Posted May 16, 20159 yr Hi had anyone built extra carriages for this set. And has it worked out expensive? I'd like 2 more and searched bricklink but complete carriage to buy is up on €130.
May 16, 20159 yr Everything is relatively cheap except for the windows. At more than €8 each, it makes a very expensive carriage. Using the standard square frame would be considerably cheaper but won't look nearly as good. Edited May 16, 20159 yr by pinioncorp

I think someone did that.
May 16, 20159 yr If you made all the cars using the same window frame style then things wouldn't look out of place. I think someone did that. Another option is to change the livery colors of the carriages but then again you need to make all the carriages the same. I know of someone who did White & DkGreen.
May 16, 20159 yr ...you need to make all the carriages the same. Says who? I'm pretty sure trains like the Orient Express used to have different coloured carriages (just can't find a reference image now). In the '80s German TEE trains had beige/blue for second class and beige/red for first class carriages. I've made a copy of the EN carriage with red windows and tan below and that happily runs along with the carriage from the set. Neuffen birds eye view by Duq, on Flickr And yes, I changed the roof a bit. Don't take things too seriously. All carriages exactly the same would just be boring. Build a train that you think looks good.
May 16, 20159 yr I actually prefer the look of mismatched passenger trains. They're much more exciting, especially when each coach has an interesting history.
May 17, 20159 yr I made a second carriage for my EN without the expensive windows, I made it as a sort of 'second class' carriage: Emerald Night Carriage by Tim, on Flickr Emerald Night Carriage by Tim, on Flickr Edited May 17, 20159 yr by timmyc1983

May 17, 20159 yr Author Have you tried the catalog on Bricklink? There's not that many 4x3 windows... The above are the best option and cheap.
May 17, 20159 yr I also prefer different looking carriage. One can be a restaurant wagon, another one a couchettes car, first and second class may have different color etc.
May 18, 20159 yr I am trying to collect the parts to make a couple of these cars...I am thinking of using dark purple, and light bley and tan.... stop laughing... :-)
May 19, 20159 yr I am trying to collect the parts to make a couple of these cars...I am thinking of using dark purple, and light bley and tan.... stop laughing... :-) Purple and bley like this combo?
May 19, 20159 yr Don't take things too seriously. All carriages exactly the same would just be boring. Build a train that you think looks good. Boring? I would say no...
May 19, 20159 yr Not only different colour scheme are possible. You can also change the build. e.g. instead of a carriage with 10 windows, build two with each 4 windows and a baggage carriage with only two windows. I did this and have now in summery an Emerals Night with six carriages (3 originals + 3 MOC). Unfortunately I don't have a picture made of them. But for building inspiration I found two links: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=522196
May 19, 20159 yr I have prolonged my cars with 8 studs as well as made a sleeping car. See my Flickr: https://www.flickr.c...03/15022704290/ Happy building Edited May 19, 20159 yr by baard
May 19, 20159 yr Purple and bley like this combo? Oh yes, that is close, but with tan doors at each end. Not sure yet about using a blue or dark gray base. It's all still in my head.
May 19, 20159 yr Well I sold my coach and with the proceeds bought four Enlighten First Class coaches which go surprisingly well with the Emerald Night locomotive. They are a cross between a Santa Fe observation car and a European Pullman car, except with dark green in lieu of brown. They are a bit on the tall side too. In the end I decided I wanted something better, so I saved the windows from them and made this: Bar Car, Parlour Car, Kitchen Car, Luggage Car
May 19, 20159 yr Purple and bley like this combo? LOL! I took that idea and color scheme and extended it considerably and turned it into... With two fixed axles and at this length it performed like a dog on standard Lego curves and points and so I added articulated dual bogies. Note: It's being reworked as a 7-wide at the moment Edited May 19, 20159 yr by eurotrash
May 19, 20159 yr OP has many options for the cars as demonstrated. Only limited by imagination and depth of wallet. LOL! Note: It's being reworked as a 7-wide at the moment LOL, great minds think alike. I bought the Harry Potter Knight Bus just for the train windows and the LEGO Store grand opening minifigure set.

I am particular fond of the 24 stud "shorty" baggage car at the head of the train. As you can see the doors on the baggage cars do open but with some difficulty. Edited May 22, 20159 yr by ecmo47
