the only real damage was a bogie plate that snapped off its pin. This was the one attached to the drive motor, I guess because it weighs more, it broke on impact. Is this repairable? Has it happened to anyone else? I had some spares and replaced it, and the train is no worse for wear. I just want to know if I should throw out the broken part or try to fix it. Would super glue or some other product work, or is it hopeless?
May 9, 20159 yr I am afraid that part is beyond repair. The members of my LUG would have to donate that part to the Lego "Junkyard" on our layout which is a collection of all the pieces that we have broken over the years.
May 9, 20159 yr You can try Lego Customer Service or Bricklink it. You could also drill a hole in the bogie plate and put in a machine screw if you do model railroading stuff.
May 10, 20159 yr You could drill out that part and use a 3/4 tech pin.....just make the hole the right size for the pin to click in tight, but not too tight. Good luck.
May 10, 20159 yr I would try some ABS plumbing glue first. Use a tooth pick to apply and set the pin back into place.
May 10, 20159 yr I've broken those 2-3 times, the pin takes a lot of force when the truck is the first thing to hit the floor. As noted by Dr_Spock, Lego customer service should be willing/able to send out a free replacement. PS, the box did say "high speed train" though... why shouldn't it go high speeds? No derailment is fun (well, aside from AlmightyArjen's fine work), but it is refreshing to find that after you've found all the pieces it usually goes back together fairly quickly, or in the worst cases like this, you only have one broken part. Try that in HO.
May 10, 20159 yr They start at about €0.30 on Bricklink. I'm all for repairing things rather than replacing but in this case...
May 10, 20159 yr One of those few things gaffa tape can't fix... but superglue should do it, I think!
May 10, 20159 yr Author Thanks for the repair ideas. I decided to order a replacement, I don't want to risk a repair that would re-break with use, possibly causing another incident on 'dead mans curve' ;-) Cheers.
May 10, 20159 yr I'm always with replacing things instead of repairing them, you did the right decision. Imo, but that's just me.
May 10, 20159 yr I always like the challenge of fixing things myself like the worn bearings in my washing machine. I think the more cursing the better the repair. Do what works for you. Edited May 10, 20159 yr by dr_spock
May 13, 20159 yr Krazy Glue Straighten it out and glue it in place then reinforce it with more glue from the bottom, problem solved and stronger than you started with.
May 13, 20159 yr I just broke the same thing. Be really careful because i never thought it would happen but you could even break off the small pin hole in the locomotives plate with this kind of accident - not simply a 30 cent piece alone. The pin hole remains but the circular piece encompassing the underside of the locomotive plate can crack in two - it's functional but looks awful. Edited May 13, 20159 yr by legobear
